I am not too fond of the signing as well to be honest but owen scores goals no matter where he plays jus like RVN. So thats good. and off the field, he seems to be modest, friendly and a class act. Hope everything turns out well for him.

You make it sound like the loss of Tevez is going to be the demise of the team... he was never that good. 19 goals in 63 games or 8 goals in 50 for argentina aint exactly anything to rave about.

He run... and was very good at it no one can argue his energy and effort but i think thats where it ends. You cant help love the Alan smiths, Parks, Tevez's of this world. He could of got away with it being a midfeilder but as a striker... theres a reason SAF dragged his feet and I doubt it was to do with the price.

Owen is a cheap super sub type replacement... a ballon d'or player who due to a series of misfortunate events ended up in the bargin basket. Hes worth a gamble it may pay off, it may not but at that price... why not. Either way we still have plenty of money to burn and unlike some other teams we can afford to take the risk.

As for Ronaldo... he will be missed. We have had players like him go before, players that were missed but look what always happens. We come back to winning form as we will this time. Infact I think the team will function better without him now as it did when RVN left. Worst case we will have a drought a season or two but i'd expect us to do well domestically and wouldnt be suprised if we went far in the champions league with the other English teams too. I still fancy our chances vs any of the top european teams

Tevez single handedly saved West Ham from relegation. He can score if you ask him to.

And don't forget that Tevez scored 14 goals in his first season, Berbatov got only 9. But you guys still consider Berbatov as a GOD and Tevez as a flop...

yeah after god knows how many games of not doing much. But its besides the point... he is a good player and he did save us a number of times and is one of the hardest working players we have second only to park, but...

The reason I said what I said was in responce to a comment basically saying losing Ronaldo and Tevez will be our downfall. Which is far from the truth. Tevez was never that prolific especially season past and over time we will function without ronaldo hopefully sooner rather then later.

And don't forget that Tevez scored 14 goals in his first season, Berbatov got only 9. But you guys still consider Berbatov as a GOD and Tevez as a flop...

Yeah he did us proud his first season, but the fact is we got berb for 30 million. Your not about to make the same 'mistake' on a player who may get goals and stastically has a record which is "ok". Berb also has benefits over tevez creating goals assists etc. He offers something different. Rooney can offer everything Tevez does and has a more consistent record.

and lets not forget SAF is rarely wrong when creating these new teams. He had is reason acting the way he did with tevez and tevez showed a side of himself which wasnt too flatering as of late.

Lets wait and see how we do preseason, that will be the test to see how the team gels. I suspect we will also buy more players since we saved so much with owen.

you know..there's no need to diss tevez. He gave it his all when he donned that united shirt and it was there to everyone to see. And there's no point comparing owen and tevez. Two different players. By the way, tevez's departure wont be that much of a blow to us. Rooney will step up im sure.

Owen could be the signing of the season, but he sure as hell wont be the worst since he was free. so its win win in my eyes.

Tevez would still be getting the props from the utd fans but he had to go run his mouth after we parted ways, picking a fight with the man that has given this club so much for the past 2 and some decades. so yeah, CT can go screw if you ask me.

Starting XI
Owen signing seems positive because bought from free agent(Save of money , we need to buy some more)and also when his destiny does not occur(Oh, if he does not have injury problem here then it is best for all). He may be used as substitute and he may prove good quality goals :) Hope to have rebirth of Owen's former play and his scoring ability.

And now we have two Owens who have injury prones :P

Maybe we can combine the working bits to make a single player "Michael Owen Hargreaves" (Y)

Sorry.

