At least from listning the game by radio, the actions in 2nd half were quite even, at least in quantity. Its quite weird to say Australia played "negative" considering Buffon worked enough to get MoM . The penalty is that kind of thing one could discuss for eons; Neill (or was it Moore?) actually was in the path of Grosso and he hadn't hit the ball. Not a penalty IMO, and maybe a second-rate dive; Materazzi's red was completely unjustified however. No favouritism - but of course Aussies have full rights to moan...

I would say I got luck for not watching what seems to be a dull game, but then I thought Swiss - Ukraine would be any better :X .

Other than the long ball to Cahill Australia offered nothing in attack.

Well, I read a couple posts,,, and basically everything I expected. If you're gonna be a bunch of women, at least be original instead of just repeating the same thing over and over. I gotta give credit for the Dutch crybabies tho, who are so bitter about yesterdays loss, theyre bitching about the Italians.... but really have the fresh taste of that Portuguese defeat in their minds. Its OK guys, the next WC is only 4 years away.

Its the same case as always, Italy (or an Italian club) beats the underdog, and no matter what happened on the pitch, obviously the dirty Italian robbed the other team. Oh, and of course the other team DOMINATED despite Italy having all the real chances in the game,, but whatever, Australia is the underdog so obviously they DOMINATED. Just like the Milan-Lyon in CL, ppl ignored the fact that Milan outplayed Lyon, and said they robbed them. You guys really gotta start watching games, and not making opinions based on preconceived bias

I love how all of you keep repeating how Italy won because of the ref.... when if Australia won the game, the EXACT same thing could have been said. Even with the strict reffing standards of this world cup, Materazzi's foul was not a red at all. Wasnt the last man back, wasnt cleats up, and wasnt from behind. The only reason he was sent off was because the ref was a clown,,, and obviously knew of Materazzi's reputation. Italy had all the chances before the red card, and looked on their way to a victory and than went down a man and had to defend.

And for anybody saying Italy was too defensive,,, do me a favour and leave this soccer forum (or at least stick to the video game section) because you know NOTHINg about the game. Because being a man down, Lippi shouldve definately taken out a defender and put on a striker. Lippi outcoached Hiddink today.

If Grosso didnt get the PK, it wouldve been controversial either way. No matter how you look at it, two calls by the ref today decided the game. I just know that had Materazzi been shown the yellow he deserved, Italy wouldve won the game. So nobody was robbed.

watched the 2nd half only. Materazzi red card was absolute bull****, as happy as I was to see him off though. Aussies were relentless after that, constant possession, but couldn't get any solid chances on goal in the 92nd minute when Italy started attacking, I was like "well well they finally decide to attack"... and then the penalty. I honestly don't know what to think of that call, Neill went down early but he tried his best to get low and get out of the way... harsh call, very very harsh, but it wasn't incorrect. very unlucky Aussies, terrible way to go out

Iaquinta is a class stiker, very underrated. Knows how to make dummy runs, create space, great technical ability, he just lacks the composure in front of goal sometimes. Inzaghi is just scrap collector, but he has great composure in on net. I think lippi made the right call.

I finally saw something in Totti today, creative genuis. Del piero just lost the ball whenever he had it and created very little.

ok, australia were a man up for about half the game... they couldn't score. If you can't score with that advantage you don't deserve to win and atmost draw. You have to make the most your opportunities, like Italy did. That's what made the difference. Besides if Australia had won, people would say it was because Italy was a man down due to a fraudulent red card. Australia weren't cheated out of the world cup and that was basically what I was trying to say. The ref ****ed things up yes that's true, but that ref opened up a window for australia to go through before Italy even got such a chance and they simply didn't take advantage of it and it shut closed before they knew it. Neill commited himself way to early, Russo did the smart thing... maybe not the right thing but the smart thing. Australia asked for it in a way.
