View Full Version : Typical United
SeDaBa 21-02-2004, 06:06:PM I've got a lovely flowing attack. With Ruud scoring goals like he knows a big injury is coming up. But my back four (left>right) O'Shea, Silvestre, Ferdinand, G Neville with Keane infront seem to be quite happy to let the oppostiton attackers stand behind them and just ruin my championship hopes. It's still quite early in the season 10games or so. What should I do tactically to make the defense more like a wall than a gate??
intresting description i have to say, sometimes man marking can help, in ALL 4 -?-? formations i create i always have the s CB's man marking, and it seems to work. I feel having everyone in a zonal marking system is a like a free for all, i dont like it.
Dont play Offside trap.
TROD.
fender 21-02-2004, 09:08:PM Tweak around with the marking and tackling, you'll find a good combination in time.
PSVFOREVER 21-02-2004, 09:09:PM I always have zonal marking, but then again, I conceded over 60 goals last season(H)
man marking with ur 2 cbs works honestly, then have your DMC and RB LB zonal.
TROD.
I eat about 50 goal every season in the league but I score 100+. So.. it's not so bad.

yeah i dont like zonal marking either :S
rpvankasteren 22-02-2004, 05:57:AM Zonal marking is way better in a team that overclasses the opposing team. It really helps using that when you quickly want to change back to attack. If you are not so sure about your defense, man marking will improve the defense. You can also use your DMC on man marking, to help the other defenders. He will take out their AMC, or help with the FCs.
Phoenix 22-02-2004, 06:49:PM 23 Games into season 2 with united and i have conceeded 6 goals...
My tip is... get a better back line! This is what i have...
Starting: Silvestre (LB), Gardner (LCB), Ferdinand (RCB), Brown (RB)
Bench: O'Shea (LB/CB), Alpay (CB) and Bondera (RB)
I also have a few other players that were cheap but had great heading, tackling and marking stats that fill in when i need em too.... hardly ever.
maybe if he just changes tactic it will change...

Psst... don't tell him Bonera's the best defender in the game!

Actually according to my typing i have bondera :P
How does bonera stack up against Lucio or Burdisso from Boca- I just invested in him, mixed reactions from the coaches.
i use my LB and RB to close down, my 2 CBs to Stand off,
Left to right
Silvestre, Holfland, Ferdinand, Gallas
bench, wes Brown, Gary neville
and well, ive gone seasons without allowing more then 5 goals excluding any other competitions though ;)
hunttherock 24-02-2004, 12:07:PM Neville benched hmmmm....:D
Sky Reloaded 24-02-2004, 01:34:PM What's wrong with offside trap anyways? Sometimes it works wonders, especially when the CPU have wandering forwards, but sometimes my CB's dash forward on a cross and the CPU goes on clean.
and sometimes it doesnt.
I play with all my defenders on stand off.
TROD.
hunttherock 25-02-2004, 12:51:AM what is stand off ??
where your players dont pressure the oposition, they let them come onto you basically.
TROD.
defenders arent supposed to do that :) (pressure)
hunttherock 25-02-2004, 04:23:AM Yeah altho' leaving them on stand off does let you go on the counter.
Used it a lot when i played with Arsenal.
Had Campbell and Bonera in the middle of defence.
Vieria, Pires, Arteta, Ljungberg being the mid and Henry, Kanu up front:rockman:
