Zoro in tears after fans’ racist insults

ROME: Messina’s African defender Marc Zoro was reduced to tears after being subjected to racial abuse by the visiting fans in Sunday’s Serie A match at home to Inter Milan.

The Cote d’Ivoire international was targeted when he went to collect the ball near the away supporters’ section and after a chorus of monkey chants he decided he would take no more part in the game.

Inter’s Brazilian striker Adriano went over to console Zoro before he broke down in tears.

Zoro’s teammates managed to then persuade him to play the remainder of the match and his decision was applauded by the Messina crowd.

Officials from the Italian football federation talked to Zoro about the incident after the match and the matter is likely to lead to an official enquiry.

Zoro said it was about time the Italian football authorities took a stand against the racists.

“I don’t want to become a celebrity, but I don’t accept it when people come to my home stadium and shout racist insults,” he said.

“I’m used to it when it happens away from home, but not here. These people don’t love the sport and they must understand we are not animals – I want respect.

“They travel many kilometres to come and see their team and then they give me this crap.”

Zoro explained why he decided to stay on the pitch.

“I picked up the ball and went over to the fourth official to try and get him to stop the match, but then I thought I couldn’t end the match this way,” he said.

“It was out of respect for my team and the Inter team that I decided to carry on.”

Last month, in an interview, Zoro said he constantly suffers racial insults.

“I have been playing in Italy for three years and I see this happening almost daily,” the 21-year-old said.

“All this makes me really sad. It’s not easy for me and it hurts. I don’t deserve this.”

On the first day of this season, Zoro was subjected to racial abuse by a large section of Lazio fans at the Olympic Stadium.

His anger almost boiled over at the final whistle and he had to be restrained by his teammates.

Afterwards Lazio president Claudio Lotito went into the Messina dressing room to apologise on behalf of his club.

In other matches on Sunday, Juventus restored their five-point lead after defeating Treviso 3-1.

AC Milan had closed the gap to two points with a last-gasp win over Lecce on Saturday but Juve responded to the pressure with a victory in Turin where they came from a goal down.

Third place Fiorentina's five-match winning run was ended but they managed to salvage a 1-1 draw at Roma while Ascoli drew 1-1 with Palermo and Siena played out a goalless draw with Reggina.

On Saturday at the San Siro, Filippo Inzaghi scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to give AC Milan a 2-1 home victory. – AFP

a question... what's the point to insult the black player? :nape:
damn...! if i was him... i will go to the dressing room immediately... :chew:

if he was insult because he made a stupid tackle & sumthing like that... i can accept... but when i watched it on tv... :nape: it's really dissapointing because 'these guys' still live in this new era.

one word to those who love to insult any players on field because of racism : STUPID :jambo:

It's nothing new when it comes to Inter. Their anger for having won **** in the last decade has to be somehow directed somewhere.

Happens all over... Mido was racially abused by West Ham fans. Happened in the Athletico Madrid - Espanyol game and all over Spain really.

Happens all over Italy also ... especially the smaller teams.

And no racism topic is complete without mentioning Real Madrid.

So this isn't about Inter. It has to stop all over... but it won't.

PS: All games in Italy will be delayed by 5 minutes to show support against Racism. Fining the clubs don't help. And fans can't be banned since theres going to be a few rotten apples everywhere. Not really sure what can be done.

pretty pathetic.

Forza Zoro.

reading these articles about the rascism in football is really bringing me sick to the stomach, i have had enough. The player can choose to ignore the fans, but imagine how hard that would be, it would have such an effect on how you play. Or you can run off the field, but this still means the fans have won by doing the monkey chants because its effecting the players, i really dont know any way to stop this from happening. If it was up to me i ban all fans entering their teams home games, i really cant see any other option, this has to stop.

LMAO It's was so strange not to find the words Real Madrid in this thread, coming from a Juve fan. And totally out of context BTW.

Recognize it, racism problem is way bigger in Italy than in Spain. Always been and allways will be.

out of context ? I was mentioning racism related incidents... hows that out of context ?

Just wanted to point out that this thread or issue shouldn't be about Inter Milan. Its about racism.

Whether it happens in Real Madrid or Ancona, its wrong, don't you agree ?

I just find it repulsive that Madrid have done nothing to combat racism. Being a symbol of Club Football, its their duty to do more than they have.

Nothings more shameful than a Champions league game with confederate flags all over and the monkey chants to go with it.

What is out of context is speaking of Real Madrid in a thread that speaks of a specific incident, more concretely in italian football. It seems a way to defend your league or something.

And I can tell you that most of the people in Spain hasn't got idea of what those confederate flags mean. Only the few retarded ultras that use it.

Just shut up faceNside. You're defending Real Madrid because you're a fan, but those other fans do not deserved to be defended by you, and a defense as paltry as "it's worse in Italy than in Spain" will never do anything except ignore the bigger issue. That issue of course is that this still happens at all anywhere. If it was up to me I'd disband and expell from FIFA Inter, Lazio, and any other club with fans that behave like this. And I'd have cameras installed in stadiums and only allow tickets to be purchased by credit card so if you are caught on camera doing a chant or making a gesture, you're gone forever, no warnings.

How i'm defending them if i'm calling them retarded. All that i'm saying is that is a problem of ultras, like in many other places, and Madrid social mass don't deserved to be pointed out in a special way over others.

phew... luckily Malaysian football never face this kind of problem...you know why?

because our football is crap.. :boohoo:

-----------------------------------------------------

BTW: i think that banning people from entering the stadium is always the last solution and it can't be done in every home game because it'll effect the clubs finance.

For me... if i notice somebody who is cheering racism chants to any players... i'll throw my bottle to him and ask the other to do the same thing :funny: :shades: lol... i'm joking..

Inter-Milan - The most over-rated team on the planet with the worst fans in the world. A deadly cocktail. They have never been the same since Arsenal tore them apart 5-1 in their own backyard........

sadly, nothing can ever be done with racism. Regardless of how hard someone tries, there will always be those who just feel that they have to hate coloured people.

Basically. Any team where the fans have been reported 3 times for racist behavoir should have all thier matches played behind closed doors for a whole year, and no away fans allowed. That'll teach the fans.

Just deduct points from teams. Simple, practical, and unfair, but it looks like the only option that might help the cause at the moment. You gotta bite where it hurts. The club doesnt have any fault or responsibility for their fans when it comes to racism, but from the moment you do that, when a fan sees another coming up with racist stuff, you'll see what happens.
