DB Editing Tutorials, Tips and Tricks

No :(
I've made a video showing what I did in case anyone can see what I did wrong: https://streamable.com/m6wsj
Any help much appreciated

Ok, so right off the bat you've done it wrong. The squad file you need to open is the one called squads1 in the folder of the squad file converter. Not the original one that is in another folder.

It's like this...
- Take the save you want, make two copies. Call one squadsdefault and one squads1, pick the 'squads1' file in the squad files converter that you created. that's the file the db will be made from.
- Get that generated db and get the xml listed in the first post put them both in a folder in the DB Master 15 folder, call it "current edit" or something like that
- Use DB Master 15 to open the XML and then the db you created from the save
- This is where every table will have added false positives. I extract them all to another folder to keep them separate and call it 'clean tables'
- Then using excel I go table by table deleting all the false zero values at the bottom of each table and resaving
- I then make whatever edits I want because that's easier in excel
- Import them all back to DB Master 15 when you're done, save the db file
- Put the db file back into the folder with the squad file converter. When you click create squad file it will look for a db file and export a save with the original name belonging to it, 'squad1'

That's it. That's your edited squad file. The problem I have is that that worked great in December but I can't get it to work anymore for newer squad files. Don't know why, nothing is working for me. Really annoying. But regardless, that is the whole process.

Oh ok thanks :) I was just using the instructions which said 'any' file generated and that was the one I had in my settings folder?

bangus said:
1. Start with any squads save file generated via the in-game save feature.

Anyway I followed all your steps - thanks for those - and it worked! I tried to add a player but when I loaded up my game it said the squad file appears to be damaged :(

Is that the error you have?

Any file, sure. But then you must take that 'any' file through the same process I mentioned.
I'm fairly certain you can't create a player this way.

Hi everybody! Can someone inform me about something weird i found : I made some experiences on editing the teamplayerlinks table to transfer some players from a team to another one. Everything worked well for clubs and nationals but when i tried to modify a particular team "World IX" (in rest of world) the edits i made doesn't work. The players i tranfered in it doesn't appear and another thing is that it seems to pick random players in it. It happens only for that team. Can anyone explain me how this team work?

Thanks for all your help man :)

Basically I'm trying to add Arshavin, who is in the database (when viewed by Frosty Editor) but not the game. I've read elsewhere you can add players to the database using that method.

After edits, using SquadsConverter to recreate the squad file may sometimes give an error ingame if not done well. One simple methode to avoid that, is to export the database from frosty editor, make the changes using DB Master, reimport the database in frosty then launch the game using frosty. If you didn't make an error in your edits it should work.

To edit the database to add a new player for example "Arshavin",
1- open your db with DB Master,
2- go to "player" table
3- Copy the line of a player who is similar to arshavin.
4- paste it in a new line.
5- Change the "playerid" to the one you want as instance 147777 for arshavin
6- Go to "teamplayerlinks" table
7- Copy the last line
8- paste it in a new line
9- Change the "artificialkey" to the number following the artificialkey of the line you copied (for instance if the artificial key of the previous was 19445 then you put 19446)
10- Change the "playerid" like in point 5-
11- Change the "teamid" to the one you want to transfer your player (for example 111592 for free agents)
12- Go to "editplayersname" table
13- put in a new line the playerid of your player, his firstname, surname, jerseyname,...
14- Save
15- Reimport the database in frosty editor launch the game and enjoy!

i don't use squad file since it give sometimes issues. i always export and use the "fifa_ng_db" in frosty to make the edits i want.

But if you want to edit a squad file you got from the game, if think the only way to get the db file is to use SquadsConverter.

Yeah, the original post and this whole thread is about editing squad files. That's why we're talking about it. You can't edit things with players on their up to date teams by editing the original game db.

Yeah thanks @SAHKnight but I want the latest squads...

@tinpanalley thanks for all your help so far. I have a new problem now that is preventing me from doing anything. Whenever I make ANY edits I get 'Squads 1 appears to be damaged and cannot be used'. I decided to do some tests. I downloaded latest squads and then:
  • Moved that file into folder where my converter is and converted it into a db file and then extracted the squad file. I loaded it in FIFA and it worked - no error
  • Then I took the latest squad file and again put it in my converter folder and converted it into a db file. Then I loaded it up in DB Master, didn't make any changes, and saved it. Then extracted the squad file, tried to load it up in game and got the error message.
So even without making edits it gets damaged somehow. Any ideas?

The moment you go into db master having extracted a db you add false zero values to each table that will cause the file to no longer work. You have to get rid of those. Other than that, you're having the same experience as me. Unfortunately.

Sorry I should have mentioned I did do that as well. But didn't help :(

One thing I noticed is that the file size, after editing in DB Master, is never 4,871kb. All the files I've used that work are.

Did you replace the "squaddefault" file by the one you want to edit as bangus suggested?

Yeah, we're taking the squad file we want to edit, and creating two copies, and calling one "squads1" and the other "squadsdefault"

Okay, do you have mods installed when loading the squad file? Some mods make them "damaged" because aren't compatible.

sonaldo

Club Supporter
Yeah I just load vanilla FIFA when using squad files to eliminate the risk of mods causing a problem

Yeah so I do the following:
  • Download the latest squads in FIFA
  • Find that file in Windows
  • Make two copies of it (one 'squadsdefault' and one 'squads1')
  • Put both files in the folder where the converter is
  • Extract the db file (from 'squads1')
  • Open that file, and an xml file exported from Frosty, in DB Master
  • Make edits (or not) and save the file
  • Transfer that file back to the folder with the converter
  • Extract the squad file
  • Place that squad file into my FIFA settings folder so I can load it from the game
  • File is 'damaged'
EDIT: just seen your posts over on ModdingWay as well @tinpanalley. Seems we are having the same problem now so by logic others must be too. It's interesting your note about the re-ordering of the tables. May or may not have implications but could indicate some problem...

If we can get advice from experienced editors like @bangus or even @regularcat we may have a chance of solving it!

Here's the bottom line...
a db can come out of a squad file, go back into a new squad file and load fine. So at some point, the modification of data in a table, despite zero values being dealt with is causing problems. I still look with puzzlement at the one from December I edited that worked perfectly fine. Held side by side against recent squad files, they are identical, same tables, etc. But the tables are in a different order which someone told me was normal.
I however don't think there actually are that many people editing exactly what you and I are maybe editing in the tables, though. I'm sure others are playing with the tables, it could just be that they only do smaller operations, or they're editing the main game db using Frosty avoiding this problem altogether. Remember, in this thread which is supposedly about this very topic, there's been no consistent chatter since December. And that was mostly me asking about editing. Once people learned they could edit the game through Frosty they stopped using this. Just a thought.

I've done it mate!

The post in that thread of yours on ModdingWay helped:

thefifaaddict said:
Also updates in squads are kept in the teams, players, teamplayerlinks, dcplayernames, playerloans, previousteams and formations tables. Those are the important tables in a squad update, and sometimes new managers added to managers table.

As you know I wanted Arshavin in the game. Someone had already made him, and a load of other players, available in a squad file available here.

Before I was taking the lines relating to Arshavin in his DB and putting it in mine, but that only led to errors. Tonight I did the opposite: used his file but imported all the tables from the latest squads into the relevant tables as set out by thefifaaddict. And it worked!

Got Arshavin in the game now with the latest squads. That may help you?
