first of all, i'll praise easports on making at least an improved product. i have to say the biggest improvement is in the level of difficulty. the main reason i stopped playing fifa 2000 was it was too easy to just dribble through the whole team and score. playing fifa 2000, you could tell the developers didn't know a thing about football. the game just doesn't work right. look, what kind of a football game is it when your defense hangs around at the halfway line like the U.S. national team? then when a pass is kicked long, the computer mysteriously is able to outrun your defenders. and when you attack, your team doesn't come with you. it's only the other forward. heck, i have the forwards doing the wingers job and always end up having one of them dribble through the whole defense or heading it home.
this is eliminated in euro 2000. this is back to fifa 99. i think you guys are really underrating fifa 99. ok, pinball game, but it's actually fun and enjoyable if you really play it. if it wasn't for my almost-always-working corner tactic, i wouldn't have done as well i did. in euro 2000, the level of difficulty in world class is much better, more like fifa 99. the only things i'm annoyed about are this:
1. the way the computer player can just dribble through your whole defense and you can't do anything about it despite tackling. come on, if you really want to dominate the game, do it through passing like in fifa 99, not through dribbling.
2. the way that you get tired so fast when you're running with the ball. you can't even dribble the ball. i know it shouldn't be too much like in fifa 2000, but i thought the dribbling in fifa 99 was excellent. i mean, i know that most players CAN sprint. have these ea guys ever watched ryan giggs or steve mcmanaman or ronaldo? players can run when they put on bursts of speed. ea sports should concentrate on the fatigue that really happens: that after alot of fast sprinting, your player eventually wears down. i mean, let's be realistic, a player doesn't break down after he's takes 5 steps. i watch too much football on TV, i play football, i live football, and i can swear that this thing by ea sports is wrong.
and more praises. i really like the moving backgrounds, they're kool. the speed is ok if you turn it to slow, it's ok. there're a lot more options in general and in team management. the tackling is much better, the computer and you can't just press the d button and it automatically tackles. what i don't like is how you can't see the attributes of the players easily. and when you do, i don't like how ea has changed the attribute scale. i can't remember about euro 2000, but in fifa 2000 skill ranged from 1 - 7. i mean, i fifa 99 it was 16 i thought that was good enough. in fifa 98 it was 100. come on, a lower range means everyone's a clone and teams don't really differ. that's also one of the main reasons i stopped playing fifa 2000. also, what's up with the players looks? like over half of the turkish team has blond hair? there's only one person with blond hair on the turkish squad and that's abdullah. again, big messups by ea sports. i like how they tried to change the look of the players though, at least. there are more details and everything.
and the classic teams aren't really exciting. they're not much different from the regular ones.
but people, don't you realize why this has happened? don't you realize why wc 98 was better than fifa 98? it's because ea has less teams and players and leagues to worry about!!! this is exactly the logic in the other series, like nba live, nhl, etc. look at the level of perfection in those games. excellent. and look at fifa. it sucks. ea sports is lazy. despite being one of the biggest companies, they get worn out by some simple player information and can't focus on anything else. AND they can't even get half of the stuff right.
