ELECTRONIC ARTS SIGNS EXCLUSIVE LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH UEFA

EA SPORTS to produce official licensed videogame for UEFA EURO 2004TM

Chertsey, UK. – February 6th, 2004 – Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced today they have signed an agreement for EA to develop, publish and distribute the official videogame of UEFA EURO 2004TM under the EA SPORTS brand which will be an official interactive entertainment experience of the EURO 2004TM tournament. The EA SPORTS UEFA EURO 2004TM officially licensed game will be developed and published by EA this summer to coincide with the finals of the UEFA EURO 2004TM tournament in Portugal.

"We are excited to extend UEFA's mission of promoting European football at every level of the game through our EA SPORTS simulation of the EURO 2004TM final tournament event," said Jan Bolz, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for EA Europe. "Combining EA's global expertise in football videogames with UEFA's passionate European fan base will give football fans endless opportunity to relive the excitement and drama of EURO 2004."

In EURO 2004TM mode players can play as any of the 51 European nations. Players can arrange and play friendly matches against other nations or play through the tournament going from qualifying, to playoffs and into the finals. In addition to tracking injuries and suspensions, a new dynamic morale system will track players' morale, which will fluctuate based on individual and team performances and affect player abilities on the field.

The official UEFA EURO 2004TM videogame is currently under development at EA's Canadian studio, the company's largest, which is world-renowned for creating critically-acclaimed and best selling sports games. The officially licensed EURO 2004TM videogame is scheduled for release to coincide with the EURO 2004TM finals in Portugal this summer.

i couldn't found any different between EURO2004 and FIFA2004 but as long as they improve the gameplay...this should be very good. and also ask them please improve the interface. please no more magnetic scroll bar and unable to see starting eleven..

can we request EA to have agreement with NIKE or ADIDAS? cause i think most of us already get bored of the EA boots. is be great if we can see some Predator Mania, Total 90 II, Mercury Vapour and etc isn't it??

Hmmm, u will get a **** load of new portuguese stadiums, which will make a lot of ppl happy. Probably with some videos like WC02 so it might not be too bad... but u gotta think about the time frame they are working in, what good will come from this? Probably a preview of fifa2005 if it eventuates that will cost a bit of money. None the less, im up for a change.

So we are looking at about 6 months from now are we? When do the euro finals start? WC02 came out about 3 months before the finals.

Will it have weather this time?? and another annoying thing they need to fix is make the referee blow for offsides earlier and don't wait until 10 seconds after you ran all the way down for the ball, thats so annoying.

yeah, that's right, ver realistic. in the screenshot where you see a portugal player with number 10, he looks like Figo, but Figo is number 7, and that's not Rui Costa!

holy sh!t the graphics are stuning... but so was WC 2002... the gameplay most likely will rival 2004.. like 2002 and WC.

Remember that it's only from alpha stage.. several things will
change. As far as i listened, they're putting their focus on

i hope they reprogram the gameplay, game speed, advantage rules, weather (please~!!!), sub cinematic, keeper (also please~~!!), brightness, if the game just like FIFA2004, its going to be very very disappointed. this shouldn't call EURO2004 anymore, should be FIFA2004 European International Team Edition

looking very impressive at the moment, but then again, they are only screenshots so i dont think the hopes should be raised too much as it is.

I guess the gameplay will be pretty much the same of FIFA 2004, with some minor "improvements" (if you can call it that) on the gameplay area, and a lot of improvements regarding the graphics.

I can see the ready made excuses already:

(a) Well, you can't expect the gameplay to have improved, they didn't have much time between FIFA 2004 and this title to improve it.
(b) After FIFA 2005 is again with crappy gameplay - well, they didn't have enough time to work on it after Euro 2004!

I'll bet anybody the gameplay is near identical and basically you'll be forking out another $40 for a single tournament.

Great faces but those bodies are dang awful. They still look like a cross between the Roswell alien and a third degree burns victim!

Well I like the new Hollandkit much more than the clownsuit that they were wearing and Holland always used to play with white shorts in the past and not with black.

In this case the license is property of UEFA. EA Sports pays to UEFA to recriate the Euro2004. So they could use all kits, players etc. All national FA sign before the competition a contract that gives his image rights to UEFA.

Yeah! The 'fake shot'. Only been available in Konami games since 1998! You go to shoot and then cancel it or push it wide instead of shooting to create more space. Really, all EA need to do is create an effective cancel button where you can pull out of any move right up until a shot or pass has been taken. Still that might be a bit too realistic for them to pull off. $10 says it's a screw up! Let's see if FIFA Euro 2004 can even match the mighty International Superstar Soccer '98 on the N64 and actually make it work!

- Game Modes

1 - New "Euro 2004" Mode:

- Choose any of the 51 national teams and play the EURO 2004.
- Multiplayer mode (up to 4 players).
- Configure your custom national team, selecting your players
from the best 40 players in every country.
- Try to classify for the final phase (road to euro2004, playoffs).
- Play friendship matches.
- New moral system (individual, team moral, etc.). Moral
affects on player skills.
- Injures, sanctions, detailed reports about rivals.

2 - New two-matches mode.

- This new mode allows you to face your rivals in a two-matches
qualifying round. You will play these matches in the stadium
of every country in the qualifying round (i.e. Spain-Portugal will
be played in Portugal and Spain, in 2 matches.).

- Official rules: Goals in away stadium counts double, if
global result is a draw.

3. New "Fantasy" mode.

- Now you'll be able to create a custom "dream team" and
play against any national team.
- You can choose any player from the 51 national teams avaliable.

4. New "Situation" mode.

- This mode will allow you to recreate a specific play situation.
You can personalize the team, results, game phase, time,
yellow/red cards, and then you can "enter" the game in that
situation and play it.

5. New "Tournament" mode.

- This new mode allows you to create custom tournaments.
- Multiplayer mode (up to 4 players).
- Choose any of the 3 tournament styles: mini-league, K.O.
tournament, and mini-league+KO)

it probably will, i mean, it's gonna have them all, isn't it?

i think not for two reasons. one is that kazakhstan didn't play in the qualifyings, other is that the game have 51 national teams and with Kazakhstan UEFA have now 52 filliated members. So i think Kazakhstan isn't in the game.
Since we can schedule pre-euro friendlies i think EA should put some teams from other continents like Brazil, USA, Argentina, Cameroon, etc. What do you think of this idea?

It's just amazing that for every FIFA game over the last 3-4 years people use the "it's alpha" excuse. Each time the game is screwed up - when will you learn that what you see is what you get? If you want to look at exactly what you're getting, you're paying $40 for a game basically that should have been included within FIFA 2004 or at least the ability to custom make your own Euro 2004 tournament.

My comment a few pages back about $hitting in a box, slapping a FIFA sticker on it and selling 5 million copies was supposed to be a joke but the irony is I could probably shift about half of that number for real. One tournament to play costs $40 with a few added features which won't make any difference to the gameplay except for the fake shot thing which should have been included about 6 or 7 years ago!

With EA making all the stadiums in Portugal, that means they should include at least one of them in FIFA 2005 like they did with Yokohama from WC 2002 to FIFA 2003.

UEFA have 52 members now. before euro qual. it have 51. Kazakhstan didn't participate in Euro2004 qualifying because they weren't UEFA members before the draw.

It's not an excuse. EA is developing the game yet, and that's
the "alpha" definition.

Maybe FIFA is not for you. I've played all the previous FIFAs
and i enjoyed it. If you don't, maybe you should try PES,

I undesrstand very well your position but i can't support each year the problem or evaluate of EA about FIFA.
Since 98 i buy fifa and support their problem, they tell us that fifa 2004 will be ok, fifa 2003 ok but fifa 2004 will be revolution etc etc but i'm not a children, i'm not rich , and today i don't accept their strategy.

Why the market of playstation is n° 1 for pes instead fifa, it's not the hasard.
If each time we said fifa good graphics, kits, stadiums etc, how do you want EA make a good gameplay.
They are superior at konami about graphics etc, why do we want still that each fifa. Since 2003 they must work in the gameplay one only time with a complete gameplay and for fifa 2005 or other work on kits, graphics etc.

When you see fifa 2002 complete and fifa 2003 complete too, and FIFA 2004 BUGGED, you don't understand something.
Don't forget, some of people are father, with wife, credits, house, cars, etc and they can't buy a game all month.

Or, another option, you can order another player without the

framerates. So, he spent 48+40€ and the game doesnt work.
FIFA worked perfectly since first day, without patches.

just thought that the new 3d card you bought as future investment, nowadays the game need high requirement, like Prince of Persia: Sand Of Time, even GeForce 4MX unable to play it. official minimum recommended display card is Radeon 9200. so just take your new card as future investment

i doesn't mean i dislike FIFA, i'm FIFA supporter too, just FIFA2004 compare with PES3, it make me real dissapointed. i rather play FIFA2003 than FIFA2004

All of those gameplay "features" are what should be in the most basic soccer game anyway. Look at what they're saying. Bascially they're saying you can pass high or low, volley from close up or from a distance, make feints, etc. Excuse me but can't you already do those things?!?!

off the ball controll was a great idea in 2004, they probably will have it in future versions, maybe its too early to tell. I'd hate to see them leave it out.

Hey people, stop complaining about the missing features that didn't make to Fifa 2004. They will for sure be fixed in Euro 2004. looking very optimistic indeed, those faces are unbelievable, and whats with the moaning american people? havent you heard of ebay or imports? i'm sure shops in america will import the game from europe! dont fret... shipping wont be through the roof either.

The faces look awesome. The bodies however look awful. The legs look so square and sharp edged with the worst flesh coloring I think I've ever seen in a computer game. The body shapes are like the Roswell alien!

Still, great faces or great gameplay is the choice you get and it looks like EA's already made their mind up where their energy will go once again.

I also want the fake dive back from before. Or maybe it only works at Avalade XXI stadium:p

you all speak optimistic about the game, like I did for every fifa game since 99, except the elder versions and world cup 2002.

so what do you expect from this. especially the word "fiasco" would burst into tears in comparison to the word that would explain the heading bug in fifa2003 (such a word hasn't been invented yet). I sincerely can't understand what are you expecting from this. another fifa game which will come with decades of gameplay patches just after a week.

2 things i hate bout this euro 2004..the ball and the boots totally sucks!!!!!!! hope ea at least put in a ball menu..and EA why can't they sign a deal with nike or adidas!
