online footy simulation league

thought id ask to see if any of you guys might fancy joining up to a simulation league i run.

a lot of people have taken notice recently of the site and have asked a lot of questions about it, so hence ive decided to do a FAQ about it all.

we are going to be looking for a lot more people to take over teams next season, and the more of you who understand and like the idea, the better and easier it will be for us to agree to you taking over a club.

1. CPL Structure

The CPL consists of 36 teams split into 3 divisions of 10 and 1 of 6. Each team has at least one ACTIVE manager to operate it. No person can manage 2 teams except in extreme circumstances where the CPL Board's approval has been given, and the entire league notified (note this situation often only occurs when a manager is acting as caretaker for another manager for a short period of time) for next season there will be more countries added, France, Germany, Spain, Scotland, Portugal, Balkan Superliga, Atlantic League, Italy, Romania, (not all the teams will be filled with a human manager, but the game has a facility where as a random team selection and random tactic ca be chosen, thus computer managers will control the teams not taken by human managers.

How do i get a team

Basically the answer here is you apply to the league and ask if u can manage xxx. if the team is not taken then u are installed as manager and then take control of that clubs finances, transfer dealings, team selection etc anythin that deals with that clubs business.

What is a club roster ?

a club roster is a file that details a specific clubs playing staff and their playing abilities, along with their current fitness, injury status and stats from playing throught out the season

to explain this further here is an example of a roster

http://www.thecpl.org.uk/rosters/ars.txt (this is the current arsenal squad and so as u understand what everything means on the file here is an explanation here

http://www.thecpl.org.uk/soft.html

[u/]How do i pick my team?[/u]

simply put u pick 11 players in a formation of ur choice, 442, 433, 541 etc and select 5 subs. u then select what tactic u wish to play, attacking, long ball, defensive etc and include any other conditions like subs or tactic change if u go down by 3 goals for example. there is a program called tsm_plus that helps u to create ur sheet.

How is the match played?

Once the sheets are sent to me i input them into the software i have called ESMS, it runs the game based on ur choices, of players, the positions u played them, tactics chosen, etc It is very important to note here that the game is
not run in "real-time", but all at once.
Meaning that a manager can't interfere on a specific minute
and tell the administrator to substitute a player or change
tactic. The manager's work is concluded by sending a teamsheet
with instructions to the admin.
after the match a match report is posted that looks like this

http://www.thecpl.org.uk/cup/mnu_mid.txt

What is ESMS?

The ESMS program is a soccer management simulator for
play-by-email games. A play-by-email (PBEM) soccer game
usually consists of an administrator, who runs the
league, and managers, each managing one or more teams
in the league. The game is a PBEM version of many famous
management games, like the Premier Manager, Ultimate
FIFA manager, and of course the great Championship Manager
series. However, it only consists of the league running
part, which includes running a game between two teams
using their rosters and team sheets, updating the rosters using the after-game stats,
and updating the league table, using the results. All
other aspects of soccer management, eg. Player Transfers
are decided upon by each league for itself.
These aspects are easy to handle and need no computer
programs. ESMS was not written with a specific league in
mind, but with a possibility for many uses and different
ideas, using the same game engine.

What do I need to play?
A computer, with a valid e-mail account, and just a tiny bit of time each week to run your club. It's up to you how much time you spend playing, and we can safely say, the more you put in, the more enjoyment there is for you.

hopefully all this should help you to understand the basic concept. the rest is all explained on the site or you can PM me and i will happily explain the rules, transfers, finance etc to you.

sorry for the length, but its important you fully understand the concept, as it can be fun , jus ask the guys who take part just now.

the site address is http://www.thecpl.org.uk, least u can do is have a look. we are especially keen to get people who are keen to manage german clubs next season.
