Do you know the "button layout code" of your gamepad? I mean the number assigned to each button. For example, Logitech Dual Action has:
1 = triangle (i.e. the top of the four, or the north one)
2 = circle (i.e. the right one)
3 = cross (i.e. the buttom one)
4 = square (i.e. the left one)
5, 6, 7, 8 = L1, R1, L1, L2
9 = select
10 = start

The original default config is 10 1 2 3 5 4 6 7 8 10 9 corresponding to:

menu, lob, pass, shot, trigger run, through pass, sprint, OTB, walk in the game. (the last two numbers 10 and 9 can be ignored)

So you need to know the button layout code and then follow the above order to reassign them. For my controller which has the same layout code as Logitech Dual Action, i can leave 5 6 7 8 unchanged and only change 1 2 3 4. But avoid repeating the numbers used except 10 (or your "menu" button code).

Thx. I'll try this. Hope it will be working.

I would like to ask something:

What happens with your other games? Changing the registry means that every other game that you have in your system is going to think that you have a Logitech USB Pad (or whatever you decided to replace the name). This also means probably (have not tested it) that utylities like profilers and button mapers (like Thrustmapper and others) are not going to work anymore becuase you suposed to be using a Logitech pad now.

Please answer this questions.

Don't missunderstand me folks, I think the work for finding a solution that gives us the oportunity to play the game with our "bastard" gamepads was great, but this should have never been like this, I am thinking very seriously in returning the game to the store, it is not only this issue, but some others that I am having with it. EA has just **** in our faces with all these issues that would have never existed in a descently terminated game (I am sure there are some very happy Fifa 2004 owners out there).

Thorz,

fair points. I find my Nostromo n45 pad profiler software no longer works, and while the basics work in other games, it's not configurable at all. Not acceptable. Will wait a while for another kind of fix or buy a new pad I suppose. Or wait for PES3 and buy a new pad then.

I have a MS SideWinder game pad, the regular old one, not USB..
I have patched the game succesfully, the game pad configuration works
After playing the game for a while, the game will kick me out to the menu and then my game pad no longer shows up. I can only use the keyboard.
Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do to fix this?

Something really strange has happened, I have seen (this has only happened onece) the Thrustmaster in the FIFA config menu, but I could not configure any buttons, I had to quit the game with ALT+TAB because I could not quit the "press a button" window after clicking with the mouse on one of the buttoons for configuring it. Damn! I don't know how to make it apear again!

I have a PS2 pad with the EMS2USB adapter. I'm not using the drivers that came with the pad but WinXP drivers which show up as "4 axis 16 button joystick"

I changed all the entries in the registry (just 2 of them) and as stated my control panel read "Logitech DualAction USB". I can now config the buttons from within Fifa2004. Unforunately I'm suffering the fate of many of the guys here in that the right analogue joy stick has it axis reversed or something to that effect.

Thanks for the advice. Shame it was needed in the first place.

The drivers don't have a profiler to change the axis of the right analogue stick.

Tried it, works nice... right stiick on my psx controller works this time! w0000t.

Though i couldnt map the keys, i had the option to but occasionally it would reset itself, so i just opened up the config.dat file and changed the defaults to what i wanted

secondly, the drivers im using for my usb converter are just the default ones in XP service pack 1, nothing special and even though the reg is changed the button mapper thingy for the driver still works so i dont know what your problems are. maybe u mispelled something?

I wish the drivers for the PS2 converter (A MP-8866 Dual USB) came with a profiler but it doesn't. I've been playing around with renaming my pad to different game pads, and its the same problem. There seems to be only one axis on the right analog stick, yet when I calibrate the pad in the driver, it has both axes. The DX utility u put up doesn't work with my OS.

I'm sure someone on this board has the same USB PS2 converter I have... maybe they have it working properly and could help me out. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. Has anybody figured this out yet?

In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\DirectInput\VID_0925&PID_8866 folder there is only 0 and 1

In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_0925&PID_8866\Axes folder there is only 0 1 2 6 the axes are labled X Y Z and Slider.

Checking the gamepad configuration through the Control Panels, both Analog sticks work just fine. This is very infuriating... can anyone help?

The word is "lost".

Okay guys, this is the situation:

I have a PSX to PC adapter (Super Dual Box, "MP-8866 Dual USB Joypad") which works great on every PC game I ever tried to play.
My first issue: When I went into "config.dat" file, I found:

"MP-8866 Dual USB Joypad" 12 "MP-8866 Dual USB Joypad" 12 4 3 2 7 1 8 5 6 9 10 11 12

That means my joystick is supported, correct?

Okay, I went into the game, tried to go to the gamepad configuration screen and it only says "Keyboard" I try to click, to page-up, page-down, whatever and cannot choose my gamepad!

Then I tought: "What the hell, I am going to do the regedit thing"

Went to the regedit.exe, Edit/Search, inputed: MP-8866 Dual USB Joypad.

And... Tada! Search completed, no matches found!

Does any of you guys has the same adaptor and have suffered the same problems?

Any answer will be very appreciated.

Thank you!
