Freekick, need tips =)

Hei =)

I've played FIFA 06 for a long time now. The team I'm managing and playing is Milwall =P But I got some problems.
When I get freekick and I'm shooting, the shot is very bad. It's not hard, and the keeper saves the shot very easy every time. How can I make harder shots ? And how can I make the ball change direction in the air ? It's going straight to the goal.

And one more thing, how can I make good tricks to drible the players ?

P.S. Sorry for my bad english, but I'm from Norway =P

Me too, having difficulty to score in freekick situations. The ball goes soft, and there's no arrow or a target cursor that indicates where the ball will fly to. Actually for corners as well. I can control it to go left-right, but not up-down or adding spin.

Any hints?

Thanks! I'll try that =)
And I'm playing this game on a pc, so the advice with holding in L1 won't help me much, but Roony's advice was good!

Apparently holding the shift key and pressing the arrows will put curl on the ball but for some reason it doesn't work for me. I've had to try and work the free kicks with short passes.

You don't get any pointy indicators showing where the ball will go. Personally i like it like this as it is more realistic. However assume that when you are aiming, that the ball will travel in a straight line on your screen.

To add curl, you need to use the trick stick (Thats what i call it) not your movement stick. This will make your player sidestep, and the further to the side you go the more curl will be achieved. Takes a bit of practise to judge the required curl and aim.

Remember if you want to curl into the far corner you need to aim wide of the goal as the curl will bring the ball inwards.

Then you have to hit shoot, but you have to hit the sweet spot on the strike. This is quite hard, but once you get the timing right gets easier. The sweet spot is the little blue area on the power meter. The size of the blue sweet spot gets smaller depending how difficult the shot you are trying to make.

Practise a little, its quite fun, but also frustrating. Just remember though that in real life players don't score often from free kicks, so why should you in fifa........

Have fun.

Using the stick is fine if ur using a gamepad, but for those of us who use the keyboard the supposed way to do it is hold down shift and press either left or right. On my version of the game the shift key has no effect. When I do that it still only changes the direction of the kick.

People who use the keyboard need to get a gamepad... its just not worthwhile playing sports games on PC's since the turn of the century.

i know how you can curl the ball using keyboard.
1. Hold the shift+arrow key to adjust how much curl you want. The player will move according to how you will want to curl.
2. Use only the arrow keys(left, right,up or down) to adjust where you want to the ball.
3. Hit the blue bar.(try to hit the max of the blue bar)

I practiced free kicks for over an hour... I never scored once... I hit the post more than 50 times though...

I'll try adding spin, making the player sidestep like some of you suggested, but I thought it was really hard.

Kind of related:
On PK's I hate that my shots are very predictable and their keeper is always catching one or two, when I'm the keeper, then he's too lazy to move sometimes, I don't know why...

Is there a way to practice PKs?

EA have actually said that there is a bug that does not allow keyboard users to impart curl on the ball, something they "saw too late in their testing to do anything about."

How would you use it on there?

(on the top of the controller, from this angle, it is)
6 ---- 5
8 ---- 7
(if your holding it, it is)

7 ---- 8
5 ---- 6

And I think you can see the numbers otherwise

For FIFA 2003, the tricks were holding 6 and hitting the joystick

As you can see there is no trick stick, so is there a replacement for it?
