A tragic movie for the 2 scuba-divers on their holidays. They died. I thought the rescue could make them survive after 24 hrs on the ocean, but it was too late...
that movie sucked IMO. I hated it. the nude scene was the only memorable thing about it even though the early camera work makes the movie look like a porno

yeh im still yet to see BR2, BR1 is one of favourite movies of all time (check the YMDB thread), but ive heard horrid things about 2.
I haven't heard anything about it, but i've seen some pictures and I fear its a more psycho version of #1. More blood and wilder battlescenes. The first one could actually be realistic, in it's own way, but I fear #2 will just take off into they sky.
I did think it was dull. It was technically perfect, almost. but the story for me, specialy Weisz's part, didnt work. I dont know if we are supposed to like her or not, and then we feel bad for Ralph Fiennes but I felt it was more because of how she was (secretive, cheating) than because what happened to her.
what did you think?
I didnt find it boring at all, it gripped me from start to finish, very engrossing story. I do agree that Weisz's character was very complicated though, unnecessarily so. I think she is a terrible actress but, to be fair, I doubt anyone could have pulled that off. Does she really love Fienne's character? Is she really a slut? Does she really care? Does she really understand? How much of what she says was true? All of those question's answers would have a big impact on the final overview of the story and none were well answered. That was the weakest part of the film for me - a poor performance and a poor character - stopping it from being a truly great film. The more I think back on Fiennes' performance, however, the more I like it - got the mild mannered, passive brit down to a tee.
I did still think it was very good over all though - not high up on my top 10 films of the year list but on it nonetheless.

BR2 has crap written all over it. I had high hopes for this movie coz I loved BR1, but after half an hour I just had to turn it off... After a few weeks I finally had the guts to give it a second go, watch it completely and felt cheated. I want those two hours of my life back
If you really want to go for it, I reccomend you to read this first: http://www.mandiapple.com/snowblood/battleroyale2.htm (contains a few spoilers). But if it was for me, I'd forbid you to even come close as 1 foot to this movie.

that was exactly my problem, only that the hate for her character really made the story suffer for me because I didnt care at all about her, and so Fiennes journey of discovery didnt work much for me. I agree about Fiennes' performance though. it was excellent.

The film didnt even allow you to hate the character outright though - which would perhaps have made it more accessible as the viewer could have then moved from the personal issues and on to the much wider issue of morality - but because this character was so unclear, both in presentation and interpretation, it failed to allow us past these basic quibles of personality into the much more important overriding theme. That whole part needed to be rewritten and recast.
Is it just me, or is Fiennes in everything right now?
but yeah, he's in this, Harry Potter, Wallace & Gromit (animated though), The Chumscrubber (havent seen it yet), and The White Countess which is an Oscar movie apparently.
