Australia's NSL has a final 6 and a finals series, this system should be followed by other leagues (it means that we don't have dry ends to seasons where a team is well ahead on the ladder)

is a load of bollocks. If a team has stuck it out throughout a season and is top at the end of it, they are Champions. End of story.
The idea of a so called Minor Premier is nonsense. Australia should get a Cup comp if they want a knockout finals series.

The standard system for football leagues has been working in the rest of the world for over 100 years, no offence intended but, do you really think FIFA will change it because Australia has a different system?

1:> The most consistent team will win the Premiership/League...TRUE Champions.
2:> The so called "playoffs" are the money makers and and all the hype that goes with it.
3:> I have never believed in any sort of play off series.
4:>As Mark posted, a cup competition should be introduced in Australia.
5:> The "Title" of Minor Premiers is an insult to any team that ends up in top position in the League, they are surely the league champions. They have proved it by consistency over the duration of the comp.
6:> Usually any team that ends up in the top position is usually "burned out" by the demands of keeping up to speed, and can end up no where in any play off series,and are then forgotten...the teams that cruise thro' the comp and end up in 5th or 6th spot are normally fresher for the play offs and the end results are never a true indicator of the best team out there..The Aussie League is a clone of the Rugby league playoff system that has operated in this country for years...ok for Rugby League i s'pose, but not for Football as we know it...The first past the post system has worked world wide ever since Football leagues started up years ago, along with Cup Comps, why not here in Australia..............

If the AFL didn't have a finals series I think the Swans would have been Champs a few years ago, am I right? I'm not sure as I've only been here for just over 3 years. I'd happily do away with it for the same reasons expressed before.

The thing is, a club works as hard as it can to get to the top and then they loose because of one mistake or luck on the oppositions part.

The AFL is different because it is hight scoring so it isn't just one mistake that costs a team the match it is just a matter of who is better and who makes the least number of mistakes

I prefer the traditional league system because it doesn't depend on a couple of mistakes it depends on who plays the best for the whole time not for just a couple of matches
