Here is a post from Fox Sports. Is this for real or a gimmick to attract attention?
RIO DE JANEIRO — Vasco da Gama forward Romario scored four goals and his striking partner Edmundo one goal in a 6-0 win over Americano, but the pair refused to celebrate any of the goals together as their personal animosity remained.
The pair, two of the most gifted strikers in the world, have not spoken to each other since Romario joined the club in December and appear to be locked in a battle of egos, each one trying to prove he is better than the other.
Romario was the clear winner on Saturday as he claimed his first goals in the Carioca (Rio de Janeiro state) championship and moved within one of Edmundo, who is now the competition's top scorer.
Romario opened the scoring with a cheeky goal, sidefooting the ball under the opposing goalkeeper after leaving an Americano defender standing with a clever dribble.
His second came from a penalty, which he took despite chants from the crowd demanding that Edmundo be given the honour. Romario had missed a penalty last week, after seizing the ball and refusing to let Edmundo take it.
Romario completed his tally in the second half with an opportunist close range effort and a brilliant individual goal.
He also provided the pass from which Edmundo headed his only goal of the match while Paulo Miranda completed the scoring.
The goals could not break the ice between the pair, however, who celebrated all six separately.
Edmundo had been the undisputed star of the Vasco show for most of last year. He took the penalties, scored most of the goals and captained the team.
Then Romario, Brazil's 1994 World Cup hero, was signed from Flamengo to strengthen the side for FIFA's World Club championship.
The two former friends were not on speaking terms, having fallen out earlier in the year, and the rivalry between them increased when the captaincy was taken from Edmundo and given to Romario.
A livid Edmundo stormed out of the dressing room, refused to play and was suspended.
Last week, Edmundo disparagingly referred to Romario as "The Prince" and said he wanted to leave the club.
