The hurting bit is from the dentist destroying the nerve. Just wait until the nerve is dead before you go. Your jaw will be 4 times the normal size (mine was) but the procedure won't hurt much.

My grandpa and uncle are both successful dentists, so I've had free dental for my whole life.......... and even though I haven't taken the greatest care of my teeth through my life (I'm way better now), I've never needed a serious procedure other than a few fillings. So the lesson is, if you go to the dentist every year, you'll be fine. Oh, and also sealings are a godsend, but not everyone gets free dental, so it's maybe not a realistic option.
