2010 FIFA World Cup Final: Netherlands v. Spain [P/R]

Futbol justice has been made (Y)

After all this years and all the battles, and all the futbol that has been played.

Spain was owed this World Cup. Those boys earned it tonight, and you could see how they were united till the end.

Spain was way overdue a World Cup, for the talent and futbol treat they brought to all the world over their history.

Justice was very made. They play dirty holland out of their socks at their own game (H)

Think they might be referring to how the Dutch made some sort of rugby style corridor for the Spain players and applauded them on their way back on the pitch after collecting the trophy.

But I must recognize, this is the only way to stop Spain current play, and if the referee let you do it...

8 goals in 7 matches. I'm pretty sure they aren't as unstoppable as you think.

Ugh god, should have known better than read the last few pages. Spanish contingent retarded as ever.
To be fair, I would expect a retarded contingent from whichever world champion country.

One thing that I'm starting to wonder:

van der Wiel got a strange yellow card. The ref played advantage on the foul, although Villa continued to roll around on the ground. When Spain lost possession, the ref showed VdW a yellow card even though he played advantage and didn't think the foul was bad enough to stop play. I think he even awarded a free kick for Spain.

How is that any different than the Puyol foul on Robben? Ref played advantage for Robben, Dutch lost possession, and then... no card, no stoppage, nothing. Makes you wonder. Now, I don't know if you can award a red in good conscience, but a free kick and a yellow? Yeah, probably.

Webb showed advantage on Robben? I didn't catch that. I'll have to go back and investigate.

How about that missed corner at the end though? Strangest call ever?

That was a strange one, its like 10 seconds later he decides oh Villa is still on the ground nvm let's just give out another yellow.

I kinda wish that De Jong kick was on Iniesta instead.

Nah, Spain played on for a few seconds then realising their only front man was lying the floor they put the ball out. That's when the Dutch player got carded.

Thought Webb wasn't great yesterday but easily above average for the World Cup standard.

Until the extra time, I thought Webb had an excellent match for the most part, all the bookings were deserved. I'm happy for Spain, but also a bit gutted for Holland, with all the controversy, it's a tough loss to take.

Also, I just don't want to believe that Iniesta really dived, but it seems like he probably did, although, there was a foul there too, he wouldn't go down when he has a chance to be one on one with the keeper if he stays up. It probably was a small pull back, which doesn't really make you fall, but slows you down, and he decided to show the ref that there was something there. Not a fan of that sort of behaviour, but sadly, that's modern football for you. Also, a nice gesture with the shirt.

I won't go into over-analyzing the match, and so I will just say, congratulations to both teams, great achievement on both parts! :)

Ironic that Spain wins the Fair Play award when they were flopping to the ground throughout the whole tournament while waving imaginary cards.

Finally Spain took their cup win and what a way to win this !!
They started the tournament 0-1 loss to Switzerland, and nobody were thinking that Spain could win this, and here they are !!!

Congrats to Spain from Estonia !!!

I’m confused here. If I’m not mixing up, Heitinga caught Villa, who stayed rolling on the ground, and Spain kicked the ball out. Heitinga got carded, and the match followed with a throw in for the Dutch, who kicked the ball far away to give it back to Spain. Then, the Spanish players complained (it looked like they wanted the ball returned closer to the throw in spot).

Van der Wiel got carded for a foul on Iniesta, and when it happened Torres already had replaced Villa.

:clapwap: There are other teams in the tournament no?

Spain was the only team in the tournament who tried to play offensive instead of tripping the adversary and I think they took the least bookings because of that.
