The tall one is Franco Di Santo ;)

Diego reminds me of Zola, their size and all.....but massive talent to go with it.....
Di Santo is 6'4" and Diego is 5'5" i think.....

good win against Reading, we've created a lot of chances, SWP and J.Cole were decent, Anelka could've scored, but I'll settle for the win....
didn't expect Ballack to start tho so soon, i guess good judgment from Avram, it paid off....
Its definitely between us, Manc Reds, and the Arse for the title.....the Kop lost against West Ham, that puts them and the rest of the pack behind further down in the table if you look at the points difference between the top 3 and 4th place downwards....

Zakov

Senior Squad
1-1 against Portsmouth, have to say we had our chances to win but just couldn't get the result we wanted, a definite blow to our title hopes since Arse won against City, but the good news is that Spurs drew with Utd, so not all lost there.....Ben Haim was woeful on the Defoe goal, he lost the man he was marking, can't wait for Carvalho to come back, with Ben Haim, we're more prone to conceding goals i must say

Nettles

sush you, leave our team alone...just because they don't have chemistry. take your anger out on them using your fifa video game or whatever.

anyways, we can at least get 2nd place I think, goal is to come out of the season without having to qualify for Europe. Anyone notice how poor our execution tends to be when we attack like in that game? I get the feeling that Mr Grant doesn't exactly know how to coach a team to play offensively, at least Mourinho's counterattacks were somewhat effective.

Nettles you talk crap sometimes mate. Chelsea's woeful finishing today was down to the players not the coach. Did Grant tell SWP to lean back when shooting? Of course he didn't you mug.

Dropping 2 points today was dissapointing but not THAT crucial. Its a bit of an over reaction to say that has cost us our season. Thats just stupid considering we still have half the season left. Man U and Arsenal WILL NOT go the rest of the season unbeaten so we have as much chance as winning the League as both of those teams.

Missing JT OR Ricci is bad enough, but when both of them are missing and we use Ben Haim, our defence is crap. Ben Haim must be on borrowed time I would think.

Lovely goal by us today. Fast counter attack, sharp passing, good teamwork resulting in a great team goal. Counter attacking football at its best. Nettles take note.

Aussie045.....if you haven't got anything smarter to say all over these forums than "????? sucks", then do us a favour and fu<k off. Little kids are not welcome here so go and play with your Lego or something. Idiot.

Pete just for the sake of arguing, are you enjoying Chelsea more now or when José took over?

I honestly don't care as long as they win. I mean yah aesthetically pleasing stuff is nice but doesn't make a difference unless you get the points and Grant's football isn't all that better. That game in fairness was great but it had a lot to do with Pompey upping the ante and going hard at Chelsea cos they felt they could've won.

and I enjoy football no matter how 'dour' it is cos it's still football but that's just me.

Zakov

Senior Squad
Its times like this is when i realize that SWP really needs some help with his shooting, he always appears unbalanced, could've got us the winner had he got more composure.....oh well, like i said, Utd drew against Spurs, so all is not lost yet....
The reason Grant's football is not getting better is because, we're trying to cope with the loss of our major players, no Terry, Drogba, Lamps, Essien......what do you expect us to do? Steam roll over opponents? I know we've got quality in our side, but its not our best team, so lets not judge yet shall we, we only look for results in this difficult period....

gawd, its about time the wankers show up, and they only show their faces here once in a while when we get a bad result, and a draw it seems, is a bad result......
aussie045, are you on piss, mate?

Pete just for the sake of arguing, are you enjoying Chelsea more now or when José took over?

Well Fili, whatever manager we've had has never made a lot of difference really. I'd enjoy Chelsea whoever was in charge.

Now if we are talking about how much the hysteria surrounding Chelsea has diminished since Jose left, then I guess that I am indeed enjoying the peace and quiet that has come about since Avram took over. The media still have their little digs at us, but things aint nowhere near as crazy as they were before. That is a positive thing for me right there.

If we talk about the football, then I guess it would be wise to bear in mind that Avram Grant has achieved EXACTLY the same results as Jose did in charge for the first 30 odd games. The same wins, draws and losses. Add to that the fact that both managers made it to the League Cup Final in their first season, and I think it can be stated truthfully that in fact, results wise there is no difference at all.

Has Chelsea's style of football changed since Avram took over? The answer to that is, only if you watch the team week in and week out will you notice the subtle changes being made. Its much too silly to expect Avram to have Chelsea performing like a well oiled machine this early into his management. He has had to contend with most of our biggest and best players being outfor most of the season so far. In that respect I think that he has done wonders to get the team playing at all well, and still going out there and getting the points.

