05.04.2004 | Bayern take on an All Star team drawn from the Qatar Q-League in Doha on Tuesday (Live coverage at www.fcbayern.de on FCB Champions from 6 pm CET) with the home side featuring big names such as Stefan Effenberg, Mario Basler and Gabriele Batistuta, all determined to prove the football revolution taking place in the Persian Gulf is based on solid foundations and not merely a lucrative retirement home for former greats in the twilight of their careers.

Bayern travel the 4,500 kilometres to the capital of the Arabian kingdom knowing the match is a friendly only in name. It promises to be a good opportunity for the players recently consigned to the substitutes' bench to state a case for inclusion over the remainder of the season, and in any case the German champions will set off without seven injured squad members.

Thank god they lost. I am waiting for Qatar to start bitching about not being in the champions league this summer even though they are not in Europe.

I was offered to play in Qatar, but I turned it down because I am allergic to sand.

I am watching it now. I just want to see Effenberg. Somehow I think the score was fixed to give the fans something to watch.

But it doesn't look like anyone is even there...
