Bad things about fifa 08

Well I dont know about yall but the harder the game the better. I like this new fifa a lot and Ive been playing PES for the last 5 years.

I find it humorous that people are complaining about the game being too difficult. Don't you want a challenge? However, some of the various points made are good ones. The CPU does score lame goals off post deflections and to much of its attack is down the middle. I also agree that the pitch is too big. Sound familiar? Some of the same gameplay problems are still there. But overall, it's still an improvement and I still enjoy playing. I play both FIFA and PES anyway. My favorite part of FIFA is manager mode and I think this is a bit better than master league PES. Although, I prefer the unlimited number of master league seasons to FIFAs limited number. PES, IMHO, still has the edge in gameplay.

There should be a thread for 'What stinks in this year's fifa' because every year, we can hear millions of complaining.

Like any fifa since 2004, it's natural, it sucks.
The things what i don't like in this year's fifa is..

- Like someone said before, there is a clear disadvantage. The CPU's players can tackle me so easy, it simply makes us laugh. For example which was already mentioned, the cpu kicks our player and by surprise, the ball lands in front of the opponent.

- When i have the ball, i can pass so beautifully sometimes, neatly playing against the CPU it can't even touch the ball, but after 8-9 passes, one of my players passes simply to the opponent.Playing nice and all, and suddenly a pass which is unbelievable.

- Of course, CPU's lame goals.
- Shoots from 30 meters, my keeper punches the ball, and by surprise, the ball bounces to the opponent striker, who has no problem passing the ball in goal.
- Sure 1-2 of these goals happen 3-4 times in a team's season. But in every single game 3-4 times?Come on...
- The CPU blasts a gigantic shot, when it reaches my box, it is already at 2 km/h and the ball rolls past my goalie who's reaction time makes the usual fifa fan destroy his pc.

- The thing i really hate about this FIFA 08, when i lose the ball, the cpu starts passing..I can't even break his leg when i try a sliding tackle, can't tackle the cpu because it passes the ball so easily.I just chase it, but when i really get annoyed about it, i simply leave the pc for about a minute to play, it probably loses the ball by that time.

I could go on but i only got these in my mind

And of course, we want a more challenging game, but this is not challenging, it's stupid...
And a game is not a challenge just because the cpu has such advantages. That makes it really s_ck

lolz.... I mainly play against friends so am not going to whine about what the CPU does.. I dont think EA can be bothered to create such a complex AI as people are pining for here... there are ALOT of peopel who play this game for some quick fun, not because its complex or challenging. As a result, the harder difficulties are coded with some very blunt AI that gives the PC some very distinct and uneven advantages. I dont think PES is hugely different.

Maybe one day in the future, theyll work on the AI a bit more, in the interim.... like it or lump it :D

I have noticed the off the ball defenders are a *little* bit better at sticking to their men... little bit, but not alot :p

no matter.... its always fun to play against mates, especially as my fave teams, CimBom and Barca ;)

Ive been playing fifa since the genesis(mega drive), to think how far its come along is amazing.

No disrespect guys but although I agree with most of what being said here all in all I disagree big time.

Gameplay is the best FIFA had produced to date! Maybe you are all frustrated because you are not producing, well, to me thats a challenge! Practice makes perfect!

Most of you out here are very limited players... I see that when I play you online! You keep doing same thing over and over.. Thats not going to work against the CPU. You have to be smart and look at the entire pitch. When you pass try to think and see at least 2 steps ahead.

I'm not saying that I'm the FIFA 08 champion but I know how most of you guys play online. If you play like that against CPU i can see why you would be frustrated.

Listen, I play with FC Groningen, a very mediocre team at best. During transfer season I updated the defense and keeper and now I not doing bad! When I get scored on, its because I do a stupid mistake becasue the CPU did magic on me... On "D" don't try to go for the steal each time, thats how the CPU will trick you...

Check out my related post.. It has to do with how this game is losing ground among modders and enthusiasts alike

I think that you should perhaps take more than a minute to relax. ;) It's just a game.

Like it or not most if not all games rely on the CPU having advantages. AI programming simply has not reached a high enough level. PES is also this way but it's a bit more elegant. I do understand your frustrations however.

To me, they didn't so much make it harder as just less fun. The game is just much less fluid and free than '07 was on the PC, and there are maddening things like not ever being able to turn an opponent(meaning if you are dribbling and get a couple of steps on him, he can still tackle you just as easily as if you ran right into him) and thus only really being able to use the dribble effectively on the wings and with the trick stick. Also, the AI's ability to just dribble right through the defense even on the easier levels, etc. Aftertouch also seems a lot dodgier. Ball control in general is just crap even with the best players and on easier difficulty levels. I think maybe they heard the complaints about the game being too easy and not realistic enough, and instead of really fixing the AI so that it would play smarter and be harder to beat, they just hamstrung the player and gave the AI a couple of fairly obvious and awkwardly-implemented advantages.

