How do you get non-strikers to score

This is by far my biggest gripe with the game.

Its all about the strikers. Which puts a real downer on career mode if the only people that score (non setpieces) are the forwards.

Is there any solution for this. I have the Xbox. I wish I had a PC that could run this game because I know their will be a gameplay patch fixing this. I'm out of luck for the console.

this shouldnt really be a gripe...strikers are the people that score the most often...all you need to do is change your attack mentality (in tactics) to Attack...and use player runs and off the ball more to get your midfielders up...
you are not likely to get your defenders up supporting your strikers in reality so why in a simulation ?...it is making it more realistic when they are making it less likely for midfielders to score

Im having the same issue....Yes, I have the "Attack" mentality on, but the only players that I have ever scored a goal with, besides those from free kicks, are my 2 forwards....It's just close-to-impossible to get anywhere near the goal with a midfielder...

By the way, I am playing on Semi-Pro

This is a problem because its not as if the Forwards shouldn't score less but there is NO help from the midfield. And there is no chance that a defender could inch up to support the play. Its jsut get it to your forwards and shoot.

Not only that but 100% of all goals scored against you with the CPU are done by forwards. That's not realistic.

I like the way they've made strikers more powerful. In 2004 the majority of my goals were scored by central midfielders or by strikers charging in from the midfield. The new indepedent ball physics and first touch and tricks have made moves in the box possible, and headers are now effective. I can count the number of decent header goals I scored in 2004 on one hand. In 2005 my wingers have tapped in a few and so have my central midfielders, but most goals come from the midfielders feeding the strikers. And I think that's how it should be.

I've found this with most, if not ALL fifa games, but it is realistic because defenders do not score much in reality either.
The only times I've scored with defenders has been off of corners or after rebounds from corners.
For me, (playing Euro 2004) I scored 60% strikers, 38% midfielders, and 2% defenders

My new sigining Cambiasso netted a goal his first game. I played it up the midfield with him, and interchanged neatly with De Vries, a little one two, placing him neatly in the box unmarked and tapped it in.

I have yet to score with a defender, though that happens rarely in real life, and being only 6 games into my season I'm sure it will come eventually.

Either way, I find it realistic that my strikers do most of the finishing.

I wish you could choose the players that you wanted to come up in support for corners. That way, if you had a tall defenseman, like Sol Campbell, you could bring him into the box to try and score on the corner. Otherwise they should change the corner system altogether...

I completely agree. I'm playing with Chelsea pro level and am 23 games into the season and have only socred one goal from non strikers. And that was Lapmard from a free kick.

I've scored with wing backs and mids.

I play a 4-2-3-1

The front four get most of the goals...but the others chip in with the occasional one too also.

However, I am a pro with the OTB...so u see my players all over the place...;)

Defenders usually score from corner kicks, as they should be. I have yet to score from actual shots, their shooting sucks, and I don't bother because the CPU counter attacks very fast.

This comes back to the whole issue of rigid formations. The midfiled won't move out of midfield. They won't push up to support the strikers. I play 4-3-3 because that the only way I can get more than one person in the box at a time! It's impossible. You can run with your midifeld and press Q to get another one to run, but the second your strikers get the ball, they go back. And I have the mentality on Attack too. It also relates to the unrealistically big pitch size. The pitch is about 60-80feet too long (and if you don't believe me, most pitches are about 115 yards long, yet FIFA's is 136yards ie 60 feet longer. The pitch sizes do vary, but that is way outside the official boundaries). As a reuslt, everything spaces out, and this makes the gap between the midfield and strikers too big. On FIFA 04, the team all pushed up like in real life ie the defence stood at half way, so although to pitch was too big in 04 as well, it didn't matter so much. Now though, the defence stay well back, the midfield stay in midfield and the strikers stay right up front, causing massive gaps. If the pitch was smaller (and I'm trying to make it smaller, but nobody can be arsed to help me!), this wouldn't happen so much.

I agree... This is the major weakness of FIFA at the moment. That, and set pieces. EA have done well to get rid of some of the problems of FIFA over the past couple of years, but now it's time to get the tactical movement of teams right. No matter how much I use the off-the-ball buttons there just isn't enough movement forward from my midfielders. Apart from that and set pieces I can say that otherwise I'm generally happy with the gameplay.

:o Not kissing FIFA arse but I dislike PES' arcadishly small pitch, every match felt like Highbury. I like FIFA 2004 and 2005's bigger pitch, gives me more space to breathe. But I do envy PES' smarter teammates.

Absolutely !
In Fifa 2004, the team movement was better. The whole team was moving together.
They should have kept that feature from last year. I really liked those middlefield battles

Me too, I'm enjoying it.

I just thought I'd let you know that I played like 5 or 6 games tonight and scored about 6 or 7 goals with midfielders.

I'll take better, more realistic play by the computer over that anyday. The AI plays so much better in 2005.
