anyone noticed that when there's stoppage time and the computer has the ball, the time never ends?
On the 3* difficulty that I play, a lot of games ends while the CPU being in posession of the ball.

I tell him I got over my hangups about the game and that's why I progressed. And I thought long and hard about the stumbles after I went online and got my butt handed to me on a platter...numerous times..time after time. That's when I realised that the art of not stumbling, and how make people stumble...can be learned.
Can you explain the principles in this art.

Moreover, many times, u don't press R2 while shooting, because u want to shoot with the outer part of the player's favourite foot... only to find your player shooting the inner aspect of the wrong foot...

And MasterM.... seriously, FIFA? Listen man we can call Konami names... complain and bitch about their game... but compare it to Fifa? Not in a million years. EA is waaaay behind in the soccer business. And they just keep 'polishing' their games year after year. Unless they change the core of their scripted gameplay system, they will always lack the depth needed in a soccer game.

I am so looking forward to PES6... which is something a person shudn't say after only 1 month of playing PES5.

And what about the bloody injury spree? At least in ML and at least for me. Did you checked the screen I put in my ''cpu tryin' to kill mu team'' thread. 12 players injured, bloody hell, what have I done to deserve such a misery?! :boohoo:

Have any ideas how to prevent cpu from breaking legs to two of my players every match? And I mean AT LEAST two, it's been 6 or7 times already when 3 of my players got injured in one match and once there were even 4 killed so I had to play with one ''yellow crossed'' guy for a whole half. No more tactical substitutions for me cuz I have to save them all in case of another injury.

I dont believe in cheating.
It all depends to your teams strategy and tactics settings.

The cpu does not cheat, it just applies the same tactics options that you also have.

If you don't want your teammates to give away fouls, you can

1. set attack/defense to blue, so your defenders will position themselves near your own goal and attack opposite strikers rather late. They dont press but instead they try to close gaps and shield the ball. By this you are less vulnerable to counterattacks and fast throughballs. There is no point in trying hard to get ball posession, time is on your side when you're holding a lead.

2. set defense to line defense rather

3. tell each of your defenders and your defensive midfielder individually to not press immediately but rather to try and close gaps and shield the ball.

4. tell your midfielders to help out your defense. with less passing options for the opposition chances are worse to do decenct attacks forcing you or your teammates to give away fouls.

In general I experienced very good results in holding a lead with this 4-1-4-1 formation.

--O-O-O-O-- denfenders, set to line defense
------O----- defensive MF, set to shield the ball and close gaps.
--O-O-O-O-- midfielders, also set to shield the ball, this tightens the line formation.
------O----- striker

- If your opponent plays with 3 attackers you might want to mark the wing attackers with your wing defenders.
- Individually assign your 2 central MF's to play defensive
- Make sure to toggle the counterattack option through manual strategy settings. -Your wings should get offensive arrows. If they are fast you will get good counterattacks in, especially if the oppositions attack/defense is set to red. Make sure you have a fast striker with a strong physical condition and good heading abilities.

Pere, the things that are disucussed in this thread has nothing to do with tactics or skill you posses. The same applys to Snowy's responses.

The main concern is 1) physics engine which seems sluggish and unresponsive; 2) the scripting of the game that makes certain things happen at certain situations, mainly the issues with unability to control the players as you would want.

Tactics are a good thing, but you can't fight the bugs or blunders of the game with good tactics. They remain regardless.

Just because something is the best in its category doesn't mean you have to be satisfied with it. Video games nowadays are far from what they could be, regarding gameplay and AI, because people don't criticize enough. Because if you look well at the evolution of these two domains over the last one or two decades, there has been almost no evolution at all...

You want to control every man on the pitch? That's impossible, so Konami program an AI that may make a mistake or two just like a human controlled player would, you only notice the bad things that happen to you but you get a lot of luck down the other end that no-one notices.

Ok, seriously, this is killing me. The last 5 ******* games, I've lost/tied a game, because of an own goal, of a stupid PK, or because of a stupid play by a def im not even controlling.

Examples:

I'm 2-1 up against Charlton. 89th minute corner kick. The guy crosses it right into my keeper's hands. My keeper bounes the ball on the ground instead of catching it right away, one of my defenders runs into the ball and puts it into the goal. ******* GREAT. I tie 2-2.