Wait until the full squad is back then give them the rest of the season to sort it all out. I wouldn't expect to see any major difference in the football until at least next season.

Its thanks to the legacy of Jose that we are who we are at this moment in time. He laid the foundations of a very solid team ethic, that every manager of Chelsea from now 'till eternity will benefit from. Avram doesn't need to change a lot of what Jose did. He is wise enough and humble enough to know and admit that. I don't know what Avram has planned either so I'll find out about the same time as everyone else I guess.

As long as we keep moving in the right direction, which we are I might add, then I am enjoying Chelsea as much now as I have enjoyed Chelsea since I was 6 years old.

I have to agree with Nettles here too. I don't really care if the football played is breathtaking football or not. We already play our fair share of that, just as we also have games that are simply battles, and rare games where we look poor. Just the same as every club in the World then huh?

So, I dont know what people are waiting to see to be honest, and I really don't care too much about it either. Chelsea FC is for the Chelsea fans and as long as we are happy, why should we care if fans of other clubs don't like the way we play. That is one thing I will not lose any sleep over.

Nettles

Youth Team
The time to really judge a manager with a top quality team is when he plays other top quality teams. That's why I think we have to judge Grant by the results against Arsenal, ManU, Liverpool and CL teams. And he hasn't had that many games against them but the results haven't been good against them either. Most managers with a good squad can get the job done against smaller teams but the tactical and sub knowledge really shows in the bigger games. I wouldn't want a manager change if Avram can do the job and he's probably great as a off the pitch coach but I'm a little doubtful about how he'll hold up against bigger clubs.

Zakov

Senior Squad
i don't fink Avram's done too badly against the bigger clubs to be honest, its just that we were unlucky and also had some horrible refereeing that cost us the matches against Arsenal(unlucky) and Man Utd(bad referee).....
VS Utd - Mikel harshly gets sent off for a nothing challenge, b4 that, it was even stevens....
VS Arse - Terry gets injured after a challenge by Eboue(who's tackle was much worse than Mikel's in the Utd game) and we were without Carvalho, so Ben Haim came in, and we all knew what happened next.....

With Mourinho VS Liverpool, we were lucky to escape with a draw....
had a penalty we shouldn't have got, to be honest....and we were piss poor for the whole game....

hopes this clears things up, Nettles. Sometimes its not up to the managers how the matches to turn up.....there are other definite factors that could influence the outcome of the matches...

Well, you can't count the Man U game. Grant was 3 days in charge at that time, and the club was in turmoil. It shows how good we still were to only lose 2-0. As stated by Zakov, the ref did have a big say that day too.

Anyway Liverscum tomorrow. We have Ricardo back from suspension, Obi back from Africa and hopefully Frank will make his return too. Sheva and JT are still out.

Liverpool are missing Fernando Torres (hamstring), Andriy Voronin, Fabio Aurelio, Alvaro Arbeloa and Daniel Agger.

Lets hope we extend our unbeaten at home league record to 76 games, thereby keeping us well in the title race, and pushing 'pool even further down the League.

Hey Pete how are ya oldtimer :) long time no see but I should've known you were here hehe :amika: and still Fifa 2005??

I've just read that Chelsea will make a bid for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar this summer as a replacement for Drogba for 25M or smth.
Not that strange because he scored for us 21 times in 23 matches and last year he scored as many goals during the whole season! :| And he scored against Croatia for Holland this week.
He's a goalmachine no matter where he plays but I wish Chelsea goodluck in bidding for him cause the list grows: Manchester United, Juventus, Internazionale, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and now Roma and Chelsea may the best team win and pay lots and lots of millions to Ajax  because we won't let him go that easily :shades:
The bidding starts at 20M :alex:

Hiya Martijn, good to see ya man.

Don't think Drog will be leaving in the summer mate. Thats just the newspapers stirring the sh!t again. So I dontthink we will be chasing a forward player, but if we did "the Hunter" would be a great player to have. I think Man U or Liverpool need him more than we do though.

At the end of the day, if Chelsea want him then they will simply pay Ajax the most money, but I would think that the player himself probably knows where he would prefer to be, and that is where he will likely end up. 20 million quid seems a bit cheap for him though.

Not really. Van Nistelrooy cost 19 mil. Huntelaar looks a good prospect, and has a incredible record. But you must remember he is scoring in a league where Alfonso Alves scored 7 in a single game. Luque has already got 4 in the Eridivisie, and he couldn't get a goal for his life for Newcastle. 20mil would be enough for Huntelaar I'd think.

Filipower

yes but you have to consider that Ruud was bought a few years ago now, and that because of Abramovic, Ajax wouldn't settle for just £20mil from chelsea..
