Cell Phones

Spent a lot of my teens wishing I had a higher-end phone, so I figured I should go there at least once.

I picked up an LG Quantum earlier this summer. TBH I would have preferred an Android phone, but AT&T doesn't have too many options with QWERTY keyboards, and the only android one that did felt super chintzy while the Quantum is notably sturdy in it's design. Anyway, Win Phone 7 is doing some interesting things and a lot of the areas it's lacking will be addressed with the soon-to-be-released Mango update, so I'm generally happy with my purchase.

AT&T always carries the ****tiest Android phones. On top of that, they put a lot of restrictions on them, which defeats the purpose of an open source phone. It's obvious their love-child cash cow is the iPhone, so they're not going to do much for Android. It'll be a shame if and when the takeover happens.

16 days my rebate with Sprint goes up to $150, so I think I'm going to get a Google Nexus S for free, or close to free. And I can move to unlimited data for only a few extra bucks a month than what I'm paying now. Kind of excited.

I guess I should look into it. I'd prefer a physical keyboard, but I'm not sure I'd sacrifice much for it, but then again battery life is probably like my top concern.

Get a decent Android keyboard like swiftkey or swype and you don't need physical. Swype holds the world record for mobile phone I'm fairly sure. And phones with physical keyboards never fit in pockets as will.

Nexus S is a good phone. Basically a Galaxy S without Samsung bloatware, without an sd card slot, but with NFC chip.

Swype is awesome, but I still prefer the physical keyboard unless it's a short message. I won't even consider a phone if it doesn't have a slide-out keyboard.

I had an N900, and it was great. I as pretty quick on the physical keyboard. But my last two phones have been a Galaxy S, and Galaxy S II, and I have to say I haven't really missed the physical keyboard at all. I thought I would, but I haven't.

And the SGS and SGSII are sooo slim and light. Why ruin them by making them twice as fat with a physical keyboard!?

I wouldn't want like a Blackberry type keyboard, but rather one that slides into the phone when it's not in use. So fitting in a pocket wouldn't be an issue with one of those.

Honestly the Android phones don't seem that bulky with the slide out keyboard. The phone I have fits perfectly in my pocket, and although it's a little heavier than others, it really isn't something that is a big deal to me. It's just a matter of personal preference in the end, though.

My brother has a HTC, which has a touchscreen, as well as a slide-in qwerty. He's been real happy with it. Nokia C6 is also one of those.

Screen seems a little small though. I want a big ass screen to watch pirated streams of big sporting events on the go.

SGSII or HTC Sensation. Stuff a physical keyboard.

Desire Z had keyboard doesn't it? It's decent but last gen.

There will be an sgsii in the USA with physical keyboard. Honestly, after going to such a thin light phone, I could never go back to a big fat physical keyboard. It makes phones roughly twice as thick. A few mm might not sound much, but in the pocket you notice it. And the weight of the sgsii is awesome too.

Not sure how xperia mini pro could be considered in the same company as some of these phones. It has a 600mhz single core processor, 240 x 320 res screen, bugger all memory, and weighs more than the sgsii. It's early last gen, or really the end if the generation before that.

Weight is under rated and often over looked. You notice a phone in your pocket much less if it's lighter. Once you go light you don't go back.

Sensation is out of my price range, and I'm not sure SGSII has made it to the states (and it will be out of my price range anyway). Might be able to afford HTC Evo.
