Career Mode 2005 Thread

I love the career mode! I think it's good that you have to start with a club in a lower division. I mean...how real is it that a manager with no experience what so ever can take control over Arsenal the first he does.
I play with the english 3rd divison team Rochdale.

A tip...create yourself and let him (you) be the superstar of the team!

Once again, I love the career mode, great job EA!!

Zhariken your career updates RULE !!

Keep posting them, it's like I'm reading a proper report on a match, you make it interesting as hell. All the best this season as you are facing Seria A teams. Take care mate.

Could you do me one favor? Can you see if it is possible to start as Nationwide First Division teams (aka the Championship) in career mode?

I'm a diehard QPR fan, and I'd find it incredibly ironic that when we finally start having some success after years of pain and misery, I can't play with them in Fifa....

Sorry, you can only start with "Football League Two" teams :(

I had a great first season with Vitesse Arnhem from Holland, ending 2nd behind Ajax Amsterdam (my favourite squad!). Just added Bodor (Roda JC; great defender) and Aruna (Anderlecht; that's a low price top striker) to the squad and it worked like magic. Beating up Ajax in the Dutch Cup semi's with a 3-1 away, the final against Feyenoord was tough but won by penalties.

Woah, Woah, time out! ;)

Aruna is low price?? At my current financial state, Aruna would cost me 31,695 points to try and buy. I believe I earned around 10,000 in matches, and my top 3 players (when I started the career) combined to be worth around 32,000. My top players are now Heskey (19,796 to sell), Andreas Isaksson (15,296 to sell) and Balzaretti (10,801 to sell). How much do you earn per winning match? I really need to work on my financial team! :)

Thank you very much, I'll be sure to try and keep them going as I progress! :)

I really am terrified of AC Milan.

I think, if I don't get around to playing them tonight, I'll have nightmares of Shevy when I go to sleep.

goddamit... how the hell are QPR too big for someone to start out as...

unbelievable EA.

Although I would assume once I set them as my favorite team, and I do a good job for my first year, I would get their job offer as they are probably one of the smallest clubs in the "big leagues."

I have some questions I'd like answered, if possible, please...

- What choices do I have on what club to start with? I mean, what leagues and what teams are in my range for the first season?

-Will I be able to change the kits, if so, how? If I'm going to be coaching a team like Torino, let's say, I don't want the generic kit EA provides, I want to improve it and maybe get some new sponsors.

- How do I obtain new players?

- Is it possible to obtain a player like Carlos Tevez in your first season?

- How is it determined on what teams offer you the manager position? For example, in your 7th season how likely is it that a team like AC Milan or Barcelona will offer you a job?

- What happens to the players over the years? Do they just retire? Surely players like Fernando Hierro and Luis Figo would have to be gone by the 5th season...

- Do new players evolve? If so, are they real and how did EA manage to accomplish this?

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it if these questions can be answered. :)

edit: sorry if I sound really repetative, I'm sure these questions have been gone over many times before but as soon as this game is released I am buying it so I want to clear a few things up first.

Career mode is rubbish.

Reasons:

1) Points instead of cash. I won the fa cup and only got 200 points. In real life you get about 1 to 2 million pounds.
2) No player search screen, If i see a good player and he is then transfered you will have to search through all the teams just to find him.
3) Tactics are so basic. You can't even edit them. All you have is a couple of pre sets and some sliders. Also you cannot even place your places where they go on the pitch so no 3-3-4, christmas tree etc. This game has the worst tactics i have seen compared to sensible soccer, kick off, pes and even the old fifa games.
4) Celebration when you win the cup or league are poor.
5) Configuring the joypad is poor. How comes PES3 has a far better configurator than fifa. EA have been programming for the PC far longer , yet they can't even do a proper configurator for joypad. In PES you can configure each key for when you have the ball, and when you don't, in fifa you still have to use the same key for when you have and don't have the ball.
6) Practice is poor, what about examples of how to do each move in the game, showing what keys you press to do this.
7) No save replays.
8) How hard is it to add a music adder to the game, so that you can easily add your own tunes instead of the rubbish they have. This would save money.
9) You cannot even edit players stats.
10) Why is there a limit in years on the PC version. Why is it that more and more games are console limited (no extra features for pc)
11) Corners are just rubbish. You cannot even do a low pass to a player. They could at least offer an option of using the presets or manual like PES.
12) You can move the wall left and right but not forward or backwards.
13) Still no control on what players go up for corners, freekicks etc.
14) Refs are poor. I got 4 penalties in one game all commited by the goalie and yet the goalie never got a booking.
15) Why can't you challenge the goalie when they have the ball. Why was this feature removed.
16) Chipping the ball is like a balloon.
17) Transfer system is a joke. No swapping players, loans etc.
18) You cannot biew players stats during the game.
19) The other teams players are not mentioned or even displayed on screen.
20) You cannot view opponents tactics.
21) Sensibe soccers season mode is far better than this.

