3-4-3, position game, youth players development... football and Holland owe a lot of to genius. Deserves a second chance as Netherlands manager

He's not really respected in Holland because he had such a mechanical style (still does). It could work with the guys he brought up at Ajax because they owed him a lot, but these new players won't get on well with his personality I think.

he normally excludes few big stars, I'm wondering who's first.

And the team that got me in love with football.

He's a great coach but when the players were still young (like in 1995), he could still shape and impose his will on them. But those same players failed him and his playing style in 2002. Once he's faced with players that already established their name and fame, things start going wrong. Rememberering for example Riquelme at your Barca. Besides that I also think he's a coach that has to work with players on a daily basis, mold them and make them better since he has such a strong believe in his own very particular philopsophy. Therefore he's much better equipped as a club coach than as a NT coach.

Riquelme was a special case. Van Gaal didn't wanted him, it was a Gaspart sign, he doesn't fit in Van Gaal's tactics, Riquelme is a classic 10 and Van Gaal plays position game. Also had to compete with Luis Enrique (Barça's hero) for a spot in the left side (not Riquelme's position).

Rivaldo is a better example maybe, there wasn't any problem with him until he won Ballon d'or and then doesn't wanted to play as winger anymore.

Uh.... yeah it will. Think, bro. van Gaal likes wingers and a spearhead forward. That's 3 positions he won't play. He plays with 2 holders (3 at Ajax although I think he only had 3 defenders technically), so that's 2 more positions he won't play. And he's not as good as and also older than Sneijder. So poof, no more Raffie. His attitude is **** too.

Squad will look something like

Van Persie/Huntelaar
Afellay-Sneijder-Robben
Strootman-De Jong
Willems-Mathijsen-Heitinga-van der Weil
Stekelenberg

No way, not van Gaal. He at least needs pace on the wings, and Sneijder isn't the slowest guy around, but he's no Robben or Afellay. He's always gone for speed over other qualities, for example Finidi George and to a different extent, Marc Overmars (although I do think he developed other parts of his game as an older player which is rare). At Bayern it was always Ribery and Robben, and definitely never the slow Kroos.

apart from Wes being better than Raffie (which is false for a possession system), this is why I reserved the aforementioned right ... however, why prematurely pass judgment before we see his plans?

you don't say? but I went with my reply coz your point seemed quite inane otherwise ...

I was saying how this isn't going to change much. His system pretty much requires the players who have been playing. No other decent wingers, no other left footed CB, no other decent holding mids, etc.

but that's the whole point of van Gaal, though: finding youthful solutions that no one else thought were really there ...

I guess... I think those options are severely limited with the National Team though. He's not at a downtrodden Ajax, Barca, or Bayern with academies brimming with talent. There are players who are expected to play, and if they don't that Dutch team will get destroyed by internal fighting like it always does.