I'm sure if I slogged away at it and learned to deal with the changes I could play just about as well as I used to, but why bother when there is nothing much else added to make the game better than the previous version? I'm pretty sure I'm staying with modded '07 unless gameplay mods for '08 come out that fix some of this, and roster and graphics mods that are as good and extensive and high quality as those for '07 come out too.

I haven't red all the post (duh...!) but personally, the complains that i have are these:

1.The thing that bothered all of us,that it's almost the same with last year

2.All the effort went to ps3 and x-box and just to prevent some ppl from making a stupid reply about this:I don't mind the CG graphics so much...How about the new tricks though? Can't a pc handle some new tricks...??It's not about graphics after all...! :B

3.Even more bugs than last year.Now plenty of times the chants are random.There's a weird bug that sometimes happens in throw-in.(maybe i should post that since i have a couple of replays.we'll see) An even more rare bug where all the players of the one team appear outside of the field... xP The commentator bug. The replay bug and i bet that there are lots more... -_-;

4.That we can't edit it as much as we could edit 07.I know it's been writed again in here but i thought to write it again. :P

Last year i thought that EA made so many errors just to publish the game along with PES etc but this year they showed us that they just don't give a damn.So................i just coppied the stupid game. xD
They'll get my money when they'll put some real effort... :B

Now that I've had a chance to play the game a bit more I've had the realization that the biggest issue with Fifa 08 is that there doesn't seem to be a difference in skill between any of the teams or players. I can play with a top club against some obscure lower league team and the lesser team will play just as well as any quality side. That just doesn't make any sense. Sure, a crap side can have a lucky day against a class side but that's rare. On the same note, a player such as Nugent plays just as well as Henry. That's just ridiculous. Also, none of the players seem to have a unique feel like they do in PES.

Play fifa07 much? because its exactly the same. I remember getting beat by League 2 sides in the cups on a regular basis with my Bolton side.

Now that I have played 10 games or so, I will add to this thread. My first impression of the game, like many of you, was that it was **** and I was ready to uninstall.. but I stuck with it and I have since gotten used to the CPU and the way it plays.

There is a heavy emphasis on defending, at least if you dont want to lose. Most of the time I have all 11 behind the ball when the CPU is doing its little passing routines. Best way to gain possession is to wait for them to screw up or to bide your time and then tackle a player who receives a pass.

Things that are irritating me thus far:

1) CPU dribbling through my entire midfield and back 4. This is ridiculous. CPU will have lone striker and he just goes right through my tackles. Man marking helps to break this up but its still infuriating. I would say 80% of the goals CPU scores against me come straight through the line down the middle and beat the keeper low to either side.

2) The other 20% of CPU's goals are cheap tap ins from parrys directly to CPU forwards. Typical FIFA I can live with it.

3) The accuracy of the "manual" through ball, lob, and crosses is atrocious. I use a PS2 dualshock and I know the controllers arent perfect but crosses end up behind the forwards quite often and through balls go all over the place, maybe 25% accurate. Perhaps I need to "adapt" more.

4) Trick stick works but seems harder to use. In any case I dont use it much. Dribbling past or through CPU defenders is near impossible. As a result the user is forced to do alot of one-touch passing which while nice, does get a little repetitive.

5) User AI runs are awful, like prior FIFA's. Once in a blue moon the user AI will run to a useful position, but not often.

6) Team "mentality" in the 'attacking' mode still leaves most of your players far, far behind the ball. Same as FIFA07.

7) Still no customizable formations, and less preset ones than last year. Bravo EA.

Other than that I really have no complaints! (Y) but Im gonna keep playing and see where it goes.

"Still no customizable formations, and less preset ones than last year"

There are customizable formations in Fifa 08. less presets per team. Seems like each team as a set number of presets and they vary from team to team just like in real life.

But you can make your own formations.

Really?? wow i tried when i saw the 'teamname' formation that looked odd compared to the rest but couldnt figure it out.

i'll give it another go. thanks for the heads up man!

Yeah, but you can't create them in manager mode. You have to create them before and assign them to a team. Than start manager mode and they should be there.

Another "briliant" idea from EA but better than nothing.

Yep. Just created 2 custom formations and then couldnt use them in my existing manager mode. Absolutely useless. I guess I will start over since I only just finished preseason (for the 3rd time now).

Thanks again you guys.

Just drop down a level guys till you master it, but I think this is the best footie game I have ever played. I will be looking at PES this weekend but most the reports I have heard is that it is pretty much the same as the last 3 years. Fifa 08 is not the same as 07 no way!
