Vermaelen and Koscielny are great pair, and one of them in CB with Mertesacker should be good combination, as Pizzaro14 said. With Mertesacker's height and Koscielny or Veramelen speed our defence should not look like Swiss cheese. And with Santos on LB we have really good defence.

Finally some positive things in our club! Now just to apply this on the pitch...

Honestly I would love to see Juan Vargas LB/LM in a Arsenal shirt he could really help you in the left side. starting with the defense.

Looks like Arteta for 10m is close to being down, with Mikel forcing the issue. Steal, and I'm pretty disappointed that Chelsea aren't pouncing on him, despite his age. He'd make a good player for the next 2-3 seasons at least.

Arteta and Yossi for Cesc and Nasri isn't that bad of a trade-off. The latter two are obviously better, but considering that you might still wind up with nothing, you can't complain. Yossi and Arteta are excellent players, and will serve for the next 2 years, at least.

For me, benayoun and arteta is unacceptable. Almost a joke. Not one signing for more than 10 M. How could they not get Mvila, i thought they bid 25 or 28. And also thought they made an offer for dempsey, for me more dangerous player than this two, can get to goal position easier. Mvila, Hazard, Martin, Malouda, Dempsey, Adam Johnson, Zarate. And ended up with BENAYOUN and Arteta.
With almost 100M to spend, they spent like 30.
For me unbelievable.

Arteta is a very good player, very underrated, just watch his matches.

Yes i also think that Arteta is a good player. If the signings would have been Arteta and Mvila i would ve been happy. What i dont like is lack of a major signing. I think it might happen on january, but i dont know why they didnt get someone now. And without thinking of a major signing, Malouda, Fellaini, Dempsey, i think would ve been better than Yossi.

Not as good as people make him out to be? He's not Cesc, but he's definitely one of the best playmakers in the Prem. He can pay behind the strikers as well from deep, and has enough defensive awareness to help out when he does play a deeper role. Has an excellent eye for a pass and a good range, he's one of the best passers in the league.

Injury-proneness is true though, but I disagree with him not being a great player, he's excellent.

Dempsey isn't better than Yossi, and none of those players even play the same position. Yossi was brought in to play behind the striker or on either wing, basically, a stop-gag for Nasri, and he'll do a decent job on the cheap.

Arsenal should've done better in the market, but they are adamant about paying over the odds, and have got 2 good players that they need on the cheap. It's not enough, but as a temporary solution it's pretty good.

he just striked me as being really inconsistent, I've seen him either do great or be a ghost on the pitch. also, add the pressure that comes with playing for Arsenal especially this season, big shoes to fill.

I know that none of the players i listed play in the same position. But Arsenal has players that can play in different positions, behind the striker right know they were playnig Rosicky, sometimes Arshavin leaves the wing to play there too. I want improvement for the team, Arteta is. But FOR ME (i point that out), Benayoun is not a big improvement over Rosicky, and on the wing position forget it. I wanted a signing that would lift the team up, on quality and on bid amount, who had to start the team because of his quality. When i see Yossi, i dont think of a player that HAS to start arsenal team. And the midfield was very weak, neither Ramsey or Rosicky are first team players in my oppinion, and frimpong is too young. Wilshere is injured, Arteta is injury prone, so thats a problem. You see something doesnt add up. I would prefer to play arteta behind the striker, and get a big signing in the midfield. But well, we'll see what happens, i always have faith in the team, i just was expecting something more.

Arteta will most likely play in the pivot with Yossi behind because that makes sense and it's a pretty good midfield, it's worse than your midfield last year, but it's better than what you had yesterday.

You want massive improvements, I get it, but you're not getting them, deal.

@theo: We'll have to wait and see, but he's been a major player for Everton for the last few years, and I think the step up has been a long time coming.

Arteta would be equal to success, I don't why we even discuss this point. He is a player for the team, he plays very simple but damn effective. Btw, those kids need a leader in midfield and he's the exact guy to do that.

That's what scares me.

Solid ending to the window but still a poor window overall in some respects. We probably replaced Clichy adequately and made an addition to CB that the jury is still out on. On the other hand Cesc and Nasri were not replaced by players of similar qualities but I never did expect that anyway. Also I am disappointed we didn't get the CM/DM signing I had hoped for...still going to support the team and that is really all that matters.

In other news, Bendtner rejected moves to Madrid, Inter, Milan, Barcelona, City and 1970s Ajax to join Sunderland on loan.
