omg, 07 was too easy and now 08 is too hard... as it turns out you have to actually time challenges to win the ball... you have to stay on your feet... you have to beat keepers instead of just knocking the cover off the ball and watching it sail in... you need to keep your shape... you need to be patient...
for mine, 08 = better sim than 07 and unfortunately for PES, i'm not real keen on playing without the fun of a semi-realistic manager mode.
i do feel sorry for the kids though that just want to play the odd game cos it's too tricky to just pick up a controller and expect to win your 1st game even on amateur...
Bring on the mods to make it more visually impressive than 07 and i'll be happy...

complain complain complain, i sucked at 07 cuz it was hard, i sucked at 08 cuz it was hard, and i suck at PES cuz it is hard. so what am i gonna do? I guess ill just have to quit at life and commit suicide or something.

At first i really hated fifa 08 but then after some graphic tweaks now i reckon it looks pretty alright! and it definitely looks better than 07. I play in the Veltins Arena with my custom club of Australia FC and when i look afar it almost looks exactly like a real match during the world cup! this is opposed to pes which always looks like its in an indoor arena.
Also, i really think that this fifa is the most realistic so far in terms of gameplay. I had found the weakness in fifa 07 where i could just keep scoring goals by going around the wing and to the side of the goals because there were never any players blocking that area so i could easily win a game using a 3 star team against teams like barcelona. Now this fifa 08 game actually requires me to think about my tactics and use my own intelligence to actually score goals just like in real life. I have managed to score goals even using World class mode with world class keeper - its not too hard - just requires some persistence. The first time i played was using Australia against Argentina and scored twice with Mark Viduka but ended up losing the game 3-2.
Now ive started practicing playing friendlies using my custom made Australia FC team (which is made up of the best under 21yo young aussies from a-league teams) against barcelona and arsenal just so i can get good at the game. I have managed to score a goal against barcelona every time i play but always lose 3-1 obviously. Ive played very impressively against Arsenal and the last two games i have scored first but then they came back to win 2-1. These are all 20 minute games.
Now i just gotta learn how to score heaps of goals against lower rated teams because games against sunderland, sydney fc, and even lower divisional teams usually end 0-0.

i just pumped spurs 3-0 with notts forest on semi-pro.
You have to really dominate a game to beat a better side as they will take every chance they get while you're left fluffing everything.
Things to note if your complaint stems from having trouble scoring, to shoot wide of the keeper (to beat him) in 1 on 1 situations you need either hit it harder than you would've in 07, or you need to take him 1 way before finishing the other (ie diagonal running, a trick on the edge of the box, a change of direction or a dummy).

It is not the gameplay that is bad in Fifa08, it's about everything else.
The biggest complaint is the fifa.fat limitation of 265kb that screws editing hard. And yes, I know, there is a workaround by putting everything in the root folder, but the more you put there the more a memory hog the game becomes, because it has to load everything there first before it starts to load the stuff in the zdatas. So if you want something like 350 stadiums and 300 new teams like I have in 07, then you're ready to watch a slide-show.
It's not worth the effort editing because there's a brick wall (the fifa.fat) and nothing and surely not the slightly microscopic better 2GF faces doesn't justify that change.
I'm just waiting for a kit convertor from 08 to 07 so I can still update that game and I'm waiting for 09 or 2010 for a real change.

In my opinion fifa07 fully patched is 1000x bettter than fifa 08 without any patch.
If we compare the two games without any patches i agree that fifa 08 is better.
I won´t buy fifa08 because i like much more my fully patched fifa 07.
With NK gameplay, CEP, realistic stadiums, flags, logos, faces for all teams, chants,roster updated i have everything i want.
unfortonatly I doubt that EA can make a good game without the need of patches made by the community in the next years.
I haven´t played any carreer mode in fifa 07 becuase of the quantity of new updates coming every day but finally i can now play a complete soccer game.
About the kit converter 08 to 07 it probably won´t happen but i have made some experiences and i is possible to manually convert a kit from 08 and they look good. I am having some troubles with some parts but that´s because i am not a kitmaker. I am sure that a good kitmaker can convert a fifa 08 kit into 07 into 10 mimutes.
Also i am made some research in the fifa08 db. I need to to some tests first but maybe i found a good way to install fifa 08 rosters into fifa07.
PS: Can you send to me your C1 and C2 flags please? I want to start a carreer with a Serie C team

I have to agree with the original poster, even though i take great joy in reading peoples complaints with FIFA 08, i have to say 90% of them are valid, apart from the Opposition GK being too hard, i think its perfect, now i dont expect to score every chance, which is good.
Ive said in 2-3 posts that my main hate of fifa 08 is team AI on both sides, i think if the EA team that made FIFA 08 was to make a war game, your side would have knives and pistols while the enemy were behind fortified walls with rockets grenades and F14's periodically bombing the living bejesus out of you.
And yes, i feel Patched FIFA 07 pwns original FIFA 08, but still, FIFA 08 has some really nice features i think improve it from FIFA 07, I think (personally) the 'be a pro' mode gets kinda thin after a while, id love to see these kind of matches online though. Would be awesome to see 11v11 online games, be also cool as hell to see real life matches and a real life player transfer market. MMOF anyone?
I also just wish the annoyed people will stop saying 'FFS get a PS3 or an XBOX 360' I dont want a PS3 or XBOX 360, and certainly not for FIFA 08. I love PC games for the Modding potential.

And about fifa 08: i like the fact that it is harder than 07 BUT in 08 it is no fun when:
- the PC always wins contrasts
- the pc defenders always run faster than your forward (even if he's Cristiano Ronaldo)
- the pc players always can dribble 3-4 of your defenders without being touched
- the through-balls go never through
- 98% of the chip shots go over the bar or are taken by the keeper
- the keeper saves everything
- your forward misses the easiest goals even when alone in front of the goal keeper
- 90% of the shots, even by the best strikers, are too high, too central, on the post or out of target, whilst the score ratio (goals/shots) of the PC is 80%
- the PC in 85% of the cases scores at the 90' minute and you can't do anything about it.
- the skillmoves are useless and in 99% of the cases you loose the ball by using them.
For the rest is a good game.....

- In PES the linesmen are actually doing something, but in FIFA they just stand there with their flag
- Menus seem to react a little bit slowly, sometimes I have to press a few times. Anyone else feeling the same?

Not sure since I don't play Fifa08 but in 07 this can happen when you have too much background services running in windows. Shut down the antivirus services, spamfilter, any services for devices you don't need while playing and this should improve a lot. Restart all necessary services when you're done playing, for easy management of windows services I recommend Process Explorer program, it's freeware and it's very convenient, not only for gaming.
