Drogba won't be playing at CB. It's a stupid idea. He's good in the air and he's strong, sure, but he's not a CB.

That's only for a worst case scenario, in which Terry, Alex, Iva, Essien are all out, not impossible with the way our players are getting injured recently. Don't tell me you'd prefer Paulo at CB with Bruma, that'd be a nightmare.

Nevertheless, a good response after going down early against Zilina.
I was surprised with a few of the players selected, I expected youngsters but certainly not from the start.

McEachran was neat and tidy, Van Aanholt was impressive going forward, but Kakuta disappointed tbh. Personally glad with Bruma's performance, although not as any near commanding as Alex/Iva he did put in a good shift. Certainly will help his confidence. Ramires played well, great shot in the 2nd half, he is Brazilian after all. Drog still looked short of his usual self but he's getting closer. Great free-kick that was well saved onto the post.

5 out of 5 in the Champions League, not too bad.

I definitely would prefer Paulo at CB. He's a defender and he's played there before. Would rather Mikel, but still.

Watched only a bit, heared Josh had a good game, well done to him.

You'd better behave yourself this time!
you guys really suck off late
drogba has dipped after malaria...

and most of the glory hunters here in asia blame it all on the departure of ray wilkins lol

Nah, its simply about injuries and suspensions.

Ray might be a legend to most of the fans, but most of our players have only been working with him at most for a couple of years. They would all probably be sorry to see him go, but to them he was another assistant coach, even if he was a nice guy to boot.

They might be thoughtful of his mode of departure perhaps, but surely if that was the case they would all have been playing like Gods lately in an effort to prove themselves worthy.

Lampard. Terry. Alex. Essien. If any club in the World were short of four players of their calibre, they too would be struggling whoever the subs might be.

Until all our players return to full fitness and are available to play, we have no reason but to expect to see us struggle our way through this.

The player's performances will improve as they play more matches together too, and in the long run should be beneficial for all concerned. The players are good enough I believe.

I agree with pretty much all of that.

To be fair I have never met a Chelsea fan who would critisize Roman for anything. He has earned the right to do whatever he pleases with the club and I think that the majority of fans agree with that.

Find me one Chelsea fan who thinks Roman is an arsehole, and I'll show you a newbie glory hunter who understands nothing.

The media are still generally hostile towards Chelsea, and still look to exploit or even create for themselves a situation that has the potential to de-stabilise the club.

Like we lose a couple of games and we're in crisis??? Hysterical media over reaction as usual.

According to the aforementioned media this morning, Ray Wilkins was sacked by Chelsea, because after he had a row with Roman during the summer, he was warned as to his future behaviour. Two weeks before he was sacked he had another row. This time it was with Ron Gourlay of all people.

We'll see.

hah, there are plenty of the "new blue" variety here in the States ... growing up in Zambia, two of my best mates were truer blue Chelsea fans, and (for their birthdays) I used to get them jerseys with Zola or Desailly or Jimbo on the back ... so it's always hilarious to talk to the new blues who claim to have loved Chelsea from birth, and then see them squirm and nod cluelessly when I bring up names from late 90s / early 00s (H)

having been there to see Chelsea transition from a hopeful team to a European powerhouse, I too can appreciate what Abramovich has done for the club ... but no matter what the man's actions, these murmurs about interferences from the board aren't right for the club ... after the Shevchenko fiasco, I would have thought the lessons would have been learnt ... for the greater good of the club, surely the official supporters clubs asking the board and the owner questions of concern (not of confrontation or of exasperation) is the right approach to pursue?

Absolutely. It's important that we have the opportunity to voice our valid concerns to the club. We have always had that under Roman and long may it continue.

Actually, if Chelsea were a little more upfront about affairs at the club, then perhaps some fans would be able to ignore the media whispers and rumours that persistantly circulate. As it is, I personally ignore everything that does not come directly from the club. I would rather wait to hear the facts than to speculate over what "might" be happening.

I am concerned with recently unfolding events though. First it was the Wilkins affair and now we hear that Arnesen is out in the summer.

This doesn't surprise me TBH. Roman hasn't been happy with the way Frank has run the Academy and scouting network for a while now, but what we don't know is if it was Roman's decision or Gourlay's or Arnesen's. Time will tell.

