Defoe (Tottenham) -> Toronto FC - Around $10m
Bradley (Roma) -> Toronto FC - $10m

Both are getting HUGE contracts. Defoe apparently six figures a week.

Isn't there a salary cap?

Designated players are exempt from the salary cap, but Bradley isn't confirmed (unless I've missed something in the last couple if hours), though Defoe is.

Yeah, though DPs are rarely paid much more than journeyman players and European clubs (except a few rarities such as the boys at LA and Red Bulls). Miller is our only DP and he makes only around 20k per week. I dont know what Defoe was earning at Tottenham, but it cant have been far shy of six figures? I dont know how tax rules stack up. Anyway, for Toronto (the worst team in the MLS, btw) to be able to attract quality players from Europe who, crucially, are not ancient and phasing themselves towards retirement, is really pretty impressive and a huge statement from the coach. Two players DO NOT make a top team in the MLS, however, you need a quality roster of draftees and domestics.

Other than that dumpster fire in LA.

We've jettisoned a lot big the dead weight and actually, the three DP signings (provided Bradley happens) would address the three biggest holes in our starting 11. A midfield anchor a playmaker and a scorer. We have serviceable MLS players on the wings and De Rosario is also back as a creative offensive player. Montreal made the playoffs last season with the same defensive record as us. The difference were Di Vaio's 20 goals. That's what we've never really had. Anyway, these are heady times for TFC support after so many years of front office ineptitude and on-field disasters.

A midfield anchor :mad:

He's a box to box! I HATE when he plays the holding role. Anyway, I do not want him to go to Toronto and the least your shitty fucking city could do is have Rob Ford greet him at the airport.

Well, I should clarify that he wouldn't be used in a holding role, per se, as Nelsen's formation plays with a flat 4. But if he's paired with Osorio, he'd be the more defensive of the pairing. If we figure out a way to keep Laba, then he'd have more freedom to get forward. I used the "anchor" term a bit erroneously. I meant "midfield boss/fulcrum/stabilizer/beast". So anchor in the sense of the guy who brings stability, not the guy playing the destroyer role.

Sebastian Rode to Bayern on a Bosman this summer. Should probably post "Rode to Schalke/Leverkusen/Dortmund/Wolfsburg/Stuttgart on loan" in the rumors thread. Curious transfer. It was curious 18 months ago before we had Martinez and Thiago when this was first rumored.

I don't get Rode. He's a good player, but he won't push out Schweini, Martinez, Kroos or Thiago. He definitely needs to move to one of the clubs you mentioned, probably Schalke would be best, I think. I would say Leverkusen but they have Kremer on-loan at Gladbach and I don't remember if it finalised this season or next. Hope Rode doesn't get buried at Bayern, I really like him and was hoping someone else would nab him.

Oh, he probably will.
