View Full Version : MLS Abandons Regular Season Overtime Run DMB 25-03-2004, 01:10:AM http://www.mlsnet.com/content/04/mls0323ot.html (Y) Elber2k3 25-03-2004, 01:12:AM Wow the MLS will play with the international standard rules. You just have to add relegation then it will be fine. Run DMB 25-03-2004, 01:14:AM Originally posted by Elber2k3 You just have to add relegation then it will be fine. MLS is not ready for relegation/promotion and likely won't be ready within the next ten years. After that, we'll see. Elber2k3 25-03-2004, 01:19:AM I don't think you will have relegation/promotion ever. In other sports it isn't so it won't be at MLS. Why isn't there any relegation at NBA,NHL etc. Can someone explain this to me? Keemo 25-03-2004, 01:32:AM I dont know but the NFL needs relagation bad. (AZ Cardinals anyone?) Voltaic Borusse 25-03-2004, 01:36:AM Originally posted by Elber2k3 Why isn't there any relegation at NBA,NHL etc. Can someone explain this to me? There isn't any relegation in (NBA) because there's only one pro-basketball league. The only thing you'll see get relegated from the NBA is the crappy players, who then get get relegated to a basketball development league (NBDL). The same thing applies to really good players in the (NBDL) who are ready and want a chance to showcase there skill in the (NBA). USA Supporter 25-03-2004, 01:40:AM The MLS will never have relegation. Relegation just isn't part of sports culture in the USA, and it never will be. People wouldn't support teams that aren't in the top flight which would cause severe financial problems for many teams. They would look at these teams like they look at Minor League teams in baseball. If any of the big leagues in the USA had a vote whether to allow relegation or not, every single owner would vote no. In the NFL, there is one professional league, and that is it. If you aren't in that, you either have to go to Canada or you just don't play football. Owners would be against relegation because they would lose out on the TV contracts, ticket sales, etc. if their team was relegated. Relegation just wouldn't work here in any sport. Owners would be against it, players would be against it, and your average American fan would be against it as well. $teauA 25-03-2004, 02:59:AM YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I've been saying that they should do this for so ******* long thank you thank you thank you man a good decision by the MLS wow amazing stuff (H) Bobby 25-03-2004, 04:00:AM They can't add relegation. Have you seen the a-league? Only one team could handle the MLS money wise. bjmenge 25-03-2004, 04:30:AM Excellent news. (Y) This is great too: The MLS Competition Committee also eliminated the 3+1 substitution rule used since the League’s inception, which enabled teams to substitute three field players and an additional goalkeeper substitution (if necessary) during the course of a match. Beginning with the 2004 regular season, teams will only be permitted three total substitutions, which is also in line with the international standard. Bobby 25-03-2004, 04:31:AM Thank God. NY/NJ (are they still called that? heh) cheated with that last year, IMO. bjmenge 25-03-2004, 04:32:AM Actually, I think they just go by "MetroStars" now. I have a feeling that that incident was the final straw in getting rid of the extra sub. Keemo 25-03-2004, 04:36:AM Good job MLS!! There is still alot more work to do tho...and national attention to get. Bummy_JaB 25-03-2004, 04:38:AM Damn I cant wait to go watch adu at Giants stadium. Hopefully he will decide to stay sum time before being called to a well known team. That is if he performs on high standards. SB9Dragon 25-03-2004, 05:38:AM Good for the MLS to abide to some International rules... No more cheating the 3+1 Sub system... Metrostars and KC  :D pennington10 25-03-2004, 05:41:AM Good stuff for the MLS. The league can only go up. Now only if the Earthquakes move out of that dump Spartan Staduim. #1 Stunna 25-03-2004, 07:01:AM Originally posted by Keemo I dont know but the NFL needs relagation bad. (AZ Cardinals anyone?) c'mon now :( ...its all Bidwell's fault, cheapest fu*king owner ever. :p But yeah, they suck. :D And good to hear about the MLS. Eddie Gaven is the best MLS goalkeeper of all time. 0.00 goals allowed per game career average. What I never understood about Spartan is what is up with that wall next to the sideline on the camera side. It obstructs the view during ESPN broadcasts. It's like three yards from the sideline, someone could run out of bounds and crack his skull on that thing. Rochester Rhino 25-03-2004, 09:01:AM Originally posted by Ljungberg08 They can't add relegation. Have you seen the a-league? Only one team could handle the MLS money wise. What team would that be? Avalanche 25-03-2004, 09:30:AM About today's developments: Wow, MLS is growing up! Not only did they drop golden goal, they also got rid of the 3+1 subs rule. That means we will never see Eddie Gaven "goalkeeping" for the MetroStars again. Now, how 'bout one 12 team division for 2005? Bobby 25-03-2004, 10:21:AM Originally posted by Rochester Rhino What team would that be? your lot. They seriously should move them up to MLS with the same management. Rochester Rhino 25-03-2004, 10:38:AM They will, we're waiting for it to warm up so we can start building their new soccer specific stadium. That has been our only drawback is playing in a baseball stadium where the field does not meet the MLS dimensions. It's suppose to be completed by the end of this season, so expect us in the MLS within 2 years. Bobby 25-03-2004, 10:40:AM Good. Rochester is a good market for the sport. pennington10 25-03-2004, 11:56:AM Originally posted by Run DMB No kidding. It's like three yards from the sideline, someone could run out of bounds and crack his skull on that thing. I have wondered the same thing as well. If you have been there it only looks more confusing. I have seen football games and players run out of bounds and hit it all the time so I guess the same thing could happen at an Earthquakes game as well. The whole staduim is crap. It is pretty much like a bigger high school football field. m3th0d 25-03-2004, 12:52:PM it's about bloody time. (Y) Solo Inter 25-03-2004, 08:19:PM this is great combine the a-league and make relegation and promotion...might actually start following it I know thats bad but pennington10 25-03-2004, 08:25:PM Also Seattle should get in the MLS. The Seattle Sounders are pretty big up there even for an A-league team and Seahawks Staduim is a great place to watch a game. kwan0023 30-03-2004, 10:06:AM This is the only place where I taught this might get answered I was wondering if anybody had takening part of the MLS intern program, I was planning on trying to get a job with MLS when I graduated from college, in the managment part with a team. Just wondering if anybody had taken part of this program or knew somebody that did. Thanks any info will be helpful Bobby 30-03-2004, 10:37:AM Originally posted by pennington10 Also Seattle should get in the MLS.
