Rugby on TV in the USA?

Where on TV, in the US, can a guy get to see a rugby game?
I have been trying to learn this game, but because it is not a huge sport here yet, it is impossible to find a game on TV in California. Fox Sports World used to hook it up, but right now they're the Fox Soccer Channel. No rugby to be found. :f***:

Does anyone know of a cable/satellite channel that would show some games without having to buy pay-per-view? Does the BBC show sporting events?

Oh well, Im going to the USA 7s in LA tomorrow. That will have to do for now.:boohoo:

Well so much for the BBC. Some bright guy said "Hey, the yanks like crapppy sitcoms and game shows (which I guess is true to some extent) so lets make the BBC America channel where thats all there will be 24 hrs a day." So any sports that would be shown on the original BBC wouldn't be shown in the US. :f***:

When, oh when will Fox bring back Fox Sports World. By all means, keep the Fox Soccer Channel. But there needs to be an interntional Sports station in the US with more than soccer. I used to love to watch Rugby, Cricket, even curling (once in a very very long while). Sports that you normally wouldn't see in California. Unfortunatley, those days are gone. :(
I can't even watch european Hockey anymore, so now I get no Hockey because of the NHL lockout. :boohoo:

does that have any particular relevance to the question he asked? or is it just something you randomly decided to share?

No fellas. . . Just a frustrated rant. The sad truth is that after all of my searching, there is no channel in CA that broadcasts the awesome sport of Rugby anymore.
My frustration comes out of the fact that intead of showing a game here and there, even on an English based channel, they broadcast mindless drivel. The kind of shows that makes you want to pound your head against a brick wall over and over.
(oops. . . There I go again  )

Hey, if anyone finds a channel in the LA area with a game on it, shoot it my way! Thanks :)

Apparently, Fox soccer channel is showing the super 12 http://msn.foxsports.com/rugby/story/1641070
most of the kickoffs being at 2am

Although I'm not familiar with how you recieve certain channels in the US (i.e which ones are pay per view).

The 6 nations is finished now, but if you're desperate they've got highlights on the BBC website.

edit: You might want to take a look at this as well http://www.therugbychannel.com/

You can download some of the 6 nations games off torrents, if u search up "rugby" on torrentspy.com you can get some of the games. Rugby 2005 is out too, its a good buy from the shops.

You're Right!! :rockman: Finally, they're showing some games! My faith in TV sports channels is restored (almost). :amika: I just watched an Australian rugby game on FSC, eels v. sharks. Of course it was from last week, but who cares, its rugby. I haven't looked on FSC's site for about a month before today; imagine my suprise. Too bad I sometimes work the graveyard shift on Tuedays. I guess I'll just have to set my VCR.
Thanks for the heads-up fellas! :ewan:

Do you (or anyone else) know when EA Sports plans to release the PC version of Rugby 2005 in the US? The best answer I can find on the net is "in the spring". Not very specific. :nape:

I have your solution. I live in Canada. The city I live in though, has a big Yank influence on it though since it's right across from Detroit. Rugby and other sports used to be popular in Canada but the Yanks had to screw that up with American Idol, The OC, and all their other retarded shows.

You can watch Rugby on Dish Network if you have TV5 which is a French Channel you have to subscribe. They show soccer as well and they show all the European games mostly. You could also go and get Canadian Satellite, hook it up, subscribe to Rogers Sportsnet and The Score, and you'll be watching Ruby qualifying, World Cup, Super 12, Rugby News, Rugby Analysis, etc.

Funny how you like soccer, rugby, cricket, and hockey (I'm assuming it's Eis Hockey) just like me. I just don't like Curling though, but I do also like Lacrosse, F-1, Nascar, Badminton, Tennis, Euro Handball, and Basketball.

The only sport that I hate is baseball and American Football. In Canada, hating sports is a bad thing and I dislike people who aren't involved in sports in any way. You should at least watch the sport.

Some more good news, Rugby is gaining popularity in North America big time, especially in Canada.

Who was the idiot who said "I didn't know that they showed Rugby on TV"-it's the worlds 2nd most popular sport. In New Zealand and S. Africa, it's the favourite.

It seem that there'll be one day when American's forget about a thing called sports, and that'll be the saddest day of my life (I'm only 15 right now).

Hope it helped!

It's also the most popular sport in Wales (I know it isn't actually an independant country, but it does have it's own sports teams) and in a few parts of the UK, its actually more popular than soccer (In Northampton it gets twice the crowds.)

Incidently, do you play it or just watch?

wow rugby is taking off so much here in the USA that Fox Sports World changed its name to Fox Soccer Channel and practically removed all its rugby programming and handed it to setanta sports which you have to pay a monthly subscription to if you want to watch it, on top of the extra 12 dollars a month you have to pay to get FSC! rugby has no profile here in the US and as a Kiwi i think i can make that observation. for gods sake no one cares about soccer, so why would they give a stuff about sport which barely anyone else does? as for progress how about the us eagles getting thrashed 77-3 by wales? big progress has been made since the 2003 world cup i see. who was that geek who argued with me in that period who claimed that the rugby minnows would be getting stronger? fiji loses 91-0 to the all blacks. in 1987 they lost 74-13 to the ab's at the world cup. good to see 18 years have made such a difference.
