Its one of the first things I noticed and was worried since last season. Our defence is not the same since PEPE lost it. but once he comes back, hopefully that gets sorted out. It was nice to kick off the season with a win, even if it was a scrappy win.

Even at half time, I couldn't believe Kaka, Ronaldo, And Benzema were wearing the white shirt.. HALA MADRID!!

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long

I must admit that it's fun to watch the Galacticos playing, even if I question the legality of the means by which the players were acquired(unsettling them at their old clubs).

Pepe better get back soon cause your defenders are all hopeless.

Casillas was frozen on both goals......the shots weren't bullets so he didn't see them coming.....which means the defenders got in his line of sight and, hence, are to be blamed.

For Perez and Valdano, I say selling Robben and Sneijder (two quality players) and not bringing in Ribery may have all but sealed their fates if Pellegrini doesn't bring in the wins.

pellegrini has never use the wings in his 4-2-2-2, the 4 attacking players use to change the places, but he told in public want robben and sneijder to stay :D

Yeah he did but like you said, Florentino and Valdano do whatever they want which is what's best for them and not for the club.

The Lad is just speaking the truth and from his heart. If we don't win anything, it will be a disaster.... And NO!! the kings cup doesn't count.

Our weakest link will be our defense, That has to get sorted out very fast.

Hopefully that defense gets sorted out soon, or you guys will have to settle for the Europa League :D

Spanish giants Real Madrid have opted to keep Rafael van der Vaart after the Dutch midfielder was told by the club that his services were required for the new season, according to Sky Sports .

With the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, and Xabi Alonso at the Bernabeu, van der Vaart was told that he could leave the club, and he did not feature in any of the team's pre-season games.

But with the recent departure of Dutch duo Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder to new pastures, Los Blancos have managed to cut their squad down to 25 players.

Van der Vaart and his lawyer, Robert Geerlings, held a successful meeting with coach Manuel Pellegrini, technical director Jorge Valdano, and general director Jose Angel Sans, where the club asked Van der Vaart to remain with Madrid for the upcoming season.

Speaking to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Robert Geerlings said, "At the meeting, Rafael was urgently asked to stay at Real.

"The squad has been decreased to 25 players and that made [the club] decide that Rafa doesn't have to leave anymore. For us, it was surprising, and Rafael has decided to fight for his place in Madrid."

Van der Vaart was reported to have rejected a move to Besiktas earlier this month, and has also received two concrete offers from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

As a show of confidence, Real Madrid have given back the No. 23 shirt to its rightful owner. Van der Vaart will return to training with the squad on Tuesday.

"It's official, Rafael will stay with Real," concluded Geerlings.

Van der Vaart is capable of playing 'in-the-hole', a position assumed by Kaka at the moment, and will meet tough competition by Esteban Granero for a starting berth in the Madrid midfield.

Personally I think it's good that he is staying as he is one of my favourite players, and will be a great backup for attacking midfield or centre midfield.

1) Even if it's true, you don't say it. Because if you don't win anything by the end of the year, he pretty much has to admit that the season was a disaster. It puts unnecessary pressure on the team.
2) This implies that buying offensive superstars makes titles easy to win. I'm still not convinced that Madrid has the team chemistry or the defense to win any titles (except maybe La Liga, which Capello proved can be won without an ounce of team chemistry).

That being said, you're right about him speaking his mind. He shouldn't lie, I just think it might have been better left unsaid...

Anyways, I really hope Madrid are entertaining to watch this season. This international break is killing me! Every year!

The season is long.. so we will see what happens

With regards to this international break.. they gotta find a better way for this. Putting it so close to the beginning of the season really ruins the big buildup of the season
