View Full Version : Soccer shoes dilemma o_O
Sky Reloaded 02-02-2004, 11:22:AM I'm looking for a pair of soccer shoes, preferably Nike or Adidas, but I'm not sure which one to get. The problem is this: I plan to play indoors just as much as outdoors on fine, well cut grass. I was wondering if there was an indoor model that has good grip, and works as well on grass too? Where I live it is quite dry so the grass isn't THAT slippery, but I dont think a flat smooth bottom would be cool. Also I can only afford one pair, and I want to buy really good ones as I have been saving for quite a while and don't want to buy a cheap pair and an expensive pair, as I play indoor practice alot so it's equally as important.
Thanks! :crazyboy:
Get adidas for durability...
they have a turf shoes which can grip well on indoor and outdoor.
For weight, you get mercurial vapours the light boot ever, which is nike.
Sky Reloaded 02-02-2004, 12:43:PM Mmmmm...... mercurial vapours....... drool
Of course they are my preference, but I wonder if they do well indoors as well as on hard ground? Because I sometimes play streetball as well :p would be nice as I dont have to wear my soft leather boots again.
buzzer555 02-02-2004, 01:41:PM I have the indoor Mercurial Vapors and it's great to use indoors. I play indoor soccer a lot so it was essential. I've tried it outdoors and it also works fine. The grass you said is dry so you won't have any problems there.
Sky Reloaded 02-02-2004, 01:58:PM Cool, but strange they cost 1/3 of the ones on nikefootball.com. They are just as light right? BTW if I order online should I order my exact shoe size, or one size smaller for tight fit etc..
if you get smaller, it would be very tight i reckon.
;)
Nimreitz 02-02-2004, 02:22:PM Just buy the ol' run of the mill Adidas shoes. They never fall apart and last forever. If you think your shoes make you better in anyway at all, you're wrong. Just because you have Beckham's shoes doesn't mean you're going to bend the ball an inch.
Buy el cheapo (but quality) adidas shoes and spend the rest of your money on mind altering substances :D
If the indoor field you're playing on isn't field turf (indoor turf made for spikes), they you're going to need two shoes. One pair with spikes, another without. Just go for the cheap durable adidas in both cases, you can probably get both pairs for the same price as one pair of Preds or Mercs.

Yes I can understand that. My theory is, shoes won't make you play better, but crappy shoes can make you play worse . I need something comfortable and most importantly, lightweight + shock resistant, so I can run and jump around all day without the soles of my feet getting sore (not from fatigue but rather from the impact shock). The better quality of the shoes, the more comfortable you feel and it helps you reach your potential rather than hampering it.
Anyways, I have about a month or so to decide, because a team approached me last week. Most practices will probably be played on light, dry turf, or indoors on hardground. And I also play alot of streetball myself, and freestyle fooling around. So I'm very reluctant in buying a pair of $160 shoes with huge cleats fit for professional matches. I'll keep an eye on Adidas though, who knows maybe they feel just as great/light as the Vapors. Thanks.
Zlatan 02-02-2004, 07:05:PM Get the Nike Mercurial Vapors(if you have the money ;) ) They look very sweet and they are very light...
Pferd 03-02-2004, 02:42:AM very light, they feel like you're wearing nothing at all... on the other hand, it means you feel like your playing football without boots...
id suggest getting the copa mundials turfs, which work both indoor and outdoor...
or really buy 2 pairs of shoes, one for indoor and one for outdoor, or actually i have both soft grounds and turfs.. .
oh i saw you wanted only one pair. then get a pair of copa mundial turfs. they are really good and do just as well on grass as on astroturf.
If you want a solid boot for quite cheap ($59) then get this Adidas one. It's very comfortable and you can wear it on grass or turf.

There is also this shoe, which is good as well but costs a bit more:

By the way, this is a hot boot:

What? They have some of the best deals out there! Check out the sales section and just look at the Lotto boots they have on sale. They are going for $70 when they are actually being still sold for $180 at other sites.

oh yeah, two more things, the objective is to get as little material between the foot and the ball, to maximise the feel of contact, not ultra thick protective boots! if the latter's the case, i would hv worn my police boots to footie!! :crazyboy:
that is the ideal situation... however if u are in a league which has strong contact, then a shoe like that is not the shoe for you because you will get stamped upon... i believe that EXCELLENT shoes do not help, but BAD shoes DO bring down your hussle/momentum/consistency...
get 2 shoes, indoor - Nike Total 90 II from www.eastbay.com (2 of the colors are 25$)... outdoor - world cups or something
