Bordeaux 1-2 Valencia
1-0 Albert Riera 18'
1-1 Ruben Baraja 75'
1-2 Rufete 87'
Good win for Valencia at the Stade Chaban Delmas against a Bordeaux side that ran out of ideas.
THey had the better of the start of play, and even took the lead from a free kick struck by Riera, that went in off the bar with quite an element of luck to it.
The game was spoiled by the referee, as Mavuba (Bordeaux) got sent off after only 27 minutes. But the home side kept plugging away and went in a goal up at the break.
Valencia rarely caused any problems, only from time to time with neat diagonal longs balls. At the same time Canizares had a quiet night. It was more a case of Bordeaux failing to make the best of chances VAlencia were giving them.
And the more the 2nd half went on the more Valencia were getting back into the game... and they equalised with a top quality goal. Baraja one two with Sissoko and side fotted the ball past Ramé.
Bordeaux just fell asleep at the back as they tried to push even further... and conceded another with only 3 minutes left, it was Rufete this time.
Valencia won away from home without really pushing their talent, and without Pablo Aimar. Bordeaux will have to battle hard to go through.
