how do "first options" work?

For the duration of the period you agreed on the accepting team may not accept offers from other teams than yours. If you decide to buy the player, you may do so for the future amount you agreed on. When the time on the option runs out, the other team may sell the player to any other team, and will keep the fee you paid for the option. :)

oh...ok. thanks (Y)

I thought it was something completely different. :p But i had "first option" on Veron for a year and he ended up going to some other club...and the 1 year period wasnt over.

Ah, slight modification to my initial reply: The club will first offer the player to you, and if you decline, may talk about transfers to other clubs. Apparently you declined that offer(?). If not, we got a bug.

So that's like buying first dibs on the player.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

For a couple of Million. Its not really worth it unless you get him at a cut price (H)

I often use them. I can remember when I was PSV on CM4 I used them a lot. I think it's very usefull because you can let that player become better at his current club, while you are (almost) sure that you can buy him in the future.

They are very useful. I got a first option on Tevez and then everytime someone offered to buy him I would enact my first option only to cancel it later before he was actually transferred to me. That way I could keep Tevez at his club for a year and half until he developed further.

At the same time, Tevez got really pissed at having his transfer constantly cancelled so I got him eventually for a much lower price than the first option I agreed upon with the club.

I use the first option to screw over teams and unsettle their players until I get them cheaper.

All it said was "Chelsea have accpeted you first option proposal"...but nothing happened after that, and Veron was sold somewhere else.

Thats not how it works
If u have an agreed price involved in the first option then u have to pay attention to the other team's bidding.

For example if Chelsea bid for Veron and then u come in and enact ur first option, they have to accept ur offer.

So u have to pay attention to if any clubs bid on the player u have a first option on.

I don't know how it works if their is no agreed price, I assume u should be offered a chance to match any offer by another team.

My own example, I had a first option on Tevez. Whenever someone bidded for Tevez I would just enact my first option and they would accept my offer. Then once the contract was agreed upon and the other interested teams had their offers declined I cancelled the transfer. Using this tactic I had Tevez play another year at Boca before I completed the transfer.

If u know what ur doing, first options are good.
