Ok first off I'll do like Cody and prove I kept to the rules I set myself. :)

As you can see I've already been playing a while. Next I'll post my transfers and the one that's following. I haven't sold any players, as I didn't think I needed to. There is interest in Michel Rodriguez from Caen, however.

So far I've played 4 friendlies.

I've lost one, to Wisla Krakow, after a 3-1 loss in the penalty shootout. 0-0 at the final whistle.

I've won 2-0 against Wolves, 2-5 at Bastia, and 3-1 against Celtic. I'm starting to fear Cody was right about this going to be an easy league...

Of course, it's just friendlies, we'll have to see.
Next I'm playing Dortmund home. I'm starting 14 year old Belgian GK Gabriel Gulyas in this one. He's had 4 good sub appearances for me so far, conceding 2 against Bastia, but keeping his net clean the other games.
Suleiman Mohammed is a 19 year old Nigerian, who's going to be my captain it seems. My team works better, when I give him the band in stead of Laurent de Palmas.

I knew about him from my first 03/04 game with FC Den Bosch. He wouldn't come to me there, but here he did want to come :p

I realise now, that I only signed one under 18, so Beardsley will mostly be managing randoms for me now. The only under 18 I have has even become my second choice Gk :)
I tried to get Ben Arfa, Zwikker, and Jo, as I wanted some good young strikers in the backup, but they wouldn't come. I'll see about some in a bit as well.

Dortmund was a good beating, as expected. The first half went better than expected, actually, only conceding the one goal, but my young GK finally really cracked under the pressure of Koller and Addo after half time. My first GK, Padovani, kept a clean sheet afterwards, so good result really, and the crowd turn up was good as well :p

Target reached! 9 matches to play in the league, and I've become unreachable to all the others. My championship match against Raon-l'Etape was a tribute to the season. Good to be back in form, as I was 'struggling' a bit earlier on, with two draws and a loss in a small period of time. I've got the quarter final coming up for the French Cup, against Laval. Only 4 teams from the First League still in it, but three will probably make it through to the semis, as two face each other, and two face non-league sides :|...

I'll come back to the WC later, as I haven't played it yet, and Cannes is more important here anyway.

After being forced out of the League Cup thanks to my excellent penalty takers, I was left battling on three fronts only. First to be decided was the league. I'll post the final standings only, but it was decided the afternoon before my 32nd match, against Sochaux away. On this afternoon Auxerre, number 2 in the rankings, and playing the 33rd match of their league ties, had to face 3rd placed Guingamp, away. They took a 0-1 lead, early in the game, but after the break Guingamp hammered them down to a 4-1 loss. It was the 22nd of April. Our match ended a 1-1 draw, the last points lost this season as it turned out.
It didn't matter. :)

Next decider was the 24th of May in Rotterdam.

I had to play PSV in the UEFA Cup final.

The semi against PSG had been quite close, losing 2-1 away, and having a penalty against the 80th minute of the home/return game, at 2-0 at the time. My GK, young Belgian Gulyas, held it and Kristjansson finished it off 2 minutes later.

Not too many, thank you, as I still had to play the French Cup final without them...

rpvankasteren
28-04-2004, 03:31:AM
Ok, I've finished my game :(

I came to the world cup having been asked to reach the second round. As I said earlier, that shouldn't be too hard.

First game was Paraguay. My GK scored an own goal to get them up 1-0, well it was a deflected free kick really. My young striker Vincent Péricard scored 2 on his debut to keep the 3 points with us. Good performance all around, but the defense looked a little bit unreliable, really.

Second was Guinea, who were beaten 3-0 by Holland in the first match. The only highlight in this match was an excellent free kick by Achille Emana from the edge of the 16 yard box, a little left from the center of the opponents goal. Oh, and a fierce tackle from behind by Samuel Eto'o, injuring an opponent and earning him a yellow.
Holland had drawn against Paraguay, so I had qualified from the group stage already, needing a draw against Holland in the 3rd match to win the group.

Then Holland. This was always going to be a hard one. When my right back, Jean-Noël Perrier-NDoumbé, fouled Makaay in the box after 6 minutes, earning him a yellow which would have concequences later on, the lead was easily obtained by Holland. The match played out rather even, to my surprise, and my DMC Valéry Mezague was able to draw us level just after half-time.
Then there was my right back again. He complained about an offside call once too many, and he was sent off. Crap. Luckily I had Rigobert Song on the bench, so I brought him on for Samuel Eto'o. Which annihilated my chances of winning, but I was quite sure we were not going to lose. And we didn't.

rpvankasteren
28-04-2004, 03:33:AM
In the second round I had to face Senegal. The game was very uneven, and I'm sure we would have scored a couple more if I hadn't taken off both my strikers and my GK to give some others their debuts.

rpvankasteren
28-04-2004, 03:39:AM
Real opposition again in the quarters, facing the generic side of the U.S.A.. Thank you SI and MLS for your conflict. The match was completely theirs to be taken, especially in the first half, if only they had scored some. When Geremi scored a lucky long range effort, a couple of minutes before half-time, their side looked like it was demoralized. They couldn't get a good attack afoot in the second half, and my team didn't do anything at all. Only Eto'o, who earned himself his second yellow of the tournament, meaning he was suspended for the semi final. Later in the match my other striker, Péricard, got injured, resulting him to be out for a month.

rpvankasteren
28-04-2004, 03:49:AM
I was to face Mexico in the semi final. They had gotten some ok results against South Korea and Germany, but we should have been able to beat them. If we had any real strikers left. My backup strikers were my starting MR, Emana, and ML, Thomas Job, who are excellent on their favoured position, but not as good as strikers. I had rated them better than this when I selected my squad. My two backup wingers, Eric Djemba-Djemba on the right and Pierre Wome on the left, did an excellent job replacing them though. This led to a game that saw many many small chances for my two "strikers", and 2 for Mexico. They played very professional counter attacks, and we lost fair and square.

rpvankasteren
28-04-2004, 04:02:AM
The last match then, the 3rd place playoff. I faced France in this one. They had an almost completely fit squad, and it was very good to beat them. The only one to be a bit doubtful was Vieira who started with a fitness value of 61.
They started the match off in a high pace, but my ML, Job, proved that he did know how to finish a good long run off. Vieira was bravely tracking him the whole way from the center of the pitch to the left edge of the 16 yard box. There Job left him standing and passed my Cannes player Phillipe Mexès like he wasn't there. No really, he ran straight through him. The finish against Barthez was an easy one. Vieira soon had to leave the pitch, when he received a push from Geremi, who collected his 2nd yellow of the tournament there, and will be suspended the next time I touch that game. The game then became more even. Until Pires' red in the second half, for kicking at my right center back, Lucien Mettomo, ended their resistance. We got two more goals after that, but they didn't really do anything anymore.

Obviously, I wasn't sacked after the tournament.

nice challenge and nice result, but you do know that you're winning these games with a crack in the pavement of tactics management....

considered a cheat on most forums, in fact...

i've participated in a few official challenges already in which this "running" midfielder tactic is simply prohibited...

lol, nevertheless, you did well, with some very nice finds, although again using thorarinn (note the spelling, lol, it follows icelandic pronunciation) brynjar kristjansson does not show too much talent finding skill either

would be good to see an "official" challenge here in which members can participate against each other...

I do know about the running mid, but I'm not going to drop my CM4 tactic. My tactic existed before the 'cheat', so I don't think it's cheating.

I never used Kristjansson before this game, and he was all that wanted to come to me. I needed some attacking strength. Carlier wanted to come, but I couldn't afford him with my funds. When Strassbourg offered him, I took him gladly.
