The "middle-shoot" feature is excellent, you'll love it, and also the new chip-shot function.

Can you elaborate a bit on these two things you mention? What are these and how do you do them?

middle-shoot, sounds very interesting.

I know there's a L1+Square high chip, and a Square+R1 low chip shot, what's the new one?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I find We9 to be superior in gameplay to We8. In We8 I could very easily beat any team, even Real with 14 to nothing scores, I could dance around the defence, and keep complete possession of the ball most of the time. You call that better?

err. that's because you've mastered the game. You can't seriously expect a game to be a challenge for you forever, can you? You will eventually master WE9 too. At least in WE8 the cpu actually tried to mount an attack once in a while. The CPU in PES5/WE9 is incapable of generating any offence. It really takes away from the realism when my keeper gets clean sheets 90% of the time during season/ML play.

The first one is called the controlled-shot. Certain players, like Gerard and Adriano, have the ability to make long, controlled, shots to the lower corners of the goal. In We9 you hold down the R2 button to make these shots, but it only works well with players that have that ability, and it takes practice to get them well.

The second aint as mush as new chip shot function, I don't know if this was on We8, correct me if I'm wrong, but now you can anticcipate the goalkeeper, and shot quickly over, or other ways around him, without trapping the ball, using super-cancel.

Just curious, what difficulty level do you play on?

I believe the discussion here is about the original ps2 version.

thanks for that. i wish i had time for all the mods and stuff but i'm a working dad with kids, you know?

question about the 'controlled shot' (R2) feature: i didn't find anything in the manual that indicates this is exclusive to players with a particular ability. what's the story on this?

Konami has once again outdone themselves. Im so glad I decided to make FIFA 2002 a permanent door stop 4 years ago and bought a real football game. Keep it up Konami.

amen. i think the new version is great. maybe it's not a quantam leap or anything (i guess we have to wait for the PS3 version for that) but the gameplay is deeper and even more realistic. cheers!

The R2 controlled shot feature isn't only for specific players.

yeah, i'm sure you're right. i've been using it to great effect, and i don't mean that suddenly i'm scoring a bunch of great goals. more like great shots met with great saves and general chaos in the box. pretty cool, actually.

Totally unenjoyable in my opinion. Right now the game's in the garbage can in a couple of pieces right next to fifa06. Complete waste of money.

that seems a bit harsh. for several matches i thought konami had made the game more difficult just for difficulty's sake. but the more i play the more i realize you have to think through every d*mn move. like everyone i was really frustrated with the frequency of fouls. but you just have to time the challenges better. you can really get stuck in if you watch for the cpu to show too much of the ball. i also keep a much closer eye on the radar and watch for space to open up ahead of the play. yeah, there's still some really frustrating quirks but i have yet to wish i was playing WE8 instead.

I think you're right. I was just very frustrated during the last post. Here I am playing it again. D*mn it Konami why do you have to make such addicting games?

I think is way better than PES5. It plays better IMO. Less Fouls and the gameplay feels more fluid.

I didnt try it online yet.

But 1 vs. 1 it feels better than PES5.

Cant find more reasons, but it has a better feeling when playing it..

i played 2-player cooperative with a friend last night. he's stuck with me since WE6, but never really got the hang of the game. we went on a rampage with Ajax, using a modified 3-4-3 that i have been working on for years. my friend was duly impressed. he said the new version is much more fluid and intuitive. we were opening up defenses left and right and, once i explained how to wait for the right moment to tackle or pressure the opposing players, we shut most attacks down cold before they developed into anything. it was brilliant. two thumbs up.

After playing many games.. I think WE9 sucks honestly... and I forgot how is the original WE9 (Jap) since I haven't played it for so long.. hopefuly this will change once WE10 comes out.

- the ref needs to chill. You can't even do a simple little thing he will call a foul.
- Konami need to improve passing it just feels somewhat unrealistic for the first time.
- balls get intercepted easily and through passes always finish up at your oponents legs.
