a-shearer: Consider that England is a pale shadow of a former empire, with a GDP dwarfed by other nations. It is no longer a fraction of the empire it once was. While its contributions are many, it's no longer a superpower in any sense. And finding an international quality team among all that is about as likely as finding a sober member of parliament after 3 p.m.
Then consider the folly of throwing stones in glass houses.As a dual citizen, with my dad from S****horpe, I've rooted for England my whole life. But let's face it: they just stunk. And it wasn't, I don't think, a question of effort, so much as a complete and utter lack of any sort of cohesiveness. I think we have to consider that while Kevin Keegan can motivate a club side that isn't entirely comprised of stars, he just doesn't have it to keep this lot together. He throws out a great quote and I think his commitment is genuine but this side played like they'd just showed up on a Sunday afternoon and decided to knock it around. Despite numerous weak moments of their own, both Turkey and Romania utterly impressed in comparison to England. No support, no build-up or extended, methodical control, mere flashes of creativity, a serious problem from the mid back in handling any kind of speed... they should start over from scratch. New coach, new selections, and a serious look at how this debacle was allowed to happen.
