QOTW: Should Arsene Wenger be sacked?

Pie-eating goalkeeper resigns.

Sutton reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has agreed to resign from the National League club.

Shaw took the decision to resign after the Football Association and the Gambling Commission opened investigations into his pie-eating during Monday night's 2-0 FA Cup fifth round loss to Arsenal.

A British newspaper's betting company, which sponsored Sutton United for the game, offered 8/1 odds that Shaw would eat a meat pie during the match.

And, after Sutton had used all their substitutions and there was no chance he could be brought on, Shaw was shown on the BBC coverage eating a pie while he sat on the bench.

Sutton manager Paul Doswell told Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday afternoon: "I woke up this morning and a mini-crisis had started.

"We realised the implications of what had happened, with regards to the FA and the Gambling Commission, and unfortunately Wayne has resigned from his position on the back of that.

(...)

"I'm devastated and the chairman is devastated. I am not going to hide the fact that we are all very emotional about it. I have spoken to Wayne on the phone this afternoon and the guy is in tears, he was crying down the phone.

(...)

"It is one of the saddest stories in football today, because Wayne is a great character and also president of our community and our disabled teams and the girls' teams.

should there be any doubt any more?

Blessing in disguise for Arsenal owners and board members, I guess, is that unlike Furguson and Man Utd, Wenger's demise will mean that Arsenal fans won't have silly expectations about some sort of make-believe style and swagger that their team apparently embodied. Just competing for the league again should suffice.

Hiring people like Simeone and Allegri could be interesting. But Inter's Chinese owners will get Simeone to Milano sooner or later, so it'll mean more managerial turnover than Arsenal fans would be used to. There's an entire generation of them who were born after Wenger took over, so it'd be quite a change. That said, winning meaningful trophies will be quite a change too, I imagine.

Arsenal is screwed. I can't see how there could be a way back. Key players want to leave and I see it difficult for Arsenal to attract players.

Man U went through a disastrous period when Moyes came in but the big difference is Man U is the most supported club in the world and has lots of financial backing. It required a few years of players leaving and coming in for record fees. Now Man U finally looks like a team that can win again. I don't think Arsenal can do this. They are not powerful enough to compete in the transfer market

I don't think wenger should be sacked though. Too disrespectful for an icon like him. He should resign. There is absolutely no future for arsenal with him.

the difference was that before moyes, Man U were actually winning meaningful titles and the legacy left behind S.A.G was enough to attract players.

you guys got di maria who did flop but was a champions league winner and did not seem to care about the fact that Utd wasn't gonna be in the CL.

Some other team like Liverpool would never be able to attract someone like Di Maria. I don't think he should be sacked but Arsenal should tell him to resign.
