What do you mean for confederation? Do you mean UEFA qualifications, CONMEBOL qualifications, etc?
If so, you are right, but you have to sum them with also the 6 rounds of the final South Africa round
Do you understand what I mean, friend?
By the way, of course we should insert all national teams!!!
Yep it should still work then.
Let me give an explanation, for reference, of each confederation's qualifying process for 2010:
UEFA:
Round 1
1 Group of 5 Teams + 8 Groups of 6 Teams.
9 Group Winners Qualify Directly for World Cup
Round 2
8 best 2nd placed teams from Round 1 go to playoffs (home & away) - 4 winners Qualify for World Cup {NB: 2nd placed team in Group 9 with only 5 teams, Norway, was lowest ranked team}
CONMEBOL:
League Round
All 10 members play each other twice (home & away)
Top 4 teams Qualify Directly for World Cup
5th placed team plays off with 4th placed team in CONCACAF Round 4
CONCACAF:
Round 1
22 lowest ranked members of CONCACAF have playoffs (home & away) against eachother
11 Winners advance to Round 2.
Round 2
11 Winners from Round 1 and top 13 teams who received a bye to this Round playoff (home & away). 12 Winners advance to first group stage - Round 3
Pot A: Mexico, US and Costa Rica (first seeds for Round 3)
Pot B: Honduras, Panama and Trinidad&Tobago (second seeds for Round 3) {NB - Panama lost its playoff tie to El Salvador, which became another 2nd seed}
Pot C: Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Guatemala, Canada and Guyana (not to be drawn with teams in Pots A or
Pot D: St. Vincent and Grenadines (received a bye, but would be drawn with a team in the other Pots) {NB: St. Vincent was drawn with Canada}
Round 3
Round 2 playoff winners are drawn into 3 Groups of 4 Teams:
Pot A are first seeds, Pot B are second seeds, other 12 teams are drawn anywhere.
Top 2 Teams from the 3 Groups advance to Round 4
Round 4
6 Teams play the last round of CONCACAF qualifying
Top 3 Teams Qualify Directly for World Cup
4th Placed Team plays off with 5th placed CONMEBOL Team
CAF:
Round 1
Initially 10 teams were meant to participate in a playoff series, but São Tomé and Príncipe and the Central African Republic, who drew eachother in this Round both withdrew. As a result, Swaziland and Seychelles (the highest ranked of the ten nations) were no longer required to play in this round, and the teams they were originally matched against, Somalia and Djibouti, were redrawn to play each other instead. So what happened was that only 6 teams played this round, with 3 teams advancing after playoffs.
Round 2
45 direct entrants + 3 Round 1 playoff winners = 48 Teams
48 Teams split into 12 Groups of 4 Teams
12 Group Winners and best 8 2nd placed Teams advance to Round 3
{NB: - 2nd placed teams from Groups 1, 3, 4 and 6 did not advance - South Africa also participated in this stage as qualification for 2010 African Cup of Nations - Ethiopia was suspended by FIFA and Eritrea withdrew during the course of this round}
Round 3
20 Teams from Round 2 split into 5 Groups of 4 Teams
Group Winners Qualify Directly for World Cup
AFC:
Round 1
Top 5 teams: Australia, Iran, Japan, Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia received bye to Round 3
The remaining 38 teams playoff against each other with each higher 19 team being paried against a lower 19 team
11 Highest ranked teams advance to Round 3; 8 Lowest ranked winning teams playoff against eachother as Round 2 - 4 Winners then advance to Round 3
{NB: Bhutan and Guam both withdrew before Round 1 matches; so their opponents, Kuwait and Indonesia, advanced to Round 3 and Round 2 respectively}
Round 3
Top 5 teams + 15 playoff winners = 20 Teams split into 5 Groups of 4 Teams
Top 2 Teams from each Group advance to Round 4
Round 4
10 Teams = 2 Groups of 5 Teams
Top 2 Teams Qualify Directly for World Cup
3rd placed Teams advance to Round 5
Round 5
Playoff between 3rd place teams from Round 4. Winner to play OFC Champion
OFC:
OFC used the South Pacific Games football tournament as preliminary round for qualification.
10 teams participated including Tuvalu, which is an OFC member, but not a full FIFA member. PNG also wanted to paticipate, but didn't register in time.
The 10 Teams were split into 2 groups of 5, with the Top 2 from each group advancing to the Semi-Finals of the tournament. The winners of the semis qualified for the OFC Nations Cup with the losers playing the bronze medal match and the winner of that match also qualifying for the OFC Nations Cup.
The 3 medalists from the South Pacific Games met New Zealand in the OFC Nations Cup. New Zealand won the group (home & away) to qualify for the AFC/OFC playoff.
So that hopefully explains everything!!!!
