Reasons Why I Didnt Buy FIFA 17 and Why I'm Not Buying FIFA 18

What is it about FIFA 16 that you want FIFA 18 to be like? I've gone back from time to time to FIFA 16 and FIFA 17 because of certain things I liked in those games. But since I got FIFA 18 running pretty much the way I want -- as good or almost as good as FIFA 16 -- it's the only game I play now.
I think he meant to make fiFA 16 play like FiFA 18 "would like to have a GP mod that makes Fifa 16 play like Fifa 18"

No, I want the other way around. I want Fifa 16 gameplay to be like Fifa 18 :)

+1, this! :)
Okay. But that puzzles me because FIFA 18 default gameplay is without question the worst FIFA gameplay in 5 years. It's taken me dozens of hours to come up with edits that make FIFA 18 finally play a decent game of football. And it's still not as good as FIFA 16. The reason I play FIFA 18 mostly have to do with Fidel's fantastic Pro Cam mod, and the improved animations.

Hmm, well ok I guess that GP has always been a personal reference. We all have different playstyles. I find the Fifa 18 GP to be more "fluid", if that makes sense. Nevertheless it would be a treat to be able to customize the game in both directions. @bangus: Mind sharing your GP for example? :blush:

Do you mean 18 gameplay is more end to end? If so, yes it certainly is that. Here's what I see with default 18:

-CPU relentless mindless attack attack attack
-CPU no back passing; no thought, intelligence or finesse to any part of its game
-CPU super-boosted, every team
-CPU super-human defenders (which I like, but it's not fair and balanced, it's done with cheats)
-CPU suction defending

I spent hours trying to correct all of that, my preferred pace and style is slow slow and slower: the CPU stopping, thinking, passing backwards, and passing side to side, rather than just mindlessly pushing straight up the pitch and attacking every time. Most people around here want more speed and excitement, want even more end to end gameplay, even more CPU attacking, and think the game is too easy on Legendary etc. They want the super-challenge of an even more super-human CPU. Me, I edit FIFA to play a fair game on Professional, where players perform like human beings and not cyborgs. Most FIFA gamers aren't interested in my db edits, it's one reason I stopped sharing my edited db files two years ago.

Thank you for those specific points. I will consider that when I play the game more thoroughly. I hope I didn't offend you in any way, and I think it's great that you have managed to tweak the game to your own taste. Sorry to hear that you're not willing to share. Just because "most people" want something, doesn't make it right. To be fair I don't see any "rights" or "wrongs" in this topic - it's all a question of personal taste. I mean it's true that this "gameplay-issue" will always be divided. Some want an "arcade-like"-game, and others want more of a simulator. I just think it would be great if there are existing possibilities to mod the game in either way.

I'm not offended at all, sorry if I gave that impression.

I agree, there is no right or wrong. But there definitely is "understanding" and "not understanding." The last time I shared my test db, I explained as I always do what it was I was attempting to accomplish with my lowered player ratings for realism, and my team tactic edits to slow down CPU attacking. The sorts of responses I got were: "This db isn't very good because players like Messi are rated too low." And "The CPU just passes the ball around and doesn't attack, the gameplay is too boring."

Most people do not understand.

But there are existing possibilities, that's exactly what we all discuss every year here. All that info is available in this forum; has been posted and re-posted many times. I've posted my edits, and slider suggestions, and what I do, every year for six years now.

And the "arcade" part is easy to accomplish; the game out of the box is arcade. And anyone who wants it even more arcade only has to raise speed and accel sliders into the high 50s. The tough part -- the editing work needed -- is trying to create a simulation version of the game that plays at the slower pace of real football.

@bangus actually EA reduced the Direct mind of AI with the updates. The game on launch actually felt like Opponent AI is trying to push forward everytime.

This is actually gone now. I don't know if that's good, but I'm enjoying it.

Really? I'm still using the week-one files, I should update the game! Thanks.

No you shouldn't. You may not like it as some people are saying this made the game easy, made defending harder and so on.
Ha! You think like I do. I'm actually real happy with the game now, I'd kill myself if I ruined that.

I always copy and save my FIFA 18 main files before updating. But who knows anymore what EA is doing with their updates and Origin launcher files.

Okay thanks. So, are you playing FIFA 18 or 16? Are you interested in editing ideas for 16, is that what you're asking?

I play both actually :)
Yes I have always been interested in editing ideas for 16, and I did actually find a Fifa 18 GP mod (but for Fifa 14 I believe).
But I have never seen this type of GP mod (it's a .big file) - I was under the impression that GP mods were made with cl.ini edits (?).

I don't know anything about big files. cl.ini edits don't always work as the game reads from multiple files, so maybe someone created a big gp mod to access those other files?

Supernova and I are in a conversation about 16, he's trying to lower CPU boost values, especially against small teams, and was wondering if team tactics work in 16. I posted the following:
That is a problem in every FIFA, I can give you some editing ideas. But first try lowering CPU defense pressure in team tactics. And try this in cl.ini:

AI_USE_MORALE_EFFECTS=0
AI_USE_TEAM_CHEMISTRY=0
CPUAI_DEFENSE_DIFFICULTY=0
CPUAI_OFFENSE_DIFFICULTY=0
CPUAI_PROCESS_ALL_DECISIONS=0
CPUAI_USE_ATTRIBUTES=0
CPUAI_USE_DIFFICULTY=0
CPUAI_USE_MENTALITY=0
CPUAI_USE_TRAITS=0
MUST_RUN_FWD_INTENSITY=0
ADAPTIVE_DIFFICULTY=0
[ADAPTIVE_DIFFICULTY]
ENABLED=0
I don't remember what works and doesn't work in 16.

But you have to start somewhere. So... find a small team that pressures too much. Use the in-game editor to change their formation to a defend formation, and edit their defense pressure to 1. You can also edit their defense aggression, but that supposedly only controls their tackling aggression. Now try playing them again to see if you notice any changes.

There are a whole bunch of team edits in the db tables that can edited to change CPU team behavior. Also of course player rating edits, which most people don't want to do because it affects career mode.

@bangus: ty for that. If I have more on this topic, I will take my discussion in a more appropriate thread. I feel like I've hijacked this thread and gone off-topic now :p but thank you!

Sure. But that's an example of why sharing ideas works better than sharing files. Supernova switched to 16 because he doesn't like the 18 game play. Whereas you like the 18 game play, and want to make 16 play like 18. I don't know what either of you consider good game play. So all I can do is explain to people what I did to make the games work from me. After that it's up to the other person to edit their game in whatever way works for them.
