Say no more - our first red card of the season happens to be against our most honest and grafting player thanks to that thumb sucking oxygen thief.

Die.

The red cards were harsh last night. I think a yellow each would have been more than enough, then another yellow for Garcia for being as rotten sissy.

What I like about the whole incident, is that Benitez is complaining about it, and wants Garcia's red to be overturned... It was only a few months ago that he was fuming about the whole Robben incident that got the Liverpool keeper sent off, for the exact same thing, yet tries to defend his player of course on this one. Nothing will ever change if managers can't take a stand. Pathetic.

Benitez talks more crap than Mourinho (since Mourinho never speaks crap) but he gets off easier in the media.

I wouldn't be surprised if Garcia's red will be overturned, it is Liverpool after all
Generally Red cards are only overturned in the cases of mistaken identity, or if the referee meant to give a yellow and showed the wrong card (in other words, a complete misapplication of the Laws).

Howard Webb is relatively new at the Premier League level (second season i believe), so i doubt the FA will be seeking to undermine his abilities.

Can anyone tell us what actually happened? I don't know how i missed it...i was watching this game last night! It must have happened either in the first few minutes or around second half stoppage time when i fell asleep...

I'm pretty sure that's for yellows. Straight reds can be appealed against and overturned by the FA.

I based my comment on FIFA regulations. Of course the FA doesn't necessarily have to follow FIFA. But i know the FIFA regulations, and that's what they say.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ma....xml&sSheet=/sport/2005/08/17/ixsporttop.html

Below are the important bits:

The Football Association have been warned by Fifa that they cannot allow red cards to be downgraded to yellow based on video evidence if a player appeals.

...the policy the FA have been operating, which allows referees to change their mind after looking at video evidence and a system which enables players to appeal against wrongful dismissal, go against Fifa's disciplinary code.

Fifa regulations state that "any player dismissed from the field of play is to be automatically suspended from the next match. . . the obligatory suspension is to be enforced for both an indirect (two yellow cards) and direct (red card) dismissal."

Three years ago Fifa sent a circular to all 204 members reminding them that there was no right of appeal against a red card apart from in the case of mistaken identity. They also said that "the disciplinary bodies of the relevant competitions may not breach this binding instruction by passing exceptional rules".

Yet the FA effectively ignored this and allowed players to appeal against red cards, some of which were downgraded against the referee's wish.

In addition, yesterday's letter to Soho Square saw Fifa draw the FA's attention to Law Five of the Laws of the Game, which states that the decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play are final, and that the referee may only change a decision on realising that it is incorrect, or, at his discretion, on the advice of an assistant referee, provided that he has not restarted play.

Furthermore, Fifa also reminded the FA that a decision taken by a referee can only be rectified by the disciplinary committee if the referee mistakenly sent off the wrong player or made an obviously incorrect decision.

By that, Fifa are likely to mean that the match official was incorrect in law rather than a change of heart on his part after reviewing the incident. For games under the jurisdiction of Uefa and Fifa there is no right of appeal against dismissals.

on a positive note, at least some of their fans had the guts to admit it was the robben incident all over, besides mullins getting a hand to his open jaw. I guess the rest must have missed it painting 'Munich 58' on the walls of Old Trafford. Besides, Garcia is garbage anyway. They wont miss him in the final

Thats just crap. When we lost to Fulham and Charlton Rafa condemned the performance of his players, whereas whenever Chelsea lose its just simply the refs fault. Mourinho also thought Chelsea were the better team. Who are you kidding?

Anyway, stupid thing to do, but thankfully Garcia is our only diver.

you know what im saying, man. He knocked us out on that damn goal/nongoal, but that doesnt change the fact that he just isnt all that good, and really keeps his place on patchy form and the occasional goal.

its like if you slated Carlton Cole for being sh*t. I would defend him insofar as he plays for chelsea, but how much can i argue. Now Luis is better than carlton, but you see where im going

Its just annoying how Arjen Robben practically had his reputation ruined over the Reina incident, yet something just as blatant will get filed away as the NON INCIDENT it really is by the rest of the press. And of all things Benitez comes out to defend his player, not farsically ask if hes in the hospital. It just goes to show, Mourinho, Wenger, Ferguson, Benitez, Jol, all the same really. If you expect the truth, youre gonna get the company line.Thats why I have special admiration for guys like guys like Pearce, Ranieri, etc. Humility and the truth more often than not
