I converted to PES from a die-hard FIFA fan....here's why

I just want to say first that I was a huge FIFA fan since 95. FIFA 98 and 2003 being my favourites. To me, games are all about realism, that's why i'm a sucker for the real names and licenses etc.

I waited what seemed an eternity for FIFA04, watching every video/screenshot as they were released, having to change my underwear everytime i finished watching them. By the time it was released, I had upgraded my pc to a 2ghz 9800 XT 768RAM JUST for FIFA (well, and Doom/HL2).

When i first played the game (demo/Full release), i loved it. The commentary was exceptional, the gameplay seemed more fluid and the graphics were awesome. But then i played it a bit more...
I finished a career mode and learned a few things about the game: It seems that the game gives you a set path, and if you don't take it....you will get slaughtered. I was sick of seeing the same long shots fly into the bottom corner. I was tired of being dispossessed 95% of the time by the last defender. I was dying from Ally Mccoist's commentary. And don't get me started on the User interface. Obviously these things could be patched, but after a while it seemed like there were 10 different patches and it felt like the game had been torn to shreds.

But at first, I thought there was no alternative as i was going to be damned before i started playing PES! The thought of it made me reach, as well as past experiences in playing previous versions. After i played the demo, i thought 'this isn't bad'. But some of the names are fake and so it just doesn't feel like real football. When I got given the full game, I played it a little bit and found that vs mode was particularly exciting with my bro's. It amazed me how each goal was different from the next. There was no set path to play in. The animations were more fluid then FIFA, and differrent skills could be executed using individual controls. Touches and flicks were esquisite, you had pure control over the players.

The fact that some of the players were still fake and the stadium names and ad boards etc were fake was eating me alive though. So i did a little research into the forums, and found Wolf's Evolution Patch. It fully updates rosters, flags, stadiums, kits, boots, referee kits, stadium names. The game is now as real as fifa with.........better gameplay (it has to be said, although i'd never thought i'd say it). The graphics are without a doubt more stunning than FIFA, pretty much proved in these screenshots http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89909

Champions league music can be added to the entrance scene when players come out the tunnel. You've never such a perfect blend of realism and pleasure in one cut scene.

Sadly, FIFA is now gathering dust and I can't help but think what i saw in the game before.

I know most of you will never convert as I know how i used to think, but just remember to keep an open mind :)

Well for starters...your in the wrong forum....try FIFA v PES Forum? And Ok...It was nice of you to right up a pointless 1000 word essay on why you dont like a video game, and why we should all listen to you.

the point of the thread is to try both. Don't just assume PES3 will be crap cos u hated the whole series. I despise the older PES games...

I think both are great. I prefer FIFA 2004 because it has the licenses and I can finally play 1st Division!

WTF how do you hate the older PES series while liking this version? Unless you mistook it for ISS because the playstation version of this game is anytime better than FIFA 2004 on any platform

yeah, every KCET game has been a FIFA killer thus far, the old KCET games are excellent...well ahead of their time...

Arni,

Quite true! I've been a FIFA player since its first incarnation on Sega Genesis. 98 and 2003 were indeed the best. Now I'm playing both FIFA 2004 and Winning Eleven 6 (7 isn't out in the US yet). I tend to lean towards WE, however, as the gameplay is wonderful! I cannot update anything but player names and numbers as I play on PS2. But that's fine with me!

I probably won't buy FIFA 2005.

I just play both games. I enjoy different aspects of each. PES3 is by no means the be all end all of gameplay, neither is FIFA. I play each for different aspects of the game.

Yes, but PES is less monotonous than FIFA...

So the normal thing to happen to those who play both, is that they start playing 70%-PES and 30%-FIFA....

Right now, my percentage is 98%-PES and 2%-FIFA (and decreasing)......

I think I'm not buying FIFA 2005..... I'll try the demo tho.... it's time for EA to provide some goods..... if they can't, maybe they should try a colabo with KCET....

haha I aint buyin fifa 2005 either. That is unless I play it and like it alot. But i had 2004 and traded that piece of crap in for like 15 dollars of store credit

frankly....
why would you buy both fifa and WE?
if you have so much money you should donate to kids somewhere in africa or something... u could make a huge difference instead of giving EA some incentive to further disgrace the most beautiful game on earth.