Nani is going to seek reassurances over his United future, apparently Fergie is willing to let him go if he's unhappy. Although this gem was brought to you by the ever reliable News Of The World - who also claim that Samuel Eto'o is angling for a move to us from Barca (and is even prepared to drop his wage demands, bless)

TEVEZ just cant stop whining for gods sake..
he should keep shut and not talk further
what an assclown.
over time he himself will be responsible for losing his respect amongst the OT faithful
he acts as if in two seasons he acclaimed a cantona status.
he was offered a contract but couldnt be patient...
and now he goes on to talk crap like this :

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5415487,00.html

Untenable

Tevez thoroughly enjoyed his first season after playing a major role in Sir Alex Ferguson's side, but felt his lack of first-team football last term meant his situation was no longer tenable.

"If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor," he told The People.

"They have to remember that at least as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available.

"[Leaving] came about because I could not stand my sporting situation at Manchester United any longer.

crossing the line ...pathetic..acting as if the guys and fergie in the dressing room would treat him to some Bondage and rape

Help?

He still talking about it. He is just bitter that he is not the main forward, if he doesn't want to fight for his place than he shouldn't be in the team.

I love the quote that he's going to shout in Fergie's face if he scores against us - there's really no reason to be bitter, squad rotation is part of the modern game.

That's why I think Owen will be a great asset to us, he knows the score and he knows how lucky he is to be at United. Tevez seems to have commited the cardinal error: Thinking he is bigger than the club - just ask Slave if that's the case.

Take on the boss like that and there's only one winner. It's unfortunate because we all adored Tevez for what he gave on the pitch - it leaves a sour taste in the mouth that he constantly feels the need to attack our club.

And so we move on. The boys are back at Carrington tomorrow to begin preseason training.

And it appears Kiko Macheda has booked himself an appointment with Sir Alex's hairdrier - he was photographed on a beach, smoking a cigarrette and larging it up. I suspect Fergie will have one of those "chats" that he specializes in to keep young players' feet on the ground.

ARE YOU CRAZY?

Eto'o is one of the best strikers and pure goalscorers in the world, we would be out of our minds insane to not want him in the team.

Rooney is a hero but let's be honest, he can't do it all by himself. Berbs is worthless, Owen might be a good backup but we can't count on him, neither Welbeck or Machida are ready to be everyday players in the Premiership. IMO we are still in desperate need of a proven striker. If Eto'o actually really wants to come to United, we need to roll out the red carpet for him.

I would feel REALLY good about the coming season with Eto'o as the front striker and Rooney playing slightly behind him.

Seriously, how could any United fan NOT want this to happen? Eto'o is such a talented an explosive player, it's exactly what we need.

If that is the case..find a place to put berbatov ....or rooney either of em will be a first team starter....and owen wont sit on the bench for too long once he is in form..
its so easy the way you casually said that rooney is a hero, berb is owrthless, owen backup...etc bla bla..think and then say...
we dont want to do another "tevez gets sad and whines" part 2
we are well upfront now...an injured owen gave 16 goals...to the toon..a fit one with the other quality players of united around, can give more.

we need an addition to the midfield to be honest..nani is not reliable...
so who can that man be?????
guys??ne ideas?
i cannot think of anyone other than lennon currently...cause ribery wants to join the glory bandwagon of real madrid..

I would rather risk having four strikers all in good form fighting for playing time than risk going into the season with only one legit scoring threat on the team.

I really don't see what the problem is. I'd want Rooney and Eto'o as the regular starters, and then rotate Owen and Berbs in as needed. We didn't spend any money on Owen, so it's not like we are wasting money by letting him sit on the bench...and as for Berbs...the hell with him, he was the biggest waste of money United have spent in as long as I can remember, and he should've been sold this summer anyway.

WE NEED GOAL SCORERS and that is exactly what Eto'o is. We spent what, 16 million on Valencia? So there should be over 60 million left from the Ronaldo sale, plenty to get Eto'o plus another winger.

Why else did we agree to sell Ronaldo, if not to use the massive bank he fetched us to bring in new players to help us win?

You seriously think we sold Ronaldo so that we could buy a bunch of players? And I'm not even gonna comment on the Berbatov bit. You're clueless.