I don't have a clue what's going on behind the scenes at Chelsea, but it's obvious that something IS going on. Cost cutting or personal vendetta's? All I know is that whatever is happening, the timing of it all is thoughtless at the very least.

And yes, we as fans do deserve consideration, and we also deserve explanations too. I'll look forward to hearing them.

1-1 against Newcastle. Poor mistake at the back allowed Newcastle an early lead.

We need Lampsy and/or JT back quick. I just think either one of them will be able to push the lads or inspire them back to winning ways.

Somehow despite dominating these teams(except Sunderland) we lack the drive and cutting edge to beat them. JT's defensive commitment and passing from the back(which is very underrated) and Lamps' passing and late runs into the box are sorely missed.

Essien back next game should be a big boost though.

Like pete above, haven't got a clue what's behind the scenes but on the pitch we haven't been ourselves, so you'd have to think the events that's happened for the last month/weeks have had an effect on the team, albeit little. Even if we were without Terry, Alex, Lampard and Essien for the most part, we should still be capable of better than what we achieved in the last 5 games.

Help?

I think you are overreacting a bit. Like Mourinho said Carlo is not a magician, you take out Terry, Lampard, Essien and a half-fit Drogba and Chelsea will struggle. A trio of Malouda, Essien and Ramires is just not that frightening.

Zakov

Senior Squad
If there's a time to overreact this is it. At one stage we were 5 points clear at the top, and we were only missing Lamps at the time.
Its not just about missing players, its the way we start games that bothers me. We used to start going at teams with pace from the word go.

Now its until the 2nd half or usually until we go behind and only then we up our game to the next gear. Zhirkov, Mikel and Ramires aren't terrible players by any means. Although I have to say Ramires is struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premiership.

I'd rather Carlo give Bruma a chance than risk JT in the next match, same with Lamps. McEachran is a good alternative, albeit he's still nowhere near the quality of SFL.

I don't think Zhirkov is suited to playing the left center midfielder role, he's best at WB/LW, he tore a lot of teams apart from that position, especially against Villa and Pompey last season. The problem is he has Malouda(our top scorer in the EPL) competing against him in that position, but Malouda has also been struggling for form recently.

Zhirkov is a great utility player. Very good buy. He can play LB, LW, CM whenever needed. Good to have players like him as backup.

1-1 against Everton, yet again.

By the looks of things, we aren't improving at all. Some of the players really deserve a kick in the backside. Kalou frustrated me the most, lost his legs after 60 minutes, slow reaction and didn't look interested at all. Carlo should drop him for the next game certainly, give Sturridge a chance.

I've got no idea why Bosingwa was subbed, fair if it was an injury problem but otherwise bad decision, because most of Everton's attacks came from their left wing and Boss coped pretty well in the 1st half.

Sturridge came on a bit too late, I've got no clue why Anelka was subbed also, he looked very fired up and was willing to track back on Baines and Pieenar. On came Ramires who still isn't up to standard yet.

After Beckford scored, we looked even worse. Everton definitely deserved a point although we could've had a penalty after Coleman CLEARLY hacked Cole from behind when the goal was open for him.

At this rate, things aren't looking too good. The body language of the players are most worrying, they really do look short of confidence and the level of intensity just wasn't there.

Gotta agree with all of that Zak. Very dissapointing yet again. Just have to keep patient and keep the faith.

It'll make winning the League that much sweeter this season. (Y)

I don't wanna lose this match, but with Spurs, ManU an Arse coming up and our injury-list, why aren't more youngsters starting this match? We're qualified top of the group already, sand this season was supposed to be one where we use our youngsters, not one where we overwork our limited first-teamers. Paulo over Aanholt at LB? Ridiculous.

Zakov

Senior Squad
Lost again, what terrible shape we are in. Spurs are probably licking their lips with us being in this sort of state prior to the derby.

Ramires woeful, can't pass, can't keep possession. Ferreira at left-back from the start is another mystery, I thought Van Aanholt did well enough last match to keep his place, especially in this so-called dead rubber. Kalou didn't offer anything in attack, except for overdribbling and taking shots on from a poor position.

EDIT: oh yeah, Bosingwa also sufferred an injury, and that was the only reason Van Aanholt came on. I can't stomache the thought of Bale vs Ferreira this weekend. What the hell was Carlo thinking?
