Cmon reds!! we need this win!!
Here is a review from www.premierleague.com
Liverpool goakeeper Chris Kirkland broke his wrist on Saturday morning and faces six weeks out, which means Jerzy Dudek will regain his starting spot.
Houllier could be forced into more changes for the vital clash at St Mary's with skipper Steven Gerrard and striker Milan Baros doubtful.
The pair picked up injuries in the 1-1 draw in Thursday's UEFA Cup tie with Marseille. Goalscorer Baros, only just back from a broken ankle, has a groin strain and could be rested in the first of three Liverpool league games in seven days.
Gerrard was clearly troubled by an ankle problem for much of the second half against Marseille but Liverpool will be desperate for him to retain his influential midfield role against the Saints.
Manager Gerard Houllier can chose between Emile Heskey and fit-again Florent Sinama-Pongolle as Baros' replacement, while Bruno Cheyrou could return to a midfield role if Gerrard fails to recover in time.
Liverpool also have doubts over Vladimir Smicer (Achilles) and Steve Finnan (shoulder).
Danny Murphy, now restored to his battling midfield role, is not afraid to admit that the past few months have been something of a shock to his system.
The 26-year-old spent the opening three months of the season out of the picture and the same thing happened again at the turn of the year, before his belated first-team comeback last month.
He admitted: “It has been difficult at times, certainly not being in the side for a long spell at the beginning of the season and then for a spell recently. It was hard to take, mainly because it came on the back of what I thought had been my best season.
“It was not something I had expected. But maybe I had started to take for granted that I was in the side."
Houllier said: “Danny has returned and he has stepped up his game with physical commitment to a different level.
“He can see a pass and be a good provider for our goalscorers. His work-rate has also improved.”
Of the Reds' upcoming programme the Frenchman added: “We have four games in 10 days and three in the next week, so I will take freshness into consideration and rotate the squad a little.
“We still have almost a third of the season left, but we do accept that the next phase of games is crucial to us.
“We have only lost once in the league since Southampton beat us at Anfield in December, but we certainly owe them something for that.”
Southampton(from): Niemi, Dodd, Lundekvam, M Svensson, Higginbotham, Telfer, Delap, Prutton, Le Saux, Beattie, Phillips, Pahars, Crainey, Fernandes, A Svensson, Hall, Kenton, Smith.
Liverpool (from): Kirkland, Finnan, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Hamann, Kewell, Cheyrou, Owen, Baros, Heskey, Sinama-Pongolle, Dudek, Diouf, Riise, Biscan, Welsh.