I'm 1-0 against Newcastle. I tackle on the right flank, send the ball up to the CB. He stands still (not responding to my pressing of the run button) as their forward takes up the ball and puts it in. Great. I score another goal. 2-1. 70th minute, I tackle on the left flank, press pass FORWARD. My player instead passes it directly in the box. One of their forwards takes the ball, gets shoved (I was not pressing the pressure button), and concedes a PK. They equalize.

I'm f-ing tired of this $hit. Honestly. SINCE WHEN DO PLAYERS JUMP OVER THE BALL INSTEAD OF TRAPPING. WHO THE **** THOUGHT OF THIS??? Honestly. Have you EVER, EVER seen a player in real life get a through pass and do the ******* ball hop that the players in PES do every 2 minutes. Do you understand how many f-ng 1-on-1s I ruined because of that stupid goddamn move?

Oh, and um. If it's a cup final, you're up one goal, and its the 80th minute, your players SHOULD NOT get lazy. It just DOESN'T happen in real life. I'm sorry, but when my team becomes 5x ****tier and the opponent becomes 10x better, THAT IS NOT REALISTIC. I understand that teams try, but when you have team that hasn't won in the last 7 games and it's winning with 5 games to go, IT DOESN"T GIVE UP.

Give me a break.

This game is great on 3 stars, because then the CPU's stupidity makes up for the errors your players make. On 6 stars, every mistake counts. And when the mistakes that you make are not caused by your own stupidity, but by the awful flaws of the CPU, it pisses me off. It's exactly like PES 3. I scream at the game, because it gets me so pissed off. I rarely EVER yelled at PES 4.

No, I mean, I'll give you the fact that all in all, PES 5 is more realistic. But the bugs just drive me nuts. I can't play like this. I dropepd from 2nd to 7th place in the league, because my players decided to crap out all of a sudden. I have only lost one game this season due to my own incompetence. The rest were from own goals in the last 5 secs of the game. Way to f*cking go.

I'm actually thinking of trying FIFA out this year.

Realism has increased in a few aspects, but the game itself (against the CPU) is irrating and frustrating at times, simply because Konami's way of making the game harder is to make the human controlled players perform bad.

Try this...play a few games in a row on 6* with your ML team, and then use the same team against a friend. Ypu'll witness better passing, better finishing, better acceleration, better balance...less ackwardness.

Something else I noticed. The CPU will nick the ball away from you most of the time, but most of your challenges against a CPU player in posession end up in an ackward deflection of the ball. Add that to the fact that the CPU controlled team mates NEVER go for the ball, even if it's right besides them...

Other irritating things are
* the way the CPU ALWAYS closes down on the ball with 2-3 defenders during the whole 90 mins which ends up in 20+ fouls each game. It's mostly of game of avoiding being fouled instead of buidling up play.
* most of the fouls end up in loss of possession because you can't farking make a short pass to player near you
* the badly implemented advantage rule
* the way your players will jump over/let the ball pass by when your on the sidelines
* the way your keeper will run out and kick away a loose ball even if your defender is right by the ball
* all the times when you press pass/shoot but your player stumbles/forgets/ignores
* all the times when you press pass/shoot and your player makes a terrible reception of the ball kicking it away and stumbling, only to remember what you pressed later on when he is at an ackward angle for what you initially wanted to do
* the horrible finishing....a professional player with a low shot accuracy stat can still head/shoot the ball into an empty ball from within the box
* the general feeling of the being less in control of what your team is doing than previous versions (and it's getting worse on each version it seems...)

I wouldn't call all that cheating. Most of it are bugs, but I do believe that the game makes your players perform worse than their stats dictate on the harderst levels to make up for the AI's incompetency to perform better in terms of building up play.

In short...PES5's A.I. : Artificial = Yes , Intelligent = No :)

One more thing:

Did anybody notice that the finishing is horrendous in this game? I have a guy who has 90 shot accuracy, 90 shot technique and he CONSTANTLY (every game) misses shots from 2 yards out while facing the goal and having almost no pressure from the opponent.

This is just wrong. I have 20 goddamn chances a game, and my attack is NOT bad. It has GOOD stats. And yet, I miss almost every goddamn shot. At the same time, the CPU only needs one semi-decent chane to score a winner.

I actually find it rather easy to score, especially from out of the box. Most of my games are high scoring games. The shots go way too fast aswell in this verison of the game. Serisouly its like a rocket flying towards goal. Way too fast.
