BUSH ALLOWS GAYS TO BE FIRED FOR BEING GAY

Despite President Bush's pledge that homosexuals "ought to have the same rights" (1) as all other people, his Administration this week ruled that homosexuals can now be fired from the federal workforce because of their sexual orientation.

According to the Federal Times, the president's appointee at the Office of Special Counsel ruled that federal employees will now "have no recourse if they are fired or demoted simply for being gay." (2) While the Bush Administration says it is legally prohibited from firing a person for their conduct, they have the legal right to fire or demote someone based on their sexual orientation. To carry out the directive, the White House has begun removing information from government websites about sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace. (3)

Not only does the new directive contradict the president's own promise to treat homosexuals as equals under the law, but it also contradicts what the Administration told Congress. As noted in a bipartisan letter from four Senators to the Administration, "During the confirmation process [of the president's appointee], you assured us that you were committed to protecting federal employees against unlawful discrimination related to their sexual orientation." A couple weeks back they showed this poll on CNN something like "People think that Bush/Kerry will do better with:"

And then they had different categories, Economy, Gay Marriage, War, etc. 65% (or so, but i know it was well above 50) thought that Bush will take better actions in terms of gay marriage. And since everyone knows how Bush feels about it, so obviously that 65% is homophobic.

Howard Stern is going to be one of the main reasons for Bush getting voted out.

This whole freedom of speech "indecent" material crap is getting out of hand. Howard Stern starts to talk bad about Bush and he gest taken off in 6 cities where the radio station is owned by a close friend of Bush.

Howard talks about sex, he gets fined. Oprah talks about oral and "tossing salads"....and nothing happens. :rolleyes:

Wow, this is totally stupid... people can be fired now just for being gay? That doesn't make any sense.

I can understand if he is against gay marriage, because I myself don't feel that marriage should be between anybody except a man and a woman (it's the way I was brought up, marriage should only be a religious thing in my opinion, and in that case it doesn't make sense for gay people to get married) but this is just too stupid.

My take on gay people... I probably am homophobic. I don't like them very much, not so much that I don't like them, I just don't like being around them and choose not to. I do hate teenage gays though, I just think that they are attention seeking losers... I've said **** to gay people at my school before, meh... If you wanna be gay, I think that's your loss (and a nasty one at that) but you can do whatever you want. Just don't try to hit on me. I wouldn't like seeing gay people making out in front of me, but I guess some people would feel the same about me making out with a girl in public- that's why we can always turn our head the other way and not look.

At the same time though, I think gay people should have the same rights to everything, just like I do. Gay president, gay marriage, gay parent... who cares?

Sorry for not being politically correct, you can go ahead and slag me for being homophobic now :hump:

gay marriage is in my opinion one of the worst things people can do. even God says in the Bible, Qoran, and other holy books that a man having sex with another man or woman with another woman is wrong and it is a sin. so people who are against it are right because first our Lord is against it, second its another invention of diseases like Aids and HIV, and third its just nasty...

but all people have their opinions, and mine is that gay marriages should NOT be allowed, but about the topic at hand which is whether to fire a person because he or she is gay, now i am kind of neutral in this one, because it depends on what kind of job this person has.

Regardless of whether you think gay marriage is a good thing (which I'm still undecided about - marriage that is, not living together) you can't fire someone for his/her sexual orientation. First and foremost this goes against a human being's rights. What you do at home has nothing to do with what you do at work, unless what you do at home clearly affects your work (think drugs, alcohol abuse) and being gay certainly doesn't affect the way you work so this is total nonsense.

The US have denied hundreds of people in Guantanamo their human rights, are they going to deny hundreds (probably thousands) of gay people their rights?
what next? can't go enter college/uni if you're left handed?!

you didnt get what i was trying to say.

i didnt mean to talk about salary, but i meant to say that gays simply should not have some jobs like in example: gay babysitters, gay phys ed teachers and stuff like that. ;)

i dont smoke weed or carry guns... but i did get in a fight or two and i did have sex, BUT i never read in the Qoran that a male and female should not pleasure themselves in a sexual way, OR that self defense is also not allowed.

1) When did your Lord say he was against it? And aren't we all his children? Does one father like one of his children less because of his sexual preferences? Than why would your Lord be against it?
