Toronto to have highest season tickets sold in MLS(!)

:o . The record is currently 5000 per year by LA Galaxy (who average 15,000 people per game). Toronto already tied that and are planning on going 5500 by the end of the month :rockman:

This is insane since the Raptors (a very well established/popular team in Toronto <2nd biggest team in city>) have around 8000 season tickets sold (and usually sell out ACC for every game) :o :o

This is pretty insane. (Im not sure how many season tickets the Blue jays sell, but whatever..........the idea that "it wont stop at 5500" must be giving Maple Leaf Enterprise a multiple orgasm as we speak :p

ROSTER so far
D - Adam Braz (Canada)- lol, he's funny (looks like a bum when he plays)
M - Jim Brennan (Canada)- cool guy.
F - Edson Buddle (USA)- dont know much about him.
M - Jose Cancela (Uruguay/USA Green Card)- was mediocre in Uruguay but is killing it in the MLS. (glad he's here :D)
M - Rod Dyachenko (Russia/USA)
F - Nate Jaqua (USA)- Pretty good.
D - Ritchie Kotschau (USA)- Solid
M - Paulo Nagamura (Brazil)- Good player
M - Ronnie O'Brien (Ireland/USA)- Awesome
D - Chris Pozniak (Canada)- Decent
D - Marco Reda (Canada)- Decent

there's alot of buzz in the city for this. Im pretty excited too.

O'Brien from FC Dallas? When did this happen? Didn't they protect him from being picked up?

Just wait until the stadium is done, it's right in the heart of Toronto for those who don't know, so attendance should be amazing. I think the city has been starving for some professional soccer..

bigger as in "we have 6X bigger stadium and automatically the Raptors can never out sell us". + "We play 110 games a year"

The Raps have a much more "new gen" fan base compared to the Jays fans (many of the hardcore ones are the same guys who watched the 92-93 World series wins).
There are still the young fans who like Baseball (I used to LOVE baseball when I lived in Montreal as a kid for a few years>).

I don't know it's hard to say. Like Toronto is much more of a Basketball city than a Baseball city IMO. I seriously am not exagerating when I say this: But in all my years of living in Toronto (since 95 - grade 4), I have never........NOT ONCE.......met a Blue Jays fan (through High school and university now).

In fact at my university there are tuns of Raptors clubs and 0 Jays clubs.
Also on Facebook (which is the other MySpace) Raptor club has like 2000 (and there are like 15 of them) fans and the Jays club has 54 (and there are like 2)

All the time you hear about the Raps ....the raps this , the raps that. Even in last place people pack up the ACC , while before the Jays started winning this year: they had that 1$ games for 1 week 2 years ago and something like 1,500 people showed up (i think it was less).

But this might be "biased stats" (though these are facts, there are also many things that can go in the Jay's favour which I dont know about ..........and I hope someone here can shed light on.)

If anyone knows what the ratings are per age demographic........can they post it here?

Jays average attendance last season was around 28k and Raptors attandance was around 18k. Even for all the love that the Raptors are getting, i doubt that they would be able to fill up a 30k seater. You are right though that most Raptors fans are the new generation, while most Blue Jays fans are the old generation, when Toronoto didn't even have a team. However, because the old generation is pretty much the baby boomers, there is more of them, that's why there is still a lot of Jays fans.

The good sign though is that the baseball rings are barely used now in schools, while you see kids wearing the Raptors jerseys all over the place. No, disrespect to baseball fans, i just think it's way too boring of a sport, how can americans even call soccer boring?

But yeah, in the future, Raptors will be behind Leafs for sure, not yet though

I remember going to a Jays game last year and everyone around my was average 40 years old or more.

Also this year's Jays had the best attendance in years (28K is like their all time high for the decade.........or even go back to 96-97).

Im sure if you gave ACC 10K more the Raps would fill it (the Leafs obviously would without even thinking about it.)

Yeah maybe, that's beside the point anyways. The most important thing is that we gonna have an MLS team right near our home!!!!!!!! Going to definietly help the development of Canadian soccer at all levers starting from high school all the way to the national team.

well you gotta think about that, the Skydome... er, "Roger's Center" seats like 60,000, so its only 50% full, while the Raps get like 18,000 a game in a 21,000 (?) stadium... I'm sure if the Raptors had a 30,000 stadium they wouldn't fill it up though, unless they finally start making some sort of playoff run :(

so I just read BMO Field will be finished by mid-may 2007? just in time for the start of the MLS season, but then I also read that we wont be able to play at home for the first month of the season, not sure what's fact. just cant wait though, I hope I can get tickets to the home opener, hopefully they wont sellout too quickly

Mark, they actually just signed him now (its on 1 of the USL sites). It doesnt say what team..........but on the Bigsoccer board 1 of the guys's best friend is Sutton's relative and he posted that officially he's with Toronto now :D

I've always liked Sutton, he really impressed me in the Gold Cup.
