- Ronaldinho the Best - yet not a Legend?

There is no doubt that Ronaldinho is the best footballer in the world right now. Not only that but He is an amazing entertainer. He makes us smiles when we see him play. He is a Crack.

2006 looks like the year when Ronnie will become a legend, when he will be the best ever along side Maradona & Pele. He doesn't need to do anything new, he just have to continue doing what he already has done. He will guide Brazil to its 6th Championship and become a Inmortal, I know he will. But sadly I also know that people won't say he is Maradona & Peles level. So guys what do you think, what will it take him to become the a Legend?

thats a good question that Ive often wondered...
what would it take for Dinho to be alongside Pele and MAradona????
its a good quesion...

I reckon he makes an amazing run in the World Cup against England or something, then we'll all know.......

Here's the truth. He will never be considered at that level until he retires and we get to reflect on him in the past. We never really compare current players to legends, but when it's all said and done I think he'll be right up there with Maradona. It's hard to compare to Pele because Pele wasn't quite "Magic" from what I hear, he was just the greatest goal scorer of all time, not the playmaker.

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
I think most people will take him down as a legend if he truly takes the piss at the world cup as he does when he plays for Barcelona.

He won the WC 2002 trophy. He also won the Spanish La Liga too last season with Barcelona. A CL trophy is considered another complete-success in terms of becoming a legend. He will shine surely in the WC 2006.

I believe that the greatest legends are the ones who are so far above the crowd that nobody even comes close to them. Once someone is entrenched as "the greatest of all time" it becomes almost impossible to dislodge them. Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, eventually these people could be surpassed in their respective sports but at their time they were so totally dominant that nobody is ever really able to match that gap in ability. The same is true in football. The bottom line is that the level of players is so high these days that I think it's impossible for any man to be as revolutionary as Pele was. Players like Pele, Maradona, Wilt Chamberlain, Cy Young, and Ali become the greatest legends because they are quintessentialy different than the rest. Ronaldinho isn't really in that category. He's just better than everyone else right now. So Ronaldinho will be up there in the pantheon of football greats, but he won't reach Maradona and he certainly won't reach Pele.

I would say that Ronnie has done some things that nobody has ever seen before.

And some players have done what Ronnie hasn't done before. He is a great player of this generation, but not yet a legend.

In my opinion Ronaldinho is not yet up there with Ronaldo, Pele and Maradonna but maybe in a few years time he will be- the guy is special and i just hope he can prove it once again at the world cup

Whatever guys. Savor his career while you can. Someday you'll be telling your children or grandchildren that you saw him play.

whatever he does next won't erase what he's given to the world of football, all of his amazing talent and joy to play the game.

for me, he's already legendary :jambo:

Ronaldinho's been very good for, what, two seasons now? But who knows what happens in the future? In my opinion, Thierry Henry should be up amongst the legends when he retires. He's dominated the Premier League for many years now, and I definitely rate him as the best and most complete forward in the world today. Plus, he's won almost everything.

I mean you need more than a couple of good seasons to be a legend.

He's still has a long way to go, but he's quite young yet, so he has plenty of time, qualitty and attitude to become a legend.

He has a good attitude and is commited with the teams where he plays, that's important for succes. If he ever loses that, he will fail, like other great football players who will never become global legends.

in order for a player to become a legend he has not only to win things, and inspire not only the team, but aswell the fans, the country.

as somedoby said, people usually only become legends after they retired, becasue then you can see what's missing and what they really brought into the game. (you only cherrish it if you already lost it)

Ronalindho is great but it's still a long shot till I'd put him up there with the Peles, Maradonnas, Cruyffs, Beckenbauers, Platinis, Van Bastens and many many others.

IMO nowdays it's nearly impossible to become a legend.
the circumstances are totally diffrent now.
when Pele played, where there so many medias, cameras, was there so much attention, pressure to succed ?

I doubt it

Football has changed a lot since theys days - more athletic players and all that.

I mean when 30 years ago you were very quick you probably could have passed plenty of opponents, whereas today the opponents are quicker aswell and speed is not everything.

What actually I'm trying to say is, today being extrodiary talented usually isn't enough to become a legend nowdays , simply because the "big mass" of players are on a high level too, so therfore to stand out you really have to be on a highest level for a long time and aswell have lucky circumstances (scoring a wonder goal or an important one, dribble past the whole opponents etc)
