I've emailed lior, or whoever it is i'm supposed to email twice in the last week and a half, and i still have not gotten an explanation as to why i am being blocked from SG.

Only my IP is blocked, so i can use the forums from work. I don't understand why i'm blocked from home, though.

its coz you IP is an exact match with one of our banned members.

So either both of you are the same person or both use the same machine.

Its a Rutgers.edu IP address. So there is nothing we can do.

Since i severely doubt i actually did anything to deserve a ban, i'm going to assume it's because someone else at Rutgers was banned. Funny thing is, i'm at work now...AT RUTGERS. So someone was banned at a rutgers.edu address, yet i'm talking to you right now from a rutgers.edu address. Right across the street from my dorm, no less.

I guess if nothing can be done about it, then i simply can't be bothered to continue reading these forums.

If i did something to merit a ban, it would be nice if someone told me what it was. Otherwise, see you after i graduate.

EDIT: by the way, users at the dorms change IP addresses every so often. We are re-allocated as we move to different rooms. So perhaps you banned whomever it was that lived in this room before i did. You can clearly see from my post count and and previous posts that i have been on these forums for a fair length of time. Whomever you banned probably uses a different IP now...you might have even banned them again since. I don't really care...but i'd like to be able to use the forums. If i can't, then i won't...it's not a significant part of my life.

I can use the forums fine here at work, but i only work here two nights a week.

IP bans are tricky. My school was IP banned from SG after that "Gookinator" assualt. When the new year came I could access SG from school, so my school must have changed IP?

Yeah, it's strange. The strangest part is that it claims to be an IP ban for my school, yet i only access this site from two locations:

1) My dorm, which i just moved into (where i'm blocked)

2) My job, which is at my college's library (where i'm not blocked)


I mean, it must be obvious to everyone that i do not merit a ban. If i did something wrong to make myself banned, i wouldn't be able to post right now would i?

Anyway, this is really stupid. Whomever you banned is somewhere else right now...and i'm taking the ban on his/her behalf. To whomever handles the bans...OPEN YOUR EYES! You banned an IP that renders me unable to view the forums (undeservingly, in case you're missing the point), yet i can still post from the same domain. Don't you think whomever you banned can do the same thing? This ban has proven to be extremely pointless, so it should clearly be lifted. If there is any logical reason whatever that the ban should remain intact, i'd sure like to hear it, because i can't think of anything.

By the way, my roommate, who is by no means a football fan, and doesn't even have an account here at SG, is also banned. Quite fair, eh?

I have this exact problem suddenly occuring too.

I'm obviously not banned because I'm posting this reply, nor have I done anything to deserve a ban. So obviously someone with a similar IP has most likely been banned as well.

I take it there's a way to fix this problem. I'm just curious if an identical IP was banned or if just a range was banned. Say something like 12.345.678.xxx was banned and my IP has fallen into the range making me banned. I'm on a static IP as well so waiting for an IP change isn't an option.:(

This problem is a real pain in the ass too! :crazyboy: SG works after I refresh the page about 20+ times.

Hopefully IceBlu, or another mod can solve the problem. Thanks to whoever does fix the problem ahead of time.:)

FInally after something like a year of being banned, the webmaster of SG has discovered the error.

SG wanted to ban someone at Rutgers about a year ago, but was not aware of the firewall here, and banned the user's WAN address instead of their IP address, meaning that everyone who lived in the dorms was banned.

The webmaster finally lifted the ban, and i can once again access the site!
