Player Runs

On the PS2 it's not documented in the manual I believe, but they still work.

What does seem to be out is the direction option. Last year you could hold the L1 button and move the right stick to direct their runs.

It's not. On PC it's in for 100%, so it has to be in other versions too. When you play with the keyboard you have to hit Q for the player run.

"unfortunantely...the only way to control direction is through OTB"

Incorrect. By clicking player run button multiple times you can cycle through the directions the player runs in.. .. so short of using the second stick to completely control the run... this is perfectly good enough

Yep.. Danny is right.

The L1 button (PS2) triggerd the player runs. Hitting it multiple times will change the angle of the run the player makes.

Other than that, using OTB you can control the hilighted receiver with the RA and direct them.

Peace out...

Wow that is no good.

I mean great it's still possible but man, that is terrible implementation.

Last year if you quickly wanted the player run to be at your player with the ball you just hit L1 and pointed the right stick at your player with the ball.

Now you have to cycle click through the possible directions?

How many clicks to make the player come towards the ball?

Does it work like a clock moving clockwise? 1 click forward 2 clicks forward right 3 clicks right 4 clicks back and right, etc?

I guess I need to go to practice mode.

Wait lemme get this straight... soem of you used to use the analog joystick to direct player runs? Wow, you guys must be really good, everytime i have the ball the CPU closes down on me, I cant keep possession for too long, I can't imagine trying to control two players at once LOL. The automatic runs are just fine for me, OTB if I really must need precision control.

i don't think anyone actually "controls" two players.

I basically hold L2 and hit the analog with my thumb and the player makes the run in the direction I want, giving me another target.

It actually takes a split second for me...but that i bc I have it down pat.

I find it is most effective when ur 2 strikers are being idiots holding hands with the defenders. So I quickly hit the L2 and the analog back....and send the striker running back towards me away from the defender, giving me enough space to operate when I pass it into them.

So basically I have a few set plays to break defences where I use it. I sometimes send the striked on runs parallel to the line of defenders and then hit him on the run when he is exactly between two defenders and turn towards the net....breaks offside traps all the time.

I am now experimenting with overloading one side of the field, by sending the far wingers to the other side.

You bascically have to build up a repertoire of set plays using OTB in order to use it. Actually using on the fly and making innovating plays....well I think that is impossible. You have no time to think at the world class level, especially think for 2 players.

L2 is OTB though.

L1 is the solo player runs. Which were very nice last year when you could direct them with the right stick.

I tried and tried last night, clicking L1 multiple times does nothing.

L1 directs your player to run in only one direction.

Last year you could make your player run in at least 8 different directions.

Quite helpful.

Shame they made it less of a feature.

Guys, it is EXACTLY like fifa2004

you CAN control 2 players at the same time using only L1 trigger player run...
what you have to do is HOLD DOWN L1 and then you can control the person you initially pointed to with LEFT ANALOG. As you HOLD DOWN L1 at this point move that player in his run with RIGHT ANALOG... if you LET GO of L1 the player will continue his run in the last registered facing the player was running. That is why quick flicks of the RIGHT ANALOG with TAPPING L1 will register the new direction change as what Phantomphoenix does.

Hope this helps..

(just finished verifying this in FIFA 2005 PC practice mode)