Even with all these problems the game will sell millions.

Even though i have mentioned PES i am not a PES fanboy. PES itself has many problems such as player response, few teams , playing on rails etc. The ideas i would add to PES is the player makes run button, manual pass.

Last of all, would it be possible to combine fifa and Total Club Manager. So that if you have both installed you can play the games using fifa 2005 and manage using tcm.

My exact same feelings about PES, though it does some things better than Fifa. Why dont those fan boys realize that what they say about Fifa may be true, they invalidate their opinions in my mind by ignoring the faults in PES/WE11.

Anyway some of what you say is over the top about Fifa 05, I am enjoying loads of things in it though it is far from perfect.

You don't get cash but points because this game is aimed toward children. Almost all of the people in this forum are teenagers under 18 y/o, so what did you expect ?.

why does getting cash matter? isnt it easier to use points instead of trying calculate how much money you will have left over when you buy someone? i wont mind the point system.

and why is everyone obsessed with short corners. i HATE short corners. 9 times out of 10, short corners never produce any goals in real life, so even if they were available i would never use them.

i agree on some of your points though, about not including a tutorial, but thats not a huge issue. most of your gripes are just that...gripes...but they arent going to make or break the game for me. the 15 year career mode is way longer than i will play. im thinking ill play maybe 4 or 5 seasons, and then just play the rest of the time online.

When can you go from being managar in for example Bury to be the new boss at Anfield, San Siro or Bernabeu ???

I got my job at ManU after 3 years (I had 2013 managerial points by the end of my 3rd yr). Note that I won the English Cup, CL, EPL, etc with Norwich :p which raised my pts by quite a bit... if you do it the right way (which I didn't) it may take you longer.

hope it helps.

Career mode is very hard to swallow

I've spend a lot of hours on career mode since I got the game, but I find it very hard to swallow.

On the good side, it works much better than last time, with the players getting grades after a match and showing the teams' happiness, etc. Not bad at all.

But the thing is, I have no choice but to start with a small team and only teams I'm really not interested in in real life - I don't mind not being able to start with Barcelona, Ajax, etc, but playing a whole season with Bristol Rovers or Sheffield Utd isn't exactly something I find very interesting.

But being really honest, there's one main problem that makes playing a whole season an ordeal:
The games themselves are so terrible boring......they are dull...nothing happens since 7 or 8 players of your team are completly static and don't move along when you press forward.

I already read this in a few reviews, and it's no ranting, but a real problem: When I attack, my defenders always stay near my own goal! My midfielders never press forward enough to support the fowards, except for the lonely winger that tries to move forward a bit.
So the gaps between my lines are far too big - as soon as my forward looses the ball the opponent can rush or pass forward all the way to my penalty box without ever seeing a midfielder.

I know for sure that EA did this to make the game happen at both goals, instead of going back and forth on the midfield all the time (like in real life - which is boring ofcourse).

But really, I've played all my career mode games for half a season with a few teams in different regions and no matter which system or tactic I use, it all ends up in the same unexciting, dull game.

I hope others will have fun with this game, cause I'm bored to death allready.

Sorry for being so negative, but it really spoiled all the fun of wanting to pick the game up again and play another game.

rork

PS And no, I'm not trying to be unreasonable nor do I like PES better (I hate the way players are stuck in PES - drives me insane!).
