FIFA 06 Classic XI Revealed

I, as much as anyone, wanted FIFA to look to the past. I'm pretty disappointed with this set-up though. And not just because it's missing some of my favorites like Peter Schmeichel (that omission is inexcusable). There's simply too much soccer history, too many countries, too many clubs to sum them up in one starting XI, even with subs. There are so many better approaches: they could steal a page from NBA Live and select all-star teams by decade. Or, they could select the greatest players ever based on country. Who wouldn't want to play as a Brazil all-time XI? I'd love to get Pele, Garrincha, Socrates, and Ronaldo on the same field. The best option though would be to recreate specific legendary teams: i.e., Ajax of the early 70's, England 1966, Real Madrid of the 50's, Manchester United 1999, Denmark 1992, etc. Yes, licensing would be tricky but hell, throw in players with fake names, we can edit them this year.

This "Legendary XI" approach is a cop-out. Choices are too compromised based on trying to appeal to a variety of nations. If this is how it will be in the final form, I am bummed. It will be up to us to use the team creator to pull this off right.

I think they should make two or three classic teams 'cause one it's not enough for more all the great players in the history of Soccer

A "classic XI" will never be enough. What we need is a full retro game, with ALL the great players from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Will probably be difficult to get the licenses right, but probably cheaper than the "modern" licenses.

Who cares about Beckham, Totti, Henry and Ballack, if you can have Maradona, Pele, Di Stefano and Best instead?
