PES3 is a let down

Read my post more closely. You'll see that I have mentioned a large number of changes from previous games.;)
Konami have kept the basic feel of the game the same to provide a feeling of continuity for long-time players of the series. The basic control patterns, the menus, etc. However they have made a lot of subtle changes to the gameplay that make it a challenge to play again. Besides, why fix what isn't broken? The gameplay is excellent, and really only needs a few minor tweaks here and there to make it resemble a real football match. It's as close as anyone has come, so IMO changing the 'feel' of the game is a poor option.

PES 3 is definetly the best football game out there!!!!!!! Nothing comes close. PES2/WE6 was already near perfection, and PES3 has achieved perfection.

so we don't need a PES4, do we? or what comes after perfection?

the game is very good, but there is still lots of room for improvement, in my opinion at least.

Perhaps it's just me, or maybe Konami have made a fundamental change to the shooting, or perhaps it's just more exaggerated now than it was before.

I feel that this is one area where Konami have fallen over. The time taken to line up for a shot and actually shoot is far too long when you compare it to the time a COM player can take to move into a position (from a relatively long distance) to block a shot.

Strikers want to line up perfectly and get everything just nice before shooting. In the real world it simply isn't like that, with reaction type shots making up a respectable percentage of goals!

However, it just needs tweaking as some of the gloss on these bits is amazing, like seeing a striker glance up at the goal as he receives a pass before taking a shot (Huygens does this really well :) )

hallelujah... at least one other person who has noticed that... when i started a "too many blocked shots" discussion a few days ago the fanboys said this was "nonsense", and "no, it's so realistic" and "it happens all the time.. just watch a real match"... well, watch a real match tomorrow and count how often a shot is blocked... (i am not saying it has to go in...)

It's so funny that very year when a new version comes out people claim it's so "realistic"...no matter how much the shooting engine has changed... in PES1 virtually no shot from just outside the box got blocked and most actually got in... "Realistic!".. in PES2 the magic blocking started.. "Realistic!"... this year the blocking is even more exaggerated.. "Realistic!"... next year Konami will maybe finally balance it out, but no matter how the result, i am sure someone will claim how "realistic" it all is, even if that meant that all previous versions are rendered "unrealistic" posthumously, so to say...

besides that, there is no doubt that the game has vastly improved. the biggest improvement for me is that the CPU does actually play combination football and not just blast pixel perfect passes upfield all the time as it did in PES2. the speed is still a tad too fast for my taste... but i am sure some find it "realistic"... ;-)

The delay between the human pressing the shoot but and the player actually preparing to shoot is unnaturally long and this delay does not occur when you pass the ball around in the middle of the pitch...only when you shoot. When the player does finally get round to kicking the ball, the actual backswing is also unaturally long. What makes it stand out more is that the players run around too fast anyway...then you press shoot and it's like slow-motion. AI defenders can often close down spaces of about 6 or 7 yards from the time you press shoot to the time the player actually kicks the ball. I see nothing realistic in that. I see it for what it is...a mechanism to make up for deficincies in the AI and to make sure you don't score too many goals. Currently, the AI simply isn't good enough to outwit a human so relies on these numerous tricks to give itself a better chance. It's a necessary evil.

Unfortunately, it detracts from the overall experience and also acts as a reminder that it's just a computer program.

Good points(display name) but as u said continuity, wont u get tired of that, from a diferent piont of view, with no stong changes in gameplay.cannt they revamp the entire engine, because we already know what to expect, and thats why I said it doenst differ
