FIFA 19 Demo Impressions

Hi all,

I thought I would share my impressions of the demo in a clear concise manner.

Note: these are my initial thoughts -- might include more in the future

Positives;
  • Tactics are finally in the game properly and work! Each team plays differently. Juventus & Man Utd are hard to break down, Tottenham & Man City are open and expansive. In one game, I had to change my "players in the box" ratio because I kept being caught out on the break, nice to see that I had to do that in FIFA.
  • The headers all over the pitch are much more authentic & fluid (PES like)
  • Players are much more like their counterparts, example Sterling had pace, Kompany doesn't. This is the first FIFA where I have experienced this feeling of pace, dribbling ability, strength and balance.
  • Goalkeepers are not superhuman
Negatives;
  • It is VERY hard to break down the AI on legendary / hard to create chance in the final third. So much so, that the AI couldn't break me down either. I had 3 games in a row 0-0. I had to apply my latest FIFA 18 gameplay patch to rectify this, causing the AI to beat me 3 times in a row. 1 game Tottenham beat me 4-0 with some fantastic goals.
  • Graphics (Models & Textures, not animations) are still poor and players still look like "The Sims" characters
  • Champions League English commentary is AWFUL and painful to listen to. Worse than PES. Thank goodness, I would barely listen to it in a full-game (if I get it).
  • The AI still wont change their tactics. PES still wins on this and it wouldnt be hard for EA to implement something using their new feature in 19.
So there we are. I'm impressed by the Demo but it is leaving plenty of time for EA to mess it up by the full-game.

Thank you for this. I just played the demo and agree with most things you said. Sims characters is exactly what a lot of FIFA players look like. I just feel like the demo I played even in its stock mode isn't nearly as good as 18 is with good mods. I just have to try to find good updated rosters and uniforms.
Good points :)

No problem. The tactics is a nice change but I am finding it hard to justify £55-£60 for 1 new feature that no doubt EA will break by the full game. (Just like Individual tactics in previous games)

Also passing stats should play more role in the passing accuracy. It feels like I can pass accurately with any players right now.

I would tend to agree that its too accurate but at least the power of the passes is much better now. Mind you the pass accuracy % of each game has been around 79-84 which is much more realistic than FIFA 18.

I hate it!

Again, same those robotic moves of the players. Totally unnatural. I really don't know why is that hard to recreate a player's movement in a PC game (running, switching directions, etc). Last game with decent player movements was FIFA 11 :(

I haven't even thought about downloading the demo yet alone buying the game. The demo could be great and the retail release could be the most gratifying footy game you have ever played. Then FUT players chime in and your game goes to shit. I'm not buying into the bullshit.

If they decided to make movement, reactions and collisions perfectly accurate they would lose all their FUT players. Your dream is many other's dream but unfortunately that is all it will ever be. I hate to be so negative but EA have proved this too many times for me to be anything but negative.

This might be irrelevant, but does anyone know if there is a way to open FIFA 19 demo with cg file explorer 18?

But why should the FUT addicts be upset if EA makes better collisions and player movement? I don't get it, what is the catch here, they want a robotic game and gain what? If that is true then we are really hopeless. Maybe that's what EA can do at this point.
Anyway, these FUT addicts are a strange group I tell you but are bringing a lot of money for EA. Just yesterday a neighbor I know spent almost 200 Euros for fifa 19 plus some FUT points or something like that and lobby's his parents to sponsor him with another 100 Euros for more points....unbelievable! He spends 300 Euros from the beginning with many more to come during the life span of the game and we are spending 50 Euros once per year....there is no hope for EA to listen to us first.

The more realistic the game gets the less arcade like it becomes which is exactly what the FUT fans want. They want arcade like ping pong passing, super sprinting with OP finesse shots and headers.
